I am looking for a working micro-ATX motherboard (socket 478) that can support a Celeron 2.8 GHZ processor and 2 GB of PC2700 ram. Preferably with an AGP 8x slot but lesser AGP or PCI only is probably fine too! I can pay with paypal or any way you would like pretty much. Reply back here or drop an email to cdougherty01@hamline.edu and i will respond within 24 hours. Please include full name of mobo so i can find specs on the net or include a link to a site with the mobo. Thanks! P.S. Not wanting to spend over 50 bucks, i can get a brand new one for that with an agp 8x slot

Can delete above post. I found a great deal on ebay!

Subject says it all http://usa.aopen.com/products/mb/s661GXm-U.htm Doesn't matter if it is a good overclocker, but i just need to know if it has the capability to do so. My current mobo is growing more and more defective by the minute and i found the one above on ebay for 24 dollars shipped

Awesome thanks Relic! I googled it but didnt have time to look through very many sites to check. Thanks again

Yeah I plan on building a pc from TigerDirect, i just want to get this PC solid for my girlfriend to use. I found a cheap mobo with an agp slot that i could toss a cheap card in to upgrade the mx4000 but it says pentium 4 socket 478, but doesnt say anything about celeron. Let me know if this would work with my Celeron 478 pin processor? ECS mobo I will soon be posting parts of my new pc to make sure everything is compatible, and see if anyone has any cheap recomendations.

I've tried with my ram sticks individually and that didn't change anything, and you are right, my PC runs extremely cool. I am in my dorm room with a window open and the wind hits the back of my desk and rolls down to my pc, so right now my processor is running at 76 degrees fahrenheit. And I am led to believe that its my mobo now that i've tried two power supplies, and booted with everything unplugged except one (100% working) ram stick in there. Thanks for the responses and now it's time for me to build a new pc sad thing is, i was going to give this one to my girlfriend, her family has a Packard Bell P3 1.4ghz i think it is, with probably 128 ram tops. thanks again for all the replies!

Were you downloading it from a website or p2p program? or do you mean installing off the CD?

Sorry I had them in my original post, but i was typing on my friends tiny Mac laptop (yuck) and kept hitting the back key and losing my post! Here we are: Celeron 2.8 GHZ (Stock fan/heatsink) Nvidia Geforce MX4000 128mb PCI video card 1 GB SuperTalent PC2700 RAM 120GB 7200RPM WD HDD 2 80mm case fans 1 8" cold cathode light (not plugged in for this testing) Intel 845GV motherboard Lite-On 48x CD-RW Lite-On 56x CD-ROM And the powersupplies in question. Here is another piece of confusing information. After running normally on the 250 watt psu, when it wouldnt start, I unplugged everything I didn't need to boot up and it still wouldnt work, but after awhile I plugged everything back in except I didn't flip the switch to the cold cathode light on the back of the pci slot, and usually i can turn it on and off while the pc is running, but this time i turned it on and the pc shut down.

Ok here is what is happening now. I went and bought a 350 watt PSU and hooked it up and it booted just fine. I had my PC on for probably an hour or two at the most, and this morning it wouldnt boot again. (With the new 350 watt PSU) I unpluggd for awhile and plugged it back in and it booted up. But when I turned it off it wouldnt boot up for another 15 minutes or so. The power supply calculator recommends a 261 watt PSU. So 350 should be plenty. I am just confused why it is doing the same thing with a new PSU all of a sudden, and it never even did this before with the 250 watt one.

Also, is it a PS2 keyboard or a USB keyboard? And have you tried to use both kinds?

My friends and I enjoy building PC's out of leftover parts and older parts of computers and overclocking them to a usable speed and just plain messing around with parts we dont need anymore. My question is: we ran across a free Intel 845GV mobo and in the BIOS there is no options for clock frequency or core voltage or anything. I am wondering if there is anyway to unlock the mobo for overclocking, similar to the Coolbits registry hack for video card overclocking? Post anything you know about it! Thanks!

kk thanks. just a crappy old board anyway, not even an agp slot! we just had an old geforce mx4000 to toss in there, they oc pretty well for a crappy pci card. thanks again

Hey all, I have a little problem with Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots Gold Edition. When i try to run it (legit copy and everything) I get an error message that says "BHG RTS run time FATAL" "MSXML 4.0 is no properly installed." But when i head to microsoft.com and try to download and install the MSXML 4.0 file it says it cant be installed because "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component: {303994BA-6487-47AE-AF1D-7AF6088EEBDB}.HRESULT:0x80070002." Any ideas what i need to do? My friends and I really want to get a big LAN game goin and I don't wanna be left out! Thanks in advance!

