XP Start Menu Items sloooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!

Ya I agree that three sticks will slow it down as you do not have the same amount per channel. Manual for that board says the following: Quote: For dual channel configuration, the total size of the memory module(s) installed per channel must be the same for better performance. Would be better to either take one stick out or add another so you have four but some boards do not handle that too well. -

System Restore Blank Page. Tried several fixes, none of them worked!

I do not have that control and never have. -
After trying them all including Diskeeper I stayed with PerfectDisk. If you want a free Defrag application then DefragNT is pretty good.

I am leaning toward this being a third party program problem changing a default setting. Spybot is good but sometimes it goes overboard and tea timer is a useless use of resources. Since you are being asked about running activeX then either a program is blocking or your internet security zones are at some custom setting. Do you have the same problem in safe mode? -

A friend had this problem and it was from one of the recent patches for Internet Explorer. Not sure if you want to try this or not but here goes. Go into add/remove programs and make sure the show updates box at the top is checked. Find and remove Security Update for Windows XP (KB896688). -

If so then you can only select one drive for use with the built in burning so this is normal. ASPI is not in XP by default and only certain third party programs require it. I/O errors can be due to poor media. Are these original discs or ones you have burned?

Does your board have AGP or PCI-e slot for video card?

I thought Rogers used Yahoo browser. Internet Explorer is as safe as any browser if you just take the time to setup the security zones and not use default settings. I have been using IE for 10 years and have never had a virus or spyware problem.

IE will not load some pages (including nt compatible)

You have a XP CD? If you do then try a repair install which will re-install Windows but your programs will be uneffected. XP Repair Install After the repair you will need to re-install updates and/or service packs. -

Arin You may be able to fix IE this way. Start > Run > sfc /scannow If not then try this: Start > run > c:\windows\inf In that folder browse to the file named ie.inf then right click on it and select install. This should reinstall Internet Explorer. I just checked in IEFix and pointing to the iexplore_ex works on mine. Files of type below it says it can point to iexplore.exe or iexplore_ex. -

IEFix can reinstall Internet Explorer and make sure the dlls, registry entries are in there correctly. Since you have the files extracted you could just point IEFix to that folder when it asks for CD. -
One PC I own with a 500MHz CPU can top 100 FPS in games. He even said the same PC with other card did better so I tend to think this card is the problem.

Must be a driver problem or the card itself then if overriding did not help. See if a fresh install of the latest drivers will help and make sure all remnants of old drivers are gone. Uninstall drivers then follow the directions for running Driver Cleaner to remove all registry entries and old driver files. Then reinstall drivers.

Go to Windows Update and select custom scan. BUT, the generic default drivers are capable of running at least 60 in games with a high of 85 and you are only getting 40. Your desktop says 75 and the lowest it would fall back would be 60 when you switch to games. HL2 uses D3D so you could try overriding DirectX as a test to see if refresh rate is your problem. Open the DirectX utility (dxdiag). Click on More Help button > Override button Tick so checkmark is in front of override instead of default then enter either 75 or 85 in the box. Now try HL2 and see if you get higher FPS. IMPORTANT - do not go higher then 85 with the default monitor driver. Remember to set refresh rate back to Default in dxdiag after your test.

You could install IE again from the ie.inf that is in drive:\windows\inf folder. Might be easier to just use IEFix. -
Maybe try ATI Tray Tools as I hear it has a refresh lock in it. I think the ATI control panel has refresh lock too under monitor > video or something like that. Like I said before I do not use ATI card so I am not sure.

Could be power supply, ram or drivers as well as other things. TROUBLESHOOTING WINDOWS STOP MESSAGES Scroll down the page to find IRQL errors. Good Luck
-
Try turning off Vsync for games. In HL2 it is at Options > Video > Advanced >wait for vertical sync > disabled or enabled Maybe there is an option in your drivers control panel to do this as well. I do not use ATI so I have no idea.

What program does it list as not initializing? If the pop-up goes by too fast then it may also be logged in event viewer as an error. Start > Run > eventvwr.msc Then look under application or system for errors. Your problem could be spyware or virus related. If you post a Hijackthis log it may be helpful to see if this is the case.
