  1. I haven't found a way to mage the GNOME battery monitor work with powersave, but it will work with acpid. You'll need to run YaST and choose Software --> Install and Remove Software. Then change the Filter dropdown to search and type acpid. From there you can install acpid. Then go to the YaST System --> Runlevel Editor, disable powersaved and enable acpid. After that, your battery monitor should work under GNOME. The kpowersave batter monitor under KDE will still work; it just won't have as much functionality (suspend to disk, etc). Hope this helps.