Hey all, A friend of mine has a Dell Inspiron XPS laptop that is barely a year old. He had no problems with it for about 9 months and suddenly it began to be EXTREMELY slow. With minimal processes running (30-39 a few more than i'd like but hes running an external soundcard and his mouse and headset add a few) back to my point, when the system is fully booted up and operatioal, having a single IE window open puts the processer usage up to 100%. And just unbelievably slow performance on what was a very fast laptop a few days ago. We tried scanning for spyware and all the cleanup jobs, and that did not help. He reformatted his HDD and reinstalled Windows XP, but to no avail. Still sadly slow. bootup, restart, and running anything takes 100x longer than it did last week. Specs: Pentium 4 3.4GHZ 512MB ram (DualChannel) PC3200 ATI Radeon 9800 vid card 80GB HDD Any ideas at all on what we can do to figure out what is wrong or where the slowdown is occuring? Dell just says to reformat and thats about it. Next step is a full disassembly and reassembly just to see if that does anything. We are out of ideas and any ideas are welcomed. Thanks!

Which is faster, one 7800 GTX or 2 7800 GT in SLI mode?
tool_462 replied to WRX_Rocky's topic in Hardware
I'm sorry I cannot fully answer your question, but here is a little tidbit. I've been reading, and I found that the 7800GT when overclocked to 450/1100 mhz, (Stock Cooling is sufficient) it runs on par with the 7800GTX. Though I cannot make a for-sure call, but this info would lead me to believe dual GT's in SLI would be faster than a single GTX. But in conclusion, I would personally get a GTX, overclock it, and when prices drop I would pick up another GTX and SLI them. But your call. -

Dosfreak may have said this in a bad way and you didnt understand. He basically said "Do what Willhelmus said to do, that will fix your problem." He could have said "Do what Willhelmus said to do, that will fix your problem." Just try Willhelmus' idea and if that doesnt work, let us know and we can try to help you! (More others can help you than I but I like to think I try)

I agree, the numbers I've seen for BF2 and other high graphics games are showing SLI only is giving about 5-11% improvement in frames per second over a single overclocked card. But crossfire has shown 30% so im not sure where the bigger increase is coming from. basically what im saying is, why not buy one card and when games come out that it cant handle (will be awhile) buy another one for probably half what it costs now? Thats what i would do, but if money isnt a problem SLI always sounds cool -
I was also going to recommend the GeForce 6600GT Amazing card for the price, and paired with a gig of ram and a decent cpu, plays most new games on high details. awesome card and can be found for around 125 bucks. Here is a link to one for 109.99 after a 20 dollar rebate. I personally only purchase from tigerdirect.com eVGA GeForce 6600GT

I was downloading 3dmark03 and cancelled the download in FireFox, because i found one with higher download speed. Now i have a partially downloaded file on my desktop and when i try to delete it, it says it is in use by another program. it isnt in the download window of firefox and i have no idea why it says that. Can anyone give me an idea? I like my desktop nice and orderly and it is bothering me

Cicero computer.. cannot get sound working!!! please help
tool_462 replied to wetdonkey's topic in Hardware
If it is a PCI sound card, try going to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any Onboard sound stuff. but only if its a sound card. -
Cool that was easy Never used that program before. Thanks! Having it installed and on my right click menu doesnt add a running process does it?

A friend of mine has the ATI Mobility Radeon x300 in his laptop, and plays games like World of Warcraft and Half Life 2 with no conflict, so I would make an assumption that Sims 2 should run with no hitches. Graphics settings wont be maxed out in the game, but that isnt a big deal in the Sims.
