I had Iconedit open and it went dead and opened 2 more windows, i wanna know how to terminate the program like hitting Crl+alt+del in windows, and selecting which program to terminate. Thanks in advanced for the help!!

Pay no mind to the question, found the answer. Here it is for those that encounter the same problem. <Ctrl><Alt><Esc> (in X-windows, KDE) Kill the window I am going to click with my mouse pointer (the pointer changes to something like a death symbol). Similar result can be obtained with the command xkill (typed in X-terminal). Useful when an X-window program does not want to close (hangs?).

Wow, nice!!!! I guess an applet, or am i wrong? I gave in to my imagination and let my hand go loose and do whatever it came up with. The color blue never changed though. More colors would make it more phicadelic, or however it's spelled. Nevertheless, thanks for the link, i had a blast!!!

And i think it's gonna stay alive for a long time. I just became a linux addict, since i have managed to find everything i need, plus i am interested in linux so much that i have to use it for the smallest task, like: burning Cds, browsing, listen to music, download music, C programming, chatting, posting. I just have a few things to learn and figure out: setting up mysql, setting up webservers for PHP and setting up my network with my brother's PC, running Windows XP. I guess that when i'm done doing this, i could say i am a satisfied with linux. Everyday i move away further from windows, just not confident enough yet, so i just keep it there just in case i mess up or in case of an emergency. I just hope more people realize soon that you have a free, stable and nice Os at their disposal. Many reasons may come up for using linux. I can think of a few important ones that make linux worth praising.

I just downloaded limewire for linux, but it has no readme file where i can see how i install it. It's a .bin file, i've just begun using linux, so i tried decompressing with tar -x but it does nothing. I double-clicked it and nothing happened. Suggestions anybody?

Thank you all, i actually was missing the PATH variable for java. All i did then was specify it, like so: PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_06/bin sh ./LimeWireLinux.bin Using LimeWire now, excellent. 8)

I am using KDE under mandrake 9.1. Does this distro come with an app itself that i can use to burn mp3's for my car stereo? Or general files? I found k3b and i am gonna try writing a CD. I guess it recognizes the writing device automatically. Anyway, i'll just try burning those files. CDs are cheap.

Although i now question why am i running it, cause it so darn complicated and i have such a long to learn how to get around it smoothly. I guess having 6 years cruising with it gives you all the knowledge one needs to feel safe using it. Me, i can't give up windows yet, why? various reasons: 1. i still don't know how to addapt environmental variables for my needs of installing something, 2. i haven't found a way, close but not quite there, to burn CD's as swiftly as in windows, 3. a lot of the apps like dreamweaver and .NEt framework do not run under linux. So my hands are a bit tied up. But still my interest is to become a linux pro or expert i don't know, guru maybe. To accomplish this, i just have to use it every day and read this forum too every day.

Isn't there a gnutella client or something like that that does the same thing as limewire? Cause i am getting really tired of looking for that environmental PATH variable. Have no idea what the error is.

I want to add a USB key device. I tried out somethings i read on the web, but all i got was a desktop item that says: "Hard Disk (sda1)(not mounted)". Does anyone know how to get a USB stick working on mandrake 9.1? Thanks

I am now trying to install the java virtual machine here, cause the limewire installer requires it to work. After getting over with this other problem, i'll check out those instructions again. Meanwhile, suggestions are very welcome. I have tried one more time to install the j2sdk, it didn't give out any problems. Still, the limewire installer (sh ./LimeWireLinux.bin) tells me that "there is no Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH environment variable." What does this mean?

How can i get my SanDisk USB key working on mandrake 9.1?

The usbstick appeared now on the desktop, and every instruction i followed without any problems, but is gives me some new errors. 1. On the desktop is says: Hard Disk (sda1)(not mounted). 2. When i double click on the icon, an error msg comes up that reads: only root can mount dev/sda1 on /mnt/win_c2. I changed my user using 'su root' on the terminal to be sure i was writing every step as a root, right? And no problems occurred. Am i missing something?

I have a Gforce 4 64 MB and i feel its not working here cause some flash files dont run as smoothly as i expected. Should look for the linux drivers for this video card? Its nvidia btw.

I am a linux newbie using mandrake 9.1, and it seems to be fine in order so start learning. I just ran some shell commands to install the mozilla flash player, just reading the readme file. I think most of the learning is like somethingotherthanwindows does: just installing and going around reading and you learn. So keep it up. In my case its the same, i have to work tomorrow and i am up reading all these replies. Being a computer geek pays off i think.

I am interested in some mandrake 9.1 assistance. I just turned to linux and i just put it on my computer. Installation was interesting since i had a grasp, i knew i had to create the swap space and then the rest of it assign it to the installation itself. Giving size to both of them. Really cool. Now i have to install the flash player, but i have no idea how to unzip and run the install on linux. Still interested in helping out? Giving a hand to new users? I can tell you that so far i love it. Although now i cant check out my yahoo mail cause the buttons and links appear all messed up and around the screen. Strange huh?

I am running KDE, thats right. I can get to /etc/fstab and see it through a cat command, but how can i copy it to paste it here? Anyway, the last 2 lines are like follows: /dev/hdc5 /mnt/win_d ntfs ..... /dev/hdc6 /mnt/win_e ntfs ..... According to this, ther are already mounted, but i cant find them anywhere to view their contents. Does this help?

I just ran into linux about a month ago, and now i love it. I think i got it running to change the use of windows, although it has worked fine for me the last 2 and a half years. Mostly, linux makes me feel like a computer pro, cause it doesnt assume that you know or gives you all the nice gadgets windows does. And quite frankly, i love it so far. I just wish i knew more so i could make the best of the amazing tools it provides. I also want to play some games with linux, but know not where to start. Suggestions are very welcome at this point. Hi everyone. I am a mandrake 9.1 newbie, and i wanted to access my past windows partitions from here. I checked on google how to mount automatically partitions. According to this, my etc/fstab file must have some extra lines for the partitions to mount from the begginning. This file is the same as the ones i checked out, but the partitions are nowhere to be found, so i can access them from home or the desktop. How do i make them appear? Thanks for the help.
