    Suse basic install question

Welp it is now 5 AMish but I am proud to report I am posting this from an up and running SuSE box. It is running a tad slow but I have it on a very old box so that was expected. So far so good I must say. After burning the ISO image properly things were a breeze and the YaST setup was pretty easy to follow. All in All the worst part of the whole thing was waiting for the download to complete from the FTP server. But 1.5 hours for well over a gig is not to shabby. I would post more but I am dead tired!

    Suse basic install question

Apparently (and I speak with little experience on the matter) this is an ISO file that will allow you to get a NIC working and enough resources to install the software via their FTP site or a mirrored site. The instructions that I got from the SuSE site said that all that was needed was the boot.iso from the 9.1/boot folder to do this.I have some instructions I printed out from...well from a random website apparlently and taeuler's instructions to burn the ISO properly. With this I am hoping I can get this puppy to fire up tonight. 7 more minutes and I am home free...I love getting off work at 2 AM! Ill let you know tomorrow how well I fair....wish me luck.

    Suse basic install question

So while we are on the subject. Is this a common step in the installation process when you are not buying the software? I was under the impression that the ISO files came ready to be loaded and were much larger than 23 megs which is what the SuSE files weigh in at. Just curious on this one.

Thank you Taeuler for your help. I will try this when I finally get out of the hole I call work I am guessing this question is answered 30 times a day so also thank you for your not being too annoyed with it.

    Suse basic install question

I have done some more reading and that is exactally correct from what I am seeing. I am downloading the image using a Dell Laptop with windows XP home and just copying the files straight over. I have been reading some obout writing the actual iso over instead of just the data file but to be honest it is making little sense. Apparently a year of technical managment rather than technical work has made me lose my edge . Anyone have a good how-to for writing the file properly?

    Suse basic install question

Hello all, I am guessing you can help me with this one as I am a blantent new guy to the linux world having only run basic installs of RH. I have decided to sit down and really delve into linux and wanted to try the Suse distro for a change of pace. Unfortunatley I cant get the boot CD to work. I have downloaded the boot.iso file and burned it to a CD. When trying to boot from this CD I get the standared no OS found. I am at a bit of a loss and in unfamiliar territory I think I have followed all the directions from the site properly but any insite would be great. Thank you all, try to be gentle with me .
