How many Windows XP Pros to buy?

Thanks Adam for clarifying this for me. I appreciate it.

    Installing two hard drives

Hey, Thanks again Andy. Was thinking about using Partition Magic to divide the 200 drive in two and place OS/Applications on one side and the data files on the other as you suggested and then use the second 100 drive as additional failsafe backup of the data files as well. I know, paranoid. Stop laughing. I guess I'll divide the 200 during Server '03 Installation and then once the OS is up, use Disk Management to format the second drive.

    Installing two hard drives

Thanks AndyFair. By, "set up the other drives and partitions using disk mangler," you mean a program like Norton Partition Magic 8.0? I also want to run Ghost 9.0 on the server for backup purposes as well.

    Installing two hard drives

Bought a new 200GB hard drive and using my old 100GB hard drive as a second drive in my system. The new drive will be the master and the older one slave. Both drives will be formatted and partitioned with one partition each. I'm installing Windows Server 2003 Enterprise using NTFS file system on the master drive. During installation, will I be asked about the second drive so I can make it NTFS too?

How many Windows XP Pros to buy?

I think it's Office XP that Microsoft allows you to place on two different systems. Brother, this is gonna be expensive.
  6. Want to upgrade two XP Home desktops and two Windows ME systems - one desktop - one laptop to XP Professional. Should I buy Retail Boxed (Upgrade or Full) or OEM versions of XP Pro? I find great savings on line for OEM versions but am not sure. Can I use two OEM versions and install them on the four systems? I thought there was a two system installation limit to each OS purchased but need that verified. Are there any significant differences between Retail Boxed (Full or Upgrade) and OEM versions?

Installing Server 2003 on PC instead of server

Thanks again ds3. Here's a follow up. I received the Evaluation Kit and tried to test compatibility first through the GUI and then through "X:\i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly" as suggested and both times the Upgrade Advisor came back with "Windows setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows XP Home edition to Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. Setup cannot continue" I would think since this is an XP system that once I reformat the drive, I should be able to install the Server 2003 without compatibility issues. Any thoughts?

Installing Server 2003 on PC instead of server

Thanks for the reassurance and the speedy replies. Regarding X:\i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly, would I used that from the Server 2003 CD before reformatting my HD to see if the hardware on the box I'm installing it on complies?
  9. Want to Install Server 2003 on my PC instead of server. I'll be using the Server 2003 evaluation kit and want to get a feel for it before investing in a server for home. I have a vpr Matrix box with P4 2.0GHz, 512MB PC2100 RAM, 100GB HD, DVD-ROM, CD-RW and was going to reformat the HD to install Server 2003 cleanly. I have a small home network of only 4 systems: 2 XP and 2 ME. Was thinking of formating the 100 HD with 70/30 partitions with 70 NTFS and 30 FAT32 so my ME's can access. Should I expect many problems?
