What you could also use is "msinfo", you can either run it from its directory, in windowsXP its: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo (full file name is "msinfo32.exe") or you can click on START -> RUN -> type in msinfo32 -> click OK or press ENTER. If this dont work for you, then you could at least get an idea with this info of what you wanna do or need.

    Annoying things on the forum

About the email thing, I understand the problem with the "bounceback" problem, but, wont it be possible to create a rule or something to delete any incoming mail from people replying or service providers saying that the email addy does not exist anymore. I think the email thing (if it gets used again) might sort out the problem with the people putting their email addy on saying "please email me with the answer" I agree, this is the best forum I've been on, that is why I'm sticking to it, you may just as well call me friend, cause I'll be around for very long time to come. I love this forum, cause its got all kind of problems, not just one thing over and over (excl. the evil SIMS2), and I know quite a bit about problems cause I've worked at lots of big companies with lots of people that always has lots of problems, but that does not stop me from learning more, every day there is new problems, the saying with "a apple a day" only keeps the doc. away. I try to help as much as possible, but the last 2 or 3 weeks I've been busy with my CV and sending it around all ove the place looking for jobs and I've been away from home for a while and had no internet, but in the next weeks it should be a bit better, I just need to wait for all my CV's to come back saying "Thanks for your CV but we are sorry to inform you that we do not have any vacancies for you, good luck for the future" What I like about this forum is that everyone is friendly and everyone helps, its not like they just say its not their problem ask someone else (like most hotlines do), and you get to learn of more problems with their fixes. Your friend Wicked
  3. Bart's PE Builder is software you use to create a windows live CD, like the "Live ERD" CD that you can reset Admin passwords on 2000/XP servers and PC's. You can select what software you want to add to the CD/DVD like antivirus, CD-Burning software etc. It creats a live Windows CD/DVD (like Linux's "Knoppix") that you can boot with like the CD/DVD is a hard drive, and it boots into a fully functional OS with network support etc. It's a very nice utility.
  4. Imo I think the PE Builder is better, cause "The ultimate Boot Disk" is only for Windows 95/98/ME. Thanks for the PM Reply, I replied too. I've sent you the PDF, I hope it helps a bit. Enjoy

    Linux Suse 9.1 with WLAN

Hi All, Thanks for all the help and I'm really sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been busy with all kinds of other stuff and did not get round to my Linux, I've only got the one PC and to swop HDD to use Linux and then back to Windows is a pain, that is why I want my internet working so that I can go over to Linux and stop using Windows. I tried all of this and it looks good until I get to the last step where you run "./Configure", then you are supposed to run "make" but before you can do that it says something about it might be better if you use some other version of the config program or something like that, but the I run the make anyway and it works, but when I want to start the program with "./RaConfig" it says cant find the program or not valid or no such program or version or something, I cant remember exactly, it was a while ago that I tried it. But since then I tried the new "Knoppix 3.7" Live CD, and then unpacked it on the HDD with some "SUDO" command thing and booted from the HDD into Knoppix, but I must be really dumb, cause I cant find anything related to Wireless in Knoppix. Is it possible or are my chances better to do it with "Suse 9.1", I'm still really slow when it comes to any form of Linux, but I am very willing to learn and I want to make it my primary OS. I will get my brother-in-laws old PC 2moro then I can install Linux on there and use it all the time till I get the wireless network running on it so that I can get internet, then I will install Linux on my PC too and forget that I ever used Windows

  8. I'm sorry, I dont know much about "The Ultimate Boot Disk", I've never used it, only heard of it, but you might find some usefull info on This site. About the NLite, I've got a whole PDF doc, a "Complete Beginners Guide". I dont have a website and I dont know how to add it otherwise to the forum, so I can mail it to you if you want it.
  9. Here is a nice little introduction to Bart's PE Builder for you. I think if you know how to use this software and can create a good live CD/DVD you will have the "ultimate selfmade bootdisk", and you would not even need the "Ultimate BootDisk" you mentioned (entry 2).

I'm with you here APK, but I think most of these folks (like you said) aren't "tech freak/geeks" and they are looking for a solution, and due to their limited knowledge it could be possible that they cant find the site again to find the solution to their post. I dont know about this forum (I could be a bit blind or stupid, but I haven't seen it yet), but some forums has the option to send you a mail when your thread has been updated and in the mail is a link to that thread, I think it helps the new users a bit to find their way back imo.

PC hangs during install XP Pro

Do you have any USB devices like a card reader? If so, try to disable USB in the BIOS, after install you can enable it again.

    The 5GHz Project

My processor is a 3.2gig prescott, and it only gets cooled properly with the original fan I got with it, I bought a "SubZero ZG4" or something like that (I cant remember exactly, I sent it back) and I could not even boot into windows for longer than 5 secs then my PC would shut down due to overheating. But, I will have my new water-cooling unit on Thursday, I cant wait. The forum that my brother-in-law is on asked for photos of assembling/installing the watercooling to show everyone on the forum how it is done if they ever need to do it, would you guys like me to post the photos here as well?

    Opinions on STEAM

I know what you mean, I got HL2 2 weeks ago, it took about 15 minutes to activate and another 30 minutes to activate Counter Strike. I finished HL2 about 10 minutes ago, it was pretty cool, the best I've ever played.

You know computer guys cant really give much advice about love affairs, we love our PC's more and have our own problems with our wives, you know, like one of the things woman say is "you must choose between me and your PC", hee hee

USB2 external HDD error (delayed write .....)

OK, I sent him a mail, just waiting for a reply. In the meantime, check on the work PC that you're having the problems on what speed your USB is set to in the BIOS. What OS do you have at work? Try using something like Leechget, you can copy files with it and if the link is broken you can resume the copy without starting all over again.

I tried to boot to floppy and when it checks the boot record and says ok then it just sits there doing nothing. I cant format, i cant fdisk I cant do anything. Any advice? How many CD-ROM devices do you have, some motherboards (like mine) does not boot up from any CD-ROM if you select it to boot from CD first, you have to specify which CD-ROM to boot from. If you managed with that it should show you a message when booting up that says "Press any key to boot from CD" and then it has these dots counting down ............. Press any key and it will boot from the CD.
