    Linux Suse 9.1 with WLAN

Thanks to all for the posts, I will try this now and get back to you A.S.A.P., I have to shut my PC to get into Linux first. And danleff, to answer your question, yes, it works 100% in Windows, it needs a driver, nothing special I dont think, because its a WiFi slot I can either use my motherboard CD to install the driver or I can use the CD that came with my WiFi@home card. OK, I will try this now and get back to you. Thanks

    Linux Suse 9.1 with WLAN

Hmmm, like I said, I'm still a bit new with linux, I know it as well as a 80 year old knows how a cellphone works, slowly please. I've played with Yast a little bit, and I think it picked up the Wifi card, but then again it could be anything it picked up and cause it says ASUS I thought it could be the card. I've got an ASUS (P4C800-E Deluxe) motherboard with onboard Wifi slot, so I bought the ASUS Wifi-b card, it says on the box "For ASUS Wi-Fi slot only, not PCI interface". What is IPv6? and how do I turn it off? please. Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it.

I hope that someone could be able to help me please. Thanks Wicked

    A7N8X-E Deluxe spontanious rebooting

It might be boiling only thing I can think of at this stage is that your PC is cooking. Try getting a better CPU fan in there or some more venilation going inside that box.
  6. Howdy, this aint a nice problem, seeing that this happens with different operating systems the only problem could be Hardware or Drivers, try the latest drivers for graphics, Sound and motherboard chipset, but, with all the other hardware you tried it could be something you didn't change or still Driver issues. Look at the Stop error and give me the driver name. This Stop message should have four parameters: 1.) Memory address that was improperly referenced. 2.) IRQL that was required to access the memory. 3.) Type of access. 4.) Address of the instruction that attempted to reference memory specified in parameter 1. If the last parameter is within the address range of a device driver used on your system, you can determine which device driver was running when the memory access occurred. You can typically determine the driver name by reading the line that begins with: **Address 0xZZZZZZZZ has base at <address>- <driver name>

    PC vs. Console

Hmmm, a Linux Xbox, now that sounds interesting. You know, I'm new to Linux and I already like it more than Windows, if they could use Linux on Xbox you would have the ultimate gaming station, hee hee. I worked on Digital satellite decoders called "Dream Box", its a decoder with a Hard drive and running Linux, you can record straight to the hard drive. Pretty cool

    Help with Mandrake 10 please.

Linux will automatically partition the hard drive during installation, you dont need to worry about that.

    PC vs. Console

Well, if you had to sit down and think about it, Xbox is acually nothing more than a PC itself, its got a processor and hard drive just like a PC, it just dont run windows, its got its own operating system

    hello

Have you tried the latest drivers for your graphics card? Go to http://www.nvidia.com/ Download the latest driver and try again

    battle of the computers

But, since then I got a bit more civilized, once I moved to Germany I bought myself a new PC, Piece by piece. This is the best PC I've ever had or worked on, and I've worked at very big companies with lots of money and the best of the best. P4 3.2Gig, 1024 cache, 800FSB, prescott Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard 1024MB RAM GeForce 5900 Ultra/1300TV/DVI 256MB (Golden Edition) 160Gig S-ATA HDD (Running XP) Wifi-b Wireless 10/100/1000 LAN (onboard) Logitech 6.1 speaker system DVD ROM DVD Burner Saitek R440 Force Steering Wheel (Force Feedback) 2 x Saitek P220 Gamepads (Digital Throttle) 40Gig 8MB HDD (Running Linux)

    battle of the computers

HAHA, try my second PC. Running Windows 2000 Server (was as a test) PI 120 64MB RAM (Had to borrow another 64MB cause Windows would not install with less than 128) ISA Creative soundcard ISA FM card (before TV cards) 6 Gig HDD 2 button mouse (no wheel) 4 speed CD-ROM (I had to use a faster one, it would've taken 2 days to install Windows) And the worst of all, I set up an account and tried to log on to the "server" with my PIII, it took a little bit longer than 15 minutes to authenticate my password before my PIII could show the desktop True story

    Tape drive.

