Installing Windows 2000 on a newly Fdisk'ed Hard Drive
Wilhelmus replied to m_phoenix83's topic in Everything New Technology
Remove everything that is installed or connected to your computer so the only things remaining in the case are: Motherboard, processor, PSU, and cooling fan (of course). Cables. Graphics card. One stick of RAM (at least 128 MB). One hard drive. One CDROM/DVD drive. +Monitor, keyboard, mouse. (+Device(s) which you cannot remove.) If the installation success, add other devices one by one and test your system for while. Do not install all at the same time. -

URGENT Spyware that hides from all forms of detection
Wilhelmus replied to CaptainCHeerios's topic in Security
This is for XP PROfessional. Download Adaware, Spybot - Search and Destroy, Stinger and program called LSPFix. Update Adaware and Spybot -S&D. Adaware:http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Spybot:http://security.kolla.de/ Stinger:http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ LSPFix:http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm First: You should use Group Policy to enhance the environment settings, adding power to the available file operations. To do so: 1) Click Start, click Run, type "gpedit.msc" 2) Click Local Computer, click Finish, and then click Close to return to the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box. 3) Click OK to return to the Console window. 4) Expand the Local Computer Policy object to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options. 5) Select the Security Options object in the Console pane to display the security policies in the Details pane. 6) In the Details pane, double-click the "Recovery Console: Allow Floppy Copy And Access To All Drives And Folders" policy. 7) Click Enabled, and then click OK. 8) Quit the MMC. Now: To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, use the following steps: 1) Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. 2) Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so. 3) When you're prompted to press F6 for mass storage devices - press F10 instead. This will automatically start the Recovery Console. 3.1) Alternatively, when the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. 4) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console. 5) When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER. Now: Type: set AllowAllPaths = TRUE set AllowRemovableMedia = TRUE For the prompt, change your path to windows\system32. For example, if your are in "C:\" , type: cd windows\system32 Make sure you are in your system32 folder. Then type del rlrmvr.exe. This will delete the file. Remove XP CD and type exit to reboot your PC. Physically unplug from Internet (unplug modem cable, turn of adsl modem, etc.) Now boot into safe mode. Run hijackthis, scan. Fix these. Have you tried to run repair installation for server 2k3? Do you see blue flash when the computer restarts? Can you load it in safe mode?
-
Something like this: 1.) Left click on desktop, click on properties; 2.) Click on Settings tab, click on Advanced; 3.) Click on GeForce XXXX tab; 4.) Click on Nview Display Settings; 5.) Right click on the TV displayed in the picture; 6.) Hold arrow over Select TV Format, and click on Advanced at the very bottom of pop-up menu; 7.) In the Video output format change it from Auto-Select to S-Video-Out, and then Apply.

Can you give the complete error message? Have you tried to uninstall it in safe mode?
-
Well, you can try this: 1) Get somewhere Windows 98 boot diskette (bootdisk.com). 2) Then boot with it. 3) Execute at command prompt: fdisk /mbr. 4) Try boot into Windows. This should force Windows to 'forget' drive assignments. No promises, though. <edit> Oh, and you MUST use Windows 98 fdisk. Windows XP recovery console's fixmbr does not work. </edit>

Copy autoexec.nt and config.nt files from c:\windows\repair to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. And upgrade your anti ad/spy/mal/ware virus programs, cause some old versions of those can cause this corruption. -

Have you checked the HOSTS. file? ("C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\") It needs only contain Quote: 127.0.0.1 localhost -
What are your system specs? Does your Device Manager have problematic entries? (Ones with yellow ! and/or red X) Have you tried to update your motherboard / chipset drivers? Have you installed DirectX 9.0©? Install/update AGP drivers before you install card. Try checking in the system information (Click Start->Run: "msinfo32") utility in the hardware resources/conflicts section to see if there are any conflicts. Disable onboard video card from BIOS. And if you have sound card, disable onboard sound card. Set "AGP Aperture" size in the BIOS to maximum value or equal to your card memory (64MB,128MB,etc). Ensure the following are set to AUTO in BIOS: "PnP/PCI Configurations->Resources Controlled by" "PnP/PCI Configurations->Allocate IRQ to Video" Or something like those. Also, try this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_13957.html And try uninstalling any old drivers for old graphics card, before you install new ones. For XP: Go into your System Properties and go to the Advanced tab. Hit Settings for Performance Options and go to the Advanced tab. Change Memory Usage from System Cache to Programs.

It seems that, lately, there have been posting to old threads (some have been years old). The forum would automatically lock/close old threads e.g. after n weeks/months(/years), so the mod(s) do not freak out...

Go to discreet's support site http://www.discreet.com/support/max/ and download the patches and make sure to get the latest version of cdilia. http://www.discreet.com/support/max/faq/answer.php3?prod=dddstudio&id=479 http://www.discreet.com/support/max/faq/answer.php3?prod=dddstudio&id=1191 http://www.discreet.com/support/max/faq/answer.php3?prod=dddstudio&id=1094 And make sure that your account have read/write access to C:\_DILLA folder... Quote: http://www.discreet.com/support/max/faq/answer.php3?prod=dddstudio&id=860 Question: Are versions of 3ds max that were released prior to 3ds max 5 supported on Microsoft® Windows® XP Home or Professional? Answer: This document describes what you need to do to get 3ds max running in this environment. 3ds max will not run after installing on either the Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional operating system. The 3ds max license will not import or export from Windows XP. Solution: Microsoft Windows XP was not officially supported for 3ds max until the availability of 3ds max 5. However, we have not yet determined any specific problem running 3ds max 2.5 or higher on a Windows XP system. The licensing system shipped with these earlier versions of 3ds max must be upgraded. For 3ds max 4.0 through 4.2.6, (version 4.3 does not require an update), you must upgrade the C-Dilla licensing software. Go to http://www.discreet.com/support/max/download to get the latest version of the C-Dilla Standalone License Manager software from the 3ds max support download page. For 3ds max 2.5 through 3ds max 3.1, you must upgrade the Sentinel SuperPro Hardware Lock drivers from the Download section of the Rainbow site at http://www.rainbow.com <edit> more stuff </edit>

I got an old school question on starcraft and dual computers!
Wilhelmus replied to fod's topic in Games
I have seen sometimes Windows Firewall will block/ask about connection(s), even when you have installed 3rd party firewall. In ZoneAlarm (Pro), there is option to disable Windows Firewall. I did not see option of that kind in my Sygate Personal Firewall Pro. ( x3 ) -
XP SP2 loop due to bad video drivers - HELP!
Wilhelmus replied to woogie's topic in Everything New Technology
In the WinXP SP2, bootup menu (F8), there should be option to disable automatic reboot. Check if your does have it. "Disable automatic restart on system failure" or words to that effect. Then you should be able to see what BSOD you get.
