Give your system specifications. Most important is the graphics card. You can download program called Sandra lite and use it to find out more about your system. http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a The DirectX is on The Sims CD 1, in folder called DirectX. Execute dxsetup.exe and reboot your computer if required.

Do you have firewall enabled? Have you tried to add the game executable to firewall allowed programs or similiar list?

Do you have Windows 9x CDs anymore? If you do, try setup virtual pc / vmware environment and run the game in there. VMware Player and VMware Server are free and you can download them from: http://www.vmware.com/download/ -
Quote: http://www.auditmypc.com/process/wdfmgr.asp The wdfmgr.exe process is provides WDF (Windows Driver Foundation) compatibility to your computer. WDF is a technology that was developed by Microsoft to increase the overall stability of Windows device drivers. It is a core part of your operating system, and should be left running unless it is causing problems for your system. wdfmgr.exe is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing WDF Manager may adversly impact your system.

When you reinstall, disconnect the Internet access. Enable it after you have installed firewall (and antivirus). This way no unwanted processes can access the computer.

If Relic's fix does not work, try this: Click Start then Run. Type: cmd Type to prompt: %systemroot%\system32\logman query -ets Look for wmi, trace or related and note its name. (I don't have it enabled, so I cannot say what is its name...) Now type these, where <collection> is from previous command: First stop logging: logman stop <collection> Then delete the log: logman delete <collection>

1) Depends on game. 2) I like more offline games than online games. 3) Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (Note to self: get a new gfx card...). 4) Monthly fees on some, wow, online games. Because of it, I will never buy it or any other similiar to it. I prefer to buy game one time.

Create shortcut for the game executable. Right click it and select Properties. Click Compatibility tab. Try running the game in Windows 98/ME mode. Also, try up[censored] it via updater provided with the game.

The chkdsk requires autochk.exe file, which it tries to locate from c:\windows\system32. If it does not find it, then it should try to use it from XP CD. Try typing logon. It will list all detected Windowses and requests password for the Windows to log you on. Have you tried to recreate the boot diskettes?

Have you installed the .NET framework? Before you installed the drivers? -
Or get vmware, virtual pc, etc. Then install Windows 9x to it. No harddrive partitioning needed. You'll need to buy Windows 9x and virtual software of course. Free beta: http://www.vmware.com/products/server/
