It downloads a bit and after 3 minutes it appears a message "not found cabinet file - could not be trusted" something like that. Mak sure you are downloading it from microsoft.com. Quote: 1) Ensure that the "Cryptographic Services" service is running on your computer. To do this, open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Select "Cryptographic Services" from the list of names. Right-click this service and select Properties. If the service is not shown as "Started", you can start it by clicking the Start button. You should also set the Startup type to Automatic so that it will be running when needed in future. Close the Services control panel and try installing the service pack or security patch. 2) If the "Cryptographic Services" service was already running, stop the service by clicking the Stop button, then using Windows Explorer, locate the folder C:/Windows/System32/catroot2 and rename it to something like xcatroot. Now restart "Cryptographic Services" by clicking the Start button, and try installing the directx. 3) If the directx still fails to install, stop the "Cryptographic Services" service again. Open a command prompt window (click Start, Run, type "cmd", without quotes and hit Enter) and then type the following commands: regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 dssenh.dll regsvr32 rsaenh.dll regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 sccbase.dll regsvr32 slbcsp.dll regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll Restart "Cryptographic Services" by clicking the Start button again. Then try reinstalling directx.

Step by step. 1) Click Start, then Run. 2) Enter "services.msc" without quotes, Ok. 3) Locate "HID Input Service" or "Human Interface Device Access" service. Double click it. 4) Set the startup type to "Automatic" from the compobox. 5) Click "Start" button. 6) OK and exit services application. And one thing you can check is the Event Viewer, look if there are Error and/or Warning entries. Click Start -> Run : "eventvwr.msc". While surfing on other forums, another solution is to buy device called USB port hub. Like "Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub" from Belkin. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Product_Id=198333

Can you test the mouse on another system? Is the Human Interface Device (HID) service enabled, set to automatic/manual and running in Services (services.msc). Look for HID in service name. In the Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > USB Root Hub > Power Management. Uncheck all boxes on all root hubs.

no sound when playing streaming mdia with mplayer-plugin
Wilhelmus replied to iamroot's topic in Linux Software
If you do not have solution yet, try downloading one qt movie and try playing it via console (mplayer ~/movie.mov). Are there any error messages? Where are your codecs located, in /usr/local/lib/codecs/ ? And, see/try this: http://home.comcast.net/~mikemehl/FC/fc1.html, scroll to "mplayer dlls" section. -

Backup/Resote + MBR issue with Norton Ghost
Wilhelmus replied to captain neenaw's topic in Everything New Technology
Backup your files first You could get rid of the Linux boot loader (lilo, grub) using Windows 98/ME boot diskette and executing "fdisk /mbr" at command prompt. This will rewrite the Master Boot Record (MBR) to boot from the primary (D)OS partition. You may also need to run fdisk to specify the new active partition to boot. Then in XP, you can use the disk management to removed linux partitions and format them to use with XP. <edit> typos </edit> -
OK. Snails are faster than ADSL.

Connecting to my computer in the office from home
Wilhelmus replied to Exxccessive's topic in Networking
You could use Virtual Private Network (VPN) between home and office PCs.This system use encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized user(s) can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted. [size:1]Image courtesy Cisco Systems, Inc.[/color] Quote: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/vpn.htm Basically, a VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from the company's private network to the remote site or employee. In this article, you will gain a fundamental understanding of VPNs, and learn about basic VPN components, technologies, tunneling and security. -
IE Browser Proxy & Exception Settings
Wilhelmus replied to edisonlivica's topic in Everything New Technology
No, but you can define the proxy setting in Group Policy for your network. --- In Windows 2003 Server, this is located in "User Configuration\ Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection". Navigate to the "Active Directory Users and Computers". Right click the Domain object, Properties, Group Policy (Tab) now 'click' the edit (button) and you will see the policy settings.
