Does Norton Internet Security 2005 produce system instability?
peterh replied to packman's topic in Security
Norton is a good piece of software but you need to understand how it works to get the best out of it. As with any new program, you need to make sure you have enough resources to run it, that you are not running other AV/Firewalls at the same time. When you set it up you need to run all your Inet software so that it can detect and configure all your network software. For firewalls, its best to deny all to start off with and allow software afterwards. I have found it does slighly slow down boot up times and internet access a bit - I have switched to Zone Alarm (at its newer than NIS 2002 I was using earlier). -

Lsass.exe is the 'Net Logon' process, a vital part of authenticating with windows. Sasser can infect this process and cause instant reboots. Installing the MS04-11 update and the sasser removal tool will get rid of it. http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.mspx I am not sure which antispyware programs work on Windows Servers but best protection is to make sure all the latest security patches are installed. Running SUS in a commercial environment will ensire all desktops are regularly updated: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/sus/default.mspx

Try www.driverguide.com. I found 114 entries for Savage S3 cards there!

You may have to ReScan drives in Disk Management and possibly reimport it to get the drive to reappear.

Bin NT4 and go for Win 2000 and NT4 does not support Plug and Play. You have to install the driver in Network control panel before its recognised!
-
You just need to set all the relevant services to 'Automatic' and use the Shutdown -r command to shutdown and reboot the server.

Timeserv is ok but overkill, but use the Net Time command in login script which is the method we use. -
What model of Sony is your drive. There are problems with XP with some models of drive esp. the DDU 1621.. (see thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread29240-1.html)

I run HL2 on a older Radeon 9000 AGP card which is ok, not fast but it is playable. BTW, HL2 is an excellent game, I am currently half way through... For speed a Radeon 9500 or better would be perfect for games like HL2. I am thinking of upgrading my card sometime this year.

slawson: You don`t mention what graphics card you have. A recent AGP card is needed to run HL2 and preferably a broadband internet connection (to keep costs down).

Any sucess with 925X chipset motherboards and WinNTSP6?
peterh replied to Albano's topic in Hardware
Have you actually tried installing it yet? Usually NT4 does not install any additional motherboard software anyway. The main things to worry about are the graphics card and network card, if neither work then install a ATI Rage IIc and an Intel Pro 100 card would work just fine and disable the onboard stuff. -
No I don`t think that is possible, the only alternative is to use a different username depending on which OS you are using or to turn off roaming profiles...

What do mean by 'cracked the game'?

I think the problem is due to disk drivers. Originally, your old system would use SATA drivers to boot up, now it will be using IDE drivers instead. Since when you boot up, it will be using your SATA driver to boot up, since there is no HD on the SATA connection, it will fail! See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324103

Nope, you other systems NEED to know your IP to able to exchange data over the data. Its like sending letters to someone and not supplying a return address and expecting an answer! the only way to hide a public IP address is to use NAT (Network Address Translation) using ADSL so you get a private IP address but your router gets a public IP which is still visible.

You need to buy upgrade version from your MS supplier. For example, see http://www.tekgia.com/sbs2003editions.htm for prices etc.

Try enabling the 256 colour mode on the compatibility tab.

Some details about your PC hardware and OS would help...? Up[censored] gfx card drivers can help.
