If you have SP2 then you should have 9.0C of direct X. Maybe try downloading the full Windows XP SP2 file and run it.

If your OS is XP then just install SP2 which includes that version of Direct X.

You could try DirectX Happy Uninstall then try again to install.

It is not installing cause you must already have the version installed that you are trying to install. What does dxdiag say for version? About all I could find is this list of fixes. Scroll down for the answers.

If you are trying to dual boot with 98 you need to install 98 before installing XP or 2000.

Remove the drive through device manager then reboot and see if windows will detect the drive correctly.

This has been posted in the compatibility section of this site back in 2004 as not working on XP.

What version of DirectX does Windows say you have now? Start/run then type in box dxdiag Sometimes direct3d will not run right if you are using something to force monitor refresh rates. As far as SP2 you can download it from here.
