Have you tried running it in Windows' own compatiblity mode? (You'll need SP4) Click Start->Run. Type: regsvr32 %systemroot%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll Reboot. * Create a shortcut to the application and place the shortcut on the desktop. * Right-click the shortcut and click properties. * Select the compatibility tab * Check the Run in compatability mode checkbox * Select the OS you want to the application to think it is running under. <edit> And, the Apcompat.exe tool is located in the Support folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. Quote: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q251062/ Application Compatibility Program (Apcompat.exe) This program is designed to overcome the most common causes of application incompatibility with Windows 2000. You can use this tool with a Windows interface by running the Application Compatibility program, or you can run this program as a command-line tool. To use the Application Compatibility program, 1. Click Browse and specify the executable (.exe) file for the program you want to run. 2. Specify any of the Application Compatibility settings, and then click OK. Try those </edit>

Here is how I installed it. First put the RA CD on first CD/DVD drive. 1) On CD, there are folder named SETUP and there are dos version of the installer, install.exe. Launch it. 2) It'll start and then ask for sound card, I selected none. 3) Then it asks where to install. C:\WESTWOOD\RA 4) Files copied.... 5) After install go to where you installed it. 6) Create shortcut for RUNGAME.EXE. 7) Right-click the shortcut, and select Properties. 8) Select Compatiblity tab, select Windows 2000+Run in 256 colors+run in 640x480+disable visual themes+turn off advanced text service. OK. 9) Run game via shortcut.

Quote: Windows NT shipped with DirectX 2.0. Upgrading to Windows NT 4.0 service pack 3.0 will install DirectX 3.0. However there are no higher versions of DirectX available for Windows NT. Installing Service Pack 4 or higher will install later versions of DirectPlay however. If you want some tweaking, see dosfreak's post here: http://www.ntcompatible.com/One_more_-_DirectX_and_NT4_t28512.html

Well, Dudethatwantsff7towork: try creating shortcut to install application (not the autoplay application, autoplay.exe, or similiar) on the CD (install.exe, setup.exe, etc.) on your desktop. Rightclick the shortcut and select "Compatiblity" tab, then tick "Run this program in compatiblity mode for:" box. Try selecting "Windows 95" from the combobox. If that does not help, then try "Windows 98 / Windows ME".

Try dropping graphics settings in game and in NVIDIA control applet, like antialiasing, etc. How hot is your graphics card when this happens?

Wilhelmus replied to wtafel's topic in Everything New Technology
Why it does not update it? Any error messages? Like "cabinet can not be trusted"? After you try to install it, goto Event Viewer* and look for errors, warnings relating to Windows Installer in same day, hour. * Start->Run: eventvwr.msc -

Try running "sfc /scannow". 'Scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.' If this does not work, try backing up your files and doing repair installation of XP. -

Wilhelmus replied to francis22's topic in Games
Create shortcut for the game executable and select properties for the shortcut. Select Compatiblity tab. Try the Windows 98 compatiblity mode. <edit> I downloaded demo of this game and it worked fine on my XP box. Without any compatiblity mode/patch/etc. </edit> -
Computer doesn't recognise it can burn CDs all of a sudden.
Wilhelmus replied to swirl086's topic in Hardware
Before you reinstall the device try this: Open My Computer. Rightclick your CD-R(W) drive and select Properties, select tab named Recording. Tick "Enable CD recording on this drive", if it is not ticked. OK. If this does not help, then do as American Zombie suggested: On the Device Manager, open the "DVD/CD-ROM drives", then rightclick your CDR(w) drive and select "Uninstall". OK. Reboot. -
