Did you get the hotmail account before the inbox size increased? If so, that might only apply to new customers. Otherwise, I would suggest you contact hotmail support

    Help with Ethernet/LAN/Xbox

My friend has his PC hooked up through his ethernet port which is the only one on his PC. And he wants to run his Xbox online through his PC. Can he plug his Xbox into the ethernet and use his LAN port for his PC? Sorry if I didn't describe that very well, that's all the info he has given me. Can anyone help?

    Help with Ethernet/LAN/Xbox

Umm, I think he means; He has two PC's linked by ethernet, but he needs the ethernet port for his Xbox, can he link up his 2 PC's via LAN?
  8. Hmmm, I got kind of bored, so I reverted back to my old 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics controller and tried to run Half-Life 2.(No, I'm not crazy trying to run it on 64Mb intergrated Graphics, I just wondered ) Later I will try taking 256Mb of RAM away and then maybe rlling back my sound and Graphics drivers. But anyway, back to the point... Now whenever it autosaves or I try to change the graphics settings (eg. texture detail, shadows etc.) I get the dreaded 'bong' of an error message and it says; The instruction at "0x241f8977" referenced memory at "0x01b6f5c0". The memory could not be "read". I can bypass this by opening the console and typing 'sv_autosave 0' or by changing the autosave files in the actual game folders to 'Read-Only' However, the changing of the graphics settings is still an issue, any ideas? P.S. Apart from these errors I have got it running and looking pretty good, but the FPS is something to be concerned with 8) . As I said though, I have got HL2 working on my normal GFX card, I was just curious as to how low it could go so to speak, so any suggestions/solutions aren't immediately important. I think I'll post my finished 'results' somewhere on the internet, to let people know the real minimum specs.

    generals : command and conquer

Right-Click the desktop and select properties. Then choose the settings tab and click the advanced button. Now select the adapter tab, and I think this should be the current device you are using for your graphics setup. What does it say?

    generals : command and conquer

C&C: Generals isn't meant to run at exactly break-neck speed, but if it is as in slow motion, then that might be a problem. Try turning some of the graphics options down, and turning off unecessary features (such as shadows and smooth water edges). The problem may lie in your graphic abilities. I gather from some of your other posts you have the Intel 82845G chipset. I have got C&C: Generals (and used to run it on this chipest! )and the truth is that this is not great for running it. As you have intergrated graphics, the higher your graphics settings, the lower your RAM, and hence the slower the game plays. Personally the first thing I would do is update you graphics driver to the 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics controller and see if this has any effect. This can be found here.
  11. I had a big problem earlier- one that resulted in me restoring my PC My PC was running fine, I shut it down as normal. Today, I turned it on and it came up with the DOS/command promt style font on full screen and it said in the top left hand corner; NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. _ Not being able to do anything else, I obliged and restarted, but then it came back after it had restarted, the exact same message. After doing it once more I restarted yet again but I opened the set-up menu(the BIOS edit thingy) just before it came to the aforementioned screen. I tried anything I could think of numerous times to resolve this problem from that menu but still to no avail. Having no idea what to do next or any means of going on the internet and finding help, I restored my original Factory settings. The problem is now resolved and my PC is running fine (it's actually running better than fine as I had countless gigabytes of hard drive used up, and dozens of background tasks/processes running from start-up, but anyway, back to the point) However what concerns me is the cause of this problem and that there were no 'warning signs' or symptomns of whatever happened. 1.Can anyone tell me what happened and how I could prevent this in the future? 2. What is NTLDR?

    RAM upgrade

Umm, ok then. I've got 2 DIMM slots and only one is used. How do I find out the specs of my current RAM then?

    RAM upgrade

Aha! ok thanks, I haven't checked yet (I'm still on my PC wouldn't you know! 8) ) but from what you say I guess it won' be hard to find out

    Half-Life 2

Give it a few months and Half-Life: Source and Day of Defeat: Source will hit the shelves no doubt. They are probably doing the same with those as they did with Blue Shift and Opposing Forces.
  19. I know this is an old thread, but new members may have this problem and stumble across this. To fix this problem when you get the error message mentioned earlier do this; Open device manager and open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Open the properties of the secondary IDE channel and click on the Advanced Settings tab. Change the transfer mode to PIO Only.

Yes, yes it is. CS:Source alone is enough to keep me going for a few milennia

It depends what you want it for really, they both have lots of pros and cons.

    2 things;

    1. Whenever I change the details on my account for this website, they are never saved, it always reverts back to my original settings, why is this? 2. (This one is kinda unimportant but it helps get the feedback forum rolling again) The four 'ranks' I have seen are; Moderator, Junior Member, Member and Senior Member. As it is only necessary to post 100 times to become a senior member, shouldn't there be a higher rank for the everyday users of these forums who have 1000's of posts?