That is correct, it will take very long to compress, but then again, that is why the main backup runs on weekends and the incrimentals everyday.
  15. Well, with Microsoft I would say that anything is possible, especially if its licensing and money. If you dont feel like paying up or rnning to every machine every 90 days to delete the registry key, you could write a little batch file to delete the registry key when the person logs on, you can add it to their logon on the terminal server.
  16. I like this, Alec§taar is on a roll, its not everyday you get someone that knows everything and is willing to help with a smile. Well done, thanks Alec§taar. Now, eberenholz, if it is not possible to recover or find your hard drive with those neat recovery tools on the CD, you could try one more thing to make sure that its not your hard drive that went bang, you could connect it to IDE2 instead of IDE1 and try to boot up, I've seen IDE's sleeping with the fish after a power out, not too often, but it happens.

    PC vs. Console

I agree too, PC's are the best, with a console all you can do is play games, with a PC you can do anything, you can upgrade it and if something breaks you can troubleshoot and fix it yourself, if that console goes you got problems. Oh yes, and another thing why PC's are better, didn't your mother ever tell you its not good to sit so close to the TV or to watch TV for too long I just love PC's, and its my job, dude, if there was PC's when I was born I would've been born with a PC under my arm.

    WIFI and SSID broadcasts

I'm running wireless at home with 3 PC's and a Access Point, one PC on the LAN and 2 Wireless, I did not disable the SSID but I set mine up with Static IP's and to only allow the Mac address of these three PC's, and I set up WEP with my own key combination. Another tip is to change the default IP address that your Access Point (router) ships with, cause anyone that has one knows more or less what IP it uses.
  19. Ohhhh yeah, Smallvill is my fav, I dont think I've missed one episode from Season 1 Episode1 to Season 4 Episode 8, that is about 74 Episodes

END PROGRAM NVIDIA TWIN VIEW WINDOW

Hi, Right click on your desktop and click properties, then click settings tab at the top, click advanced button at the bottom, click on the Nvidia or GeForce tab at top, if you have one of the latest detonator drivers installed it should open a quick access panel on the left of that window, click "nView Display Mode", under nView modes in the middle of the window you should select "Single Display" Let us know if it doesn't work CIAO

    LAN problems

Ohhh, Sorry ScinteX, I only saw now that you had the link in there about the cables, silly me, I could've saved myself a lot of time if I saw that before I wrote a story book answer.

    LAN problems

Yes, you'll need a crossover cable, look at the 2 RJ45 connectors at the end of the cable, you should see 8 colored wires, if both of them looks exactly the same with all the colors in the same order then its not a crossover. For a crossover you need to swop (If you´re wrking from left to right) cable 1 with 3 and cable 2 with 6. If your cable happens to be a crosover already then the problem could be your network card settings. Check that both PC´s has been set up to the same speed network connection, you get Auto, 10MB with half and full duplex and there is 100MB with half and full duplex, I would suggest 100MB with full duplex. OK, now, check the network settings, make sure that everything is set exactly the same on both PC´s except for the static IP address (it works better with static). Make it something like 172.16.0.1 on one PC and 172.16.0.2 on the other, but make the subnet mask the same on both PC´s, it should give you a default one of 255.255.0.0 after you´ve entered the IP address, this is good enough. If you still have problems you know where to go

Unmapable and strange behaivor keys in some games.

Hi, I had a similar (well, sort of) problem with Thief3, I could not change any key settings, the moment I clicked on any key it would quit the game, but I could play the game with default keys and it works fine. What language keyboard do you have? Cause I did not have this problem in S.A. but I have it here in Germany

    Untitled thread

Hi all, I´ve got 2 little problems. 1) My power saving mode (monitor power settings) does not work for some or the other reason, it does not matter what timeout I select or which option, and neither does my screen saver, it just doesn´t go on or off or whatever. 2) I've connected my TV to the PC so that I can watch movies in bed but its only in black and white and no matter what I do I cant get it in color. I downloaded TV Tool but it does not work either. Its S-Video. Thanks XP Pro SP1 Intel P4 3.2GHz, 800 FSB, 1024 Cache, HT. Asus P4C800-E, 800 FSB 1024MB RAM, 800 FSB Geforce FX5900, 256MB
