Cannot get Netgear MA311 to work no matter what!
rsteven replied to Dapper Dan's topic in Linux Networking
Thanks buddy! I have also been looking at: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net It seems to do the same sort of thing. I would rather use the free opensource version but the documentation is soooo poor for a newbie that I cannot understand. (A common problem with opensource) Thanks, Richard. -

Hi Dan, I have run the config-system-network command. The command started a neat little GUI but it only had my standard (non wireless) integrated motherboard Ethernet card listed. I tried to add a new device but the Belkin is not listed and I was not sure what device would use the same chipset. I tried a few at random but they did not work. The system can see the card at a PCI level as /sbin/lspci returns: 00:09:0 Network Controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94306 802.11g (rev3) Subsystem: Belkin Unknown Device 7000 .....etc. I also checked that the drivers were in the kernel. I did not know the name of the prism driver so I did not check that but the orinco_pci driver is present. What should I do. I am sure that it is something silly that I am not doing as I am a newbie to Linux! Thanks in advance :-) -

Thanks Dan, I have a DLINK router/modem (i dont have the model to hand). I will try what you suggested thanks :-) Also I may have bought a PCI Card and router that are not WEP compatible as one wants to use either 32/64/128 bit encryption and the other wants to use 10/40bit or figures along those lines. Its a bit of a pain and I am not that up on networking! perhaps there is another way that i can ensure security? Cheers, Richard. -

Hi Dan, I am new to Linux and I have just installed Fedora Core 2 (downloaded 3 days ago)on my PC. I have a Netgear WG311 card which does not seem to be recognised? ie The install has not picked it up and allocated a name to it. Do I have to do something to get it recognised? Is there some kind of hw scan? Also it seems that you recommend the orinco_pci driver. How do I get this and is there an automated way to install it? Or can i just use something in Fedora Core? Thanks in advance :-)
