Oh dear.... Unless I'm mistaken (and knowing me that could well be the case )my windows xp home uses 5.5Gb from fresh when my PC has been reformatted. 1.Is this because I have home not pro? 2.Is this a bad thing? 3.Should I do something about this?

Should I get it? I have been holding off for ages because people keep mentioning problems caused by it. Explain 'depends' answers please

Do you guys know what your video card is? Is it an intergrated one and if so what make? (My intergrated Intel 845G/GL/GV chipset isn't T&L capable either)

Is Internet Explorer really THAT bad? It's all I use and I think it's fine, but I seem to be the only one? Anyways, I would download the latest drivers for your PC before you do ANYTHING when you get it, it could save quite a lot of hassle later on in your PC's timeline.

I actually enjoy trying to solve problems myself as it also allows me to get to know the layout/workings of my PC more and adds just that little bit more extra knowledge to my think box! EDITED-Yes, I have just realised that 'think box' was perhaps the worst analogy/metaphor for my brain ever! But it's past midnight right now and I've got homework that is in for school tomorrow-jeeeez I'm gonna be a while....

Of course the primary culprit at this stage would have to be your new PC. But if it isn't could it be something to do with the refresh rate/resolution or even colour depthof your monitor?

Btw jooq, APK is dead right, some programs just will not work on the wrong OS no matter what you try....

If you can get a good enough video card for £20(?!) I would buy it right now my man. Or if money really is an issue just download the latest drivers for your current chipset/GFX card.

First of all soory if there are any threads under this topic already ( I couldn't see any ). Anyway I was wondering if anyone could help me fix/diagnose the problems I am having with BT Broadband. I only got it about 2 days ago and it is way too slow. The max speed of it is 1/2Mb (576kps to be exact). I couldn't wait to get playin Halo and UT2004 at a respectable speed and actually download something in less than 3 days! However when I play Halo there is SO much lag I couldn't believe it-it was worse than my old 56k dial-up and my ping was over 2500. Later, when I tried to download a shareware version of Duke Nukem 3D, it said it would take 15.9 minutes on a 56k connection. 1hour 34minutes later I had downloaded it at a whopping 1.38kps average speed (sometimes dipping into 9xx bytes per second) (YES, LESS THAN 1KPS!!!!!!!) I have looked at the help off the CD and it doesn't help at all. I think it might be something to do with my actual wires connecting the modem to the phone line box. Ideally it would look like this; Phone Wall Jack-----Micro Filter------Modem------PC \ \ \ Phone My PC is a floor above my Wall Jack and the cables do not reach (a second wall jack is not an option for complicated reasons) So the help guide said I should try it with an extension lead in between the Phone Wall Jack and the Micro Filter but this didn't solve anything. So I tried using a longer cable (with RJ11PP20 plugs at each end) between the Micro Filter and the modem but my internet speed still didn't improve. I try to use the BT Broadband Help Online but it just closes itself after it loads up. My PC specs are as follows (and they meet the system requirements for broadband); Intel Celeron P4 2.3Ghz 256Mb DDRAM 80Gb Hard drive Intel 82845G Graphics Controller Windows XP Home Edition It's not a supercomputer by any means but it does the job. Can anyone help PLEASE?!?! It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Waffler.

I already have a quite recent desktop and am more than happy with it, however, it has an in built Intel 845G chipset and NO AGP slot on the motherboard. So rather than getting a new motherboard, GFX card and probably some new RAM while i'm at it, I though I should get a PC SOLELY for gaming purposes. I am looking for a PC for nothing but games running at high resolution and FPS and also for high speed online gaming. Preferably it will be able to handle new games for at least a good few years at high/average settings. All I want is high RAM, very good GFX card and a decent processor. However I do not want to break the bank as I already have a very well functioning PC.This new one will be used for gaming purposes only. Any suggestions for specs./price range and/or any links? Thanks in advance

The stars move from the middle of the screen outwards and appear only on this websites forum pages (and even then not all the time...). My PC is spyware and virus free so it is nothing to do with that. http://www.geocities.com/pjwit2001/index.html?1096054613750 I know the resolution is bad but i did it in about 30 seconds ok? You can still see what i mean though.

Hey guys I solved the problem-and it was sooooo simple. My sky TV was using the same phoneline as my phone and internet so I unplugged it (it is only used for Pay-per-view and interactive games) and my internet now works fine and at full speed! When I want to order and PPV etc. I simply plug the Sky lead back into the wall... However I don't have any ideas that will solve your problem Arronax. (Sorry!)

Don't you people know how to vote? I'm being serious, should I download it or not?

Is the tank a metaphor for your PC and the fish a game or peripheral??? Or am I reading into this too much?

I think we all know why the song was called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds ahem *LSD* ahem So why do you mention it all of a sudden AlecStaar? 8)

They just give out so damn much advice!!!! I personally think Alex is a lot more knowledgable when it comes to the technical side of things however Adam seems to know how to fix most problems posted on these forums. Discuss or don't discuss it's up to you guys, but I just thought I'd say thanks from me and everyone else to these to guys for their overwhelming knowledge of all things Windows (and most things not!). While I'm at it I don't think anyone has ever said this but thanks to everyone on these forums who has helped anyone with a problem. Regards, Waffler
