"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)" = MBR, is it not? Try going back to recovery console and typing these (again): fixboot C: Boot sector written to the C: drive. fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0 Boot record re-written for the first disk drive.

My current configuration: /dev/hda1,(hd0,0),(40GB): Windows XP. /dev/hdb1,(hd1,0),(120GB): Fedora Core 4. I just used the default configuration which it offered to me. Renamed "other" to "Windows XP" and set it to default. Accepted. Now I get grub boot menu where are "Windows XP" and "Fedora Core 4 %kernelversion%".

I got those errors during my experiments on FC4 with xmms and mp3 files... Especially when pressing stop button the xmms crashed w/ segmentation fault. It seemed to have something to do with sound system, with the plugin (alsa or oss, do not remember anymore which I had on then) or other settings. I could hear constantly static popping from my speakers, when they were connected to addon sound card (creative). Buildin card was disabled. After battling with this, I decided to reinstall whole FC4. Now, during this installation I left the buildin on and when it got to sound test, sounds worked on both creative and buildin. Now I do not get any segmentation faults on xmms. I suggest that you check your xmms configuration for the mp3 plugin.

Try this: go into device manager, select the "Show hidden devices" option, go to "non plug and play device" find that device named "Beep" and set it to disabled. Reboot. Or get TweakUI and choose the General tab, and turn off the "Beep on Errors" option.

Quote: http://www.netguide.com.au/useful_stuff/helpdesk/showitem.php?id=914 You can’t. When opening the WAB address books, the file is left open for writing. A CD that is ‘read only’ will not allow you to do so. What you will have to do is copy the WAB file into your hard drive (say, the desktop) when you want to use it.

I installed FC4 DVD version on Sunday. Only problem was with framebuffering. I have not yet installed drivers for my Geforce. I am planning to install them with this guide: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html#nVidia

Have you changed the boot order in BIOS? Make sure that floppy drive is before than hard disk. Recommended order is floppy, cdrom and hdd. -

If the md5 checksum(s) is/are correct then try: When you are at the FC boot: prompt, press F2 - F4 to see addional commands for starting setup. For example, I had to use: linux resolution=1024x768 nofb, to get the graphical installer working right. Try running it with: linux pci=nosort <edit> I have successfully installed FC4 from DVD. Only problem was with framebuffer for some reason. </edit>

Try this: Quote: Set the Cryptographic Services to Automatic, and then try to install the program again. To set the Cryptographic Services to Automatic, follow these steps: 1. Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel. 2. Double-click Services. 3. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties. 4. Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start. Btw, do you have XP SP2 installed? SP2 does have DirectX 9.0c included.
