i think we can rule out faulty network card i just send the client computer to the shop today and tested it. works fine. for the host computer i installed another network card but still the same. i can basically connect to ecah other on that is it really laggy. copying files like 5 mb takes ages. maybe around 3 minutes. and when i download files, the internet speed is reduced. some of my programs detect that some of the port is block even though i free the port. i just reinstalled windows xp for the host computer and it still lags. updated to sp2 also. after alot of trouble i still cannot solve this unusual problem. someone help!

i did as you guys instructed already but still failed. The host computer can connect to the internet properly. i ran the wizard on both computers and it wont connect at all. No net and can't share files. I also tried disabling the firewall for both computers and still the same.

i have the ip addresses from my isp already. and i can connect to the internet on the server computer perfectly. just dont know what dns should i put for the network card TCP/IP settings. i dont want to get a router. and i have been doing this before. only now that i change my computer there is this problem. is there a possibility that the network i got is faulty? (intel Pro/100 VE )

yup i have a hub. my isp uses static ip address too. anyway i tried using a crossover cable too on 2 coms but the same this occurs.

you say PC1 needs a default gateway right, i tried using my isp ip address for the "ip address" and "default gateway" but it wont work. what ip address should i put in there? i tried disabling my firewall temporary too but still the same. how do i let DCHP assign the ip address? by running that network wizard? i tried that and it wont communicate with each other at all. Hence, i cant surf or share files. i tried typing ipconfig /all and i noticed that my "ip routing" says NO my DCHP is not enabled too. and so as my WINS

sorry, for the client computer the DNS is 192.168.0.1 and secondary left blank there should not be a problem with the cables because i tried using different cables and the same thing happen.

hi guys i am wandering if anybody could help me solve this problem. i just bought a new computer with build in network card ( intel pro/100 VE) i have 2 computers on the network connected through a hub host computer connect to the internet via usb and works perfectly. Both using windows XP with SP2 installed. Both network drivers are updated. when i run network wizard on both computers it wont work. i cant browse files and connect to the internet on the client computer. but if i manually configure the ip address on both network card it works. but the connection is really slow and i browse files on the other computer really slow. this is what i did to the ip address Host Computer ip address : 192.168.0.1 subnet : 255.255.255.0 gateway : (blank) Client Computer ip address : 192.168.0.2 subnet : 255.255.255.0 gateway : 192.168.0.1 *Both DNS for both computers left blank i can't hardly copy any file from on computer to another for both sides. but browsing files on the host seems faster than client. i tried many ways to fix this but failed. someone please HELP!!
