Hmmm, you're still lucky, my hotmail account I've only got 2MB
-
I tried to mail you, but it says that the email addy dont exist. Anyway, your old RAM wont work in your new PC.

Your PC should be able to boot from CD, its a setting you need to change in the BIOS, when your PC starts up it says (press "Del" to enter BIOS), some PC's its "F2", "ESC" or "F10", bat anyway, you'll see it at startup. It will take you into the BIOS, there you should look for "BOOT Settings" or "Priority BOOT Devices", by default it should be: 1. A 2: Hard Drive 3. CD or DVD Drive Change it to: 1. A 2: CD or DVD Drive 3. Hard Drive Then you will be able to boot off CD (If the CD is bootable)

Make your list of what you want to do, browse the web for some PC shops in your region and look at the specs of each component, it all depends on how much you are willing and able to spend, the better it gets the more expensive it gets, I know, I've never bought a PC complete, I always buy parts and assemble it myself. On the PC websites they explain in detail about each component, like, if you want nice sound, either look at a motherboard with 7.1 surround or a motherboard with no sound and get a sound card seperate, you will know what you like when you see it. Give me a couple of web addy's of shops around or close to you then I'll also have a look and post some of the good things and then you can compare quality and price.

Try connecting the 2 AP with a LAN cable, I have not tested if its possible for 2 AP to comunicate or share workload and therefore I'm not 100% sure if that is possible, but I am sure there is someone that knows better than me that can help you. I know with the WiFi wireless LAN card you get software to set it up as a "Soft AP", then its a wireless on your PC connecting to your AP while it accepts other PC to connect to it as well and shares with the original AP, it almost acts like a hub or switch I would say, its pretty neat.
-
If both wireless routers (AP) has LAN points on them as well, I would connect them to each other with a LAN cable (if they are close enough together). You wont be able to give both of them the same SSID and use different channels too. How many PC's do you have on the network? And, is it just for a network or for internet as well?

Does it have only the Touchpad or does it have that little knob thingy between the key too, I remember we used to have similar problems with those, or do you use an external mouse. If you use an external PS2 mouse it should disable the Touchpad automatically (in some laptops), but if you use a USB mouse try to disable the touchpad and/or the little know thingy and see if that helps.
-
Yes, that is correct, I've been playing with Linux for a little while and I would love to learn it more, but I cant get my wireless to work on it so I dont have no internet, so I'm sticking to windows till I find a way to get it to work. So, I like Linux, and I think its interesting.

If the old PC is not P4 it will not be possible, look at the RAM, Your new P4's (DDR)RAM will have 184 pins where the old (SD)RAM will have 168 pins. Give me your email, I'll mail you photos of the 2 different type of RAM, cause I cant add it here
-
It should run, 2 mb is not a big difference at all, but if I can recommend something, get extra 256MB RAM, I believe that any P4 should not have less than 512MB to run properly, but that is up you.

Hi, as I am currently unemployed, I was wondering if there is any game writer out there that would like me to test their Beta games, I've got all the time in the world. Let me know. Thanks
-
If Sims 2 does a check to see if there is enough RAM and it absolutely needs 256 on the dot then it might not start the game, but if it doesn't the the game should work fine, because 2MB will not make a difference on any system, unless youve got an old 286 or something. What is the rest of the specs of your PC, its not just RAM that it wants as minimum specs

Either one of your cab files from the DirectX is kaputt or you need to try drop your security on "active X" controls and/or internet security policy, look at where it is and remember so that you can put it back after the DirectX install, drop it to "low" and try again, if it works you can set it back to normal. Let us know if it worked.

I know, you start building up a relationship with these people and becoming friends, then they start saying well, oops, I tried this and then this wont work anymore and so on. I dont mind helping people, I love it when they are happy once the problem is resolved, but now, well, I just sit at home and do nothing, cause I moved to Germany about 8 months ago to be with my wife and I still cant find a job, now I bother you all on this forum
-
You say its a Beta version, what graphocs card do you have and do you have the latest drivers and DirectX installed. If its beta there is a chance that it doesn't fully support all graphics cards and/or drivers.

You will need to go into your BIOS and set your boot priority to boot from CD-ROM first, put the CD in the CD-ROM and start your PC, at some point it should ask you to press ANY KEY to boot from CD... Do so. Then when its ready it'll ask you to press Enter to install WindowsXP and at some stage you'll have to press the F8 key to accept the license agreement. Then it should pick up your existing installation (sometimes) and ask you to press ENTER if you would like to repair or ESC if you want to install fresh, press ESC. It should show a screen with your partition(s), select the one you want to install XP on and press D do delete partition, when prompted press ENTER and then L to confirm, it should be on that screen with the partition(s) again, there you select the partition again and press ENTER, select your File system that you would like to format it and press ENTER, from there it should pretty much be on auto pilot. Enjoy

I know what you mean, thats why I chose this field, all the other jobs I did was boring, it was the same thing over and over. Like, imagine this, I worked at a very big company with +/- 400 PC's and about 500 users, and out of them I would say about 50 is experienced and we dont have problems with them, the rest, well, a diferent problem everyday, it keeps you on your toes. And your worst fear is a user learning a little bit more about a PC and then they start playing around and breaks something, when you get there they lie and say it just stopped working and you have to look for the prob and fix it, but it would be so much easier if they told you what they did.

Does anyone here run Water Cooling in their PC's, I'm interested in getting my PC Aquafied and would like to know if it is really worth it? And how mch it will cost more or less and where I can get. Thanks Wicked PS: I live in Germany (Can't speak German though)

I had the same problem when I bought my PC, I bought it part by part and built it up, first my Graphics card was faulty, then my Hard Drive was Faulty, then I could not install cause it needed a 3rd party driver and it only reads it of stiff, and these days you dont get drivers on stiffies no more, only CD's and I did not have a stiffy drive, so, I had to buy one and some blank stiffies, then I copied the files from the S-ATA folder of the CD to the stiffy and did the F6 3rd party driver install and all was fine. Then I tried installing Linux and I had the same problem, but with a twist, I did not have a driver for Linux and I could not find one, so I updated my BIOS and that sorted the problem out, I never needed a stiffy again, no matter what.

Someone was talking about this game earlier, is this game free like Americas Army (I dont know if its still free, but I know it used to be and you could download it off the American Army webpage), can I download it somewhere, or aint it one of those free jobbies and do I need to buy it. I've only heard good things about this game, now I am dying to try it. Thanks

PC rebooting after SP@ install - help please!
Wicked101 replied to purple_lily76's topic in Software
I also had that problem before with SP2, I had all the latest drivers and software, but once I installed SP2 my PC would not start up, it just kept rebooting, not nice. -
Hi, I just looked on the box of the WiFi card, I think the model is "WiFi-B/RALINK-EAY", that's exactly how they say it on the box.

I dont think the -s worked in "lspci -vv -s", so I did it without it, just "lspci -vv" and then it gave me a whole lot of stuff, but this is the one you asked for; 0000:03:0d.0 Network controller: Unknown device 1814:0101 Subsystem: Asustek Computer, Inc.: Unknown device 0127 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=slow >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64, cache line size 04 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 21 Region 0: Memory at feafc000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- If you want the rest of it let me know and I can paste all of it for you.
