The link to "Gta Vice City problem:\" causes 'corruption' of the page: http://ntcompatible.com/Gta_Vice_city_problem/_t30886.html Pictures do not work and the whole site on that page goes nuts. Like if I try to open "Norton Virus Definitions May 29" page from Latest Web News, I get: http://ntcompatible.com/Gta_Vice_city_problem/Norton_Virus_Definitions_May_29_2005_s48359.html. Etc. Most likely the "\" on the title causes this.

Download program called "hijack this" and post its log file here, so we can look at it.

When you install the audio package ("Audio driver for Windows 95/98 - ThinkPad 600E, 770X/Z") it will install files to: "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO". Use the supplied setup.exe to install the drivers. Or use the Windows' driver page to locate the 'cwcprops.cpl' file from "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO". The file is packed to "cwcprops.cp_" named file.

Try reinstalling it to shorter path and do not use spaces on it, like "C:\Magic6\". Then download this: ftp://ftp.sac.sk/pub/sac/pack/dshrnk16.zip Unzip it. And execute deshrink.exe. In to "Filename (Input)", select the mss32.dll from the folder you installed the game ("C:\Magic6"). Select DLLs, from the Files of type box. Then onto "Filename (output)", save the file as mss32. Check "unpack Shrinker 3.4". Click Decompress. Now goto to magic installation folder and rename the orginal mss32.dll to mss32.dll.bak and the mss32.(no extension) file to mss32.dll. Then, if this works but the game does not start (different error message), click Start->Run. Type "dxdiag". Goto Sound tab, drag the "Hardware Sound Acceleration level to far left, "No accleration".

What DirectX you have installed? 9.0c? Check the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Start->Run: "dxdiag") and under Display see that "Direct3D Acceleration" is Enabled. Not Disabled or grayed out.

Take the system off from the network and scan it with tools suggested by jmmijo. And Hijack this' log file + Google can help to find out what process(es) is/are causing this. And try Stinger.

Quote: 1) Ensure that the "Cryptographic Services" service is running on your computer. To do this, open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Select "Cryptographic Services" from the list of names. Right-click this service and select Properties. If the service is not shown as "Started", you can start it by clicking the Start button. You should also set the Startup type to Automatic so that it will be running when needed in future. Close the Services control panel and try installing the service pack or security patch. 2) If the "Cryptographic Services" service was already running, stop the service by clicking the Stop button, then using Windows Explorer, locate the folder C:/Windows/System32/catroot2 and rename it to something like xcatroot. Now restart "Cryptographic Services" by clicking the Start button, and try installing the directx. 3) If the directx still fails to install, stop the "Cryptographic Services" service again. Open a command prompt window (click Start, Run, type "cmd", without quotes and hit Enter) and then type the following commands: regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 dssenh.dll regsvr32 rsaenh.dll regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 sccbase.dll regsvr32 slbcsp.dll regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll Restart "Cryptographic Services" by clicking the Start button again. For 16-bit subsystem error, try solution from my sig. -
On memtest, one error is too much. Let it run for couple hours, like over night. Test the sticks one by one. To 'install' memtest, download the ISO file from the website on American Zombie's post, burn it to CD, set CD/DVD to primary booting device in BIOS, boot from memtest CD. You can use free Deep Burner to do this: http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download

Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced. Click the Monitor tab, and then click the screen refresh rate that you want to use.

If you do have service pack 4, try this: Click Start -> Run. Type "regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll", without quotes. Then create shortcut for the executable. Right click the shortcut, select "Properties" (last entry in the context menu). You see a tab "Compatibility". Click the checkbox to activate the compatibilty mode, set it to Windows 95 (in the dropdown menu). Try running it.
