Run DXDIAG to test your graphics card, make sure DirectDraw and Direct3D are enabled. Also set hardware performance to maximum in the Advanced properties of the Display control panel. Either reinstall the graphic card drivers or reinstall DirectX 9 to fix dll problems.

Reboot press F8 and select either Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration then remove the drivers. You need to use lower spec VGA card eg S3, SIS, Intel or ATI Rage type cards.

Should I use Windows XP Pro 64-bit?
peterh replied to longbow007's topic in Everything New Technology
I would use a dial boot system like Jmmijo has so if any apps do not like the 64 bit system you can switch to the 32 bit XP system. Personally, there is not advantage of using 64 bit systems on desktops anyway. If you have more than 4GB or RAM or using some memory hungry apps then use 64 bit OS otherwise stick to standard 32 bit XP. -
The sidewinder can be used with Windows XP by installing the MS Sidewinder (auto-detect) in the Game Controllers control panel. Other features will not be available though.

You haven't used any compression tools on the USB stick havew you? Windows XP does not like old compression tools and cannot read them, try turning that off first.

What type of modem do you have? USB or Ethernet router? Ethernet routers are much better for multiple PCs (you can get them cheap). If using USB then you need to use XP's Internet Connection Sharing feature see your ISP's web site FAQ on how to do this.

First you cannot create images of Dynamic disks eg Mirrored, Striped disks and possibly some RAID setups eg Sata. As for granting access on the Command prompt you can use the CACLS command to change NTFS permissions. To change Share permissions try the SUBINACL command.

Check with MS's Piracy site and double check that your copy is not pirated then call up MS again and tell them what you have checked then get them to re-activate your PC. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/uk/default.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx

Have you done a search for the files e.g. JPG, GIF, DOC, DBX files to see if they are still there? Are the profiles missing from c:\Documents and Settings? I suggest getting a good backup program and schedule it to avoid problems like this because they are bound to happen. I have been using Norton Utilities 2002 for years with no problems. What kind of features are you looking for? Undelete, disk defrag, optimisation?

Win32 sounds like some thing some spyware software has installed. Scan your PC for spyware to remove it.

There is no such thing a Win32, you may be experiencing problems due to spyware installed. Get your PC scanned with some Antispyware eg Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en

New mailbox not created after running dsadd user.
peterh replied to SuperChicken's topic in Networking
You probably need to specify more than just the email address such as: - Exchange mailbox location (incl. Server name, mailbox group, mailbox store) - Exchange alias I am not sure that dsadd supports Exchange attributes so, using LDIFDE may be better for AD and Exchange accounts. -
want to install 2 10gb hard drives in a pc...1 for the os and the other for th
peterh replied to samsnatch's topic in Hardware
Yes it is possible. You can add a 2nd hard drive as a slave to the first harddisk, create a new partition e.g. D: drive and create a Program Files folder. Now, when you install an application and it asks for destination, just specify d:\Program files. Note, not all programs will install on other drives, some will install on C: anyway. -
Its probably a hardware or driver issue that prevents is from recovering properly from Hibernation. Check the Event logs for possible sources of the problem. I would update BIOS and motherboard drivers for starters...

Most likely bad RAM or a sligh timing difference between them. You were correct to place the newer RAM in Slot A as it would use that first rather than the smaller RAM module.

Sounds like a problem with the CD, not the computer. Try cleaning the CD, remove any dirt finger marks, scratches etc so that the computer can read it properly. See http://www.ehow.com/how_2499_clean-cds.html

Windows 2000 16-bit Subsystem (NTVDM.EXE) Broken?!
peterh replied to Vaelor's topic in Everything New Technology
Make sure that config.nt and autoexec.nt exist in your System32 folder and that they are readable as text files. There may be some copies of the originals in the Repair folder. -
Windows usually has a simple fax component which you can install via Add/Remove Programs, Add Windows Components or via the Printers and Fax control panel.

Sounds like an over heating problem, the PC is protecting itself by switching itself off and thus causing random reboots. Get some motherboard utilities or something like SiSoft Sandra to tell you the temp for CPU/System for your PC, then get some more fans etc to cool it more.

Check Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types and check entries for HTM, HTML, URL etc For example the open action for URLs is: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l and for HTM, HTML it should open 'Internet Explorer' or Firefox or whatever.

i suggest uninstalling Trend Micro Scan tools all together as it may be preventing OWA pages from loading.

Do you get any video during the POST stage? Do you get any video when Windows loads up? What error messages do you get? What video card do you have? Is it built in? AGP or PCI?

Could be some sort of resource conflict than a drive problem. What does it say in the Device Manager? Is there any resource conflicts? What about motherboard drivers, have you updated those? Try removing all sounds drivers and reboot, and let Windows auto detect the card.
