Hey guys. I'm after a new graphics card but I don't know if my motherboard has an AGP slot or not. Can anyone tells me what it looks like/how to find out or where it is on the motherboard. I have 3 white PCI slots, should it be near these???

I am in dire need of a decent video card thta will be able to handle most games relatively well that come out in the next few years. Is this worth it and will it be able to handle games like Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R??? GeForce 5 Ti5700 for £80 Should I AlecStaar?

Thanks for the info AlecStaar. ( I still don't know how to get that 'double s' thingy going on..... but anyway back to the point ) My budget for a new video card is around £150 MAXIMUM (not a great budget I know, but I am 16 and it's from my own pocket) and that was the best I have seen for that price range so far, my mouse was hovering over the 'ORDER' button for ages until I saw this reply. As for an NVidia GeForce 4 Ti4600, a price range please?

Check my specs on my profile and tell me if this card would run well/to it's potential on my PC please anyone.

Yes, I realise that there are hundreds if not thousands of people here give out plenty of advice and help to people but I have been a member for less than a month so I'm sure you will all forgive me for not knowing of them, it's just that whenever I login and look at the new forum topics, it seems that you two have always contributed to the thread by adding something useful. Sorry if I have offended anyone because I didn't mention them, but they were the fisrt 2 that sprung to mind... But like I said, thanks to EVERYONE for all help, tips, hints and advice given that has helped people solve their problems.

Yes doom... Never got to play the very first one, I just downloaded a shareware version but it doesn't work, such a pity. Even worse is the fact that my PC can't play Doom 3, thought I have seen it played and it looks and sounds (sound and music are just as important as graphics for the atmosphere don't forget) absolutely fantastic. Just got to twiddle my thumbs for Half-Life 2 now.....

Sorry to be obvious and cliched, but shouldn't Half-Life, Deus Ex and Blood 1 be mentioned. Having said that I've never actually played on System Shock 1 & 2.....

Hey anole328, I tried ur las pistol fix ( which sounds like it should work based on logic ) but now my whole game is messed up, none of my marines or the enemy can fire any weapons. It might work with other versions but not mine...

First of all I live in england and don't mind paying the shipping costs. But I don't know a phenomenal amount about graphics cards. E.G. whether it will be compatible with my PC,how to install etc. Basically I'm looking for a graphics card that will be able to run these games well(not at low settings); Halo Half-Life 2 UT 2004 Command & Conquer:Generals F.E.A.R. the new WH40k game (can't remember what it's called) and DirectX 9.0b compatible. From what I've heard this graphics card is fairly recent and very good. In all honesty can it handle these games at higher settings?

I don't actually know what blinkw.dll is (whether it's from the game or your PC etc.) but just try searching for it to download from a safe server

I actually had a speed problem with my PC that sounds a lot like yours (CPU usage 100% and over 60%of my page file) after I got broadband and thought that broadband was causing it. It wasn't. Out of my microfilter in the wall jack I had a phone, Sky TV and DSL line. I just unplugged my sky (only used when going interactive E.G. games, votes etc.) and it worked fine, with less process' on my PC (don't know which ones went). If you have Digital/Sky/Cable on the same phone line this may solve the speed issues', if not sorry I can't help.

right-click on the game icon then click properties. Compatiablity tab, run in compatability for win 95 or 98. This is the best place 2 start, then if that doesn't work post in this thread again

eer ok guys I take your words for it. Anyway, it turns out that my connection speed is fine, but that after having installed BT Braodband/modem my PC is slowing down and hence all programs aswell.( I re-installed Halo earlier and it took so long I completed Streets of Rage 2 on my megadrive while doing it!) When I open windows task manager, on the performance tab my CPU usage is always 100% and my page file is using around 130Mb-180Mb (out of 501Mb), even when running NO programs/applications. Does this have anything 2 do with my problem? If yes, do I need to end some process' and if so what?

Thanks for the advice guys I'm gonna get on BT's back ASAP. ScinteX, I have an in built Conexant Soft56k modem in my PC so I can't disconnect but thanks for the idea anyway. I'll let you know when/how/if I fix it so the mods can freeze this thread. Thanks.

Eerr.. I managed to get my desktop res to 640x480 by going hell of a long way around but still have the other problem about not having GPEdit.msc

Hey guys, I've been having the same problems with Chaos Gate ( the cultists lasers ) but I cant try Brok's solution because; A) The lowest res my desktop will go to is 800x600 not 640x480 and I am on XP Home so dont have GPEdit.msc I've tried lookinig in Regedit.msc but with no luck yet. Brok if you're out there ( or anyone who can help ) could you lot please suggest something. Any help is greatly appreciated. thx
