He meaned that you use your XP CD to boot up your computer. The CD/DVD needs to be first booting device, configured via BIOS. And when the "Windows XP Professional Setup" window displays, select "R" for Recovery Console. You will be prompted to select the Windows installation to repair (usually "1" ). Enter Administrator password when required. Then you'll get to command prompt, "C:\>". At the command prompt write chkdsk /p /r and press Enter. When you want to reboot and exit Recovery Console, type exit and press Enter.

What advantages if any does Windows 2000 SP4 have over WinXP SP2?
Wilhelmus replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
XPSP2. IMHO. Windows 2000 does not include a wireless configuration utility. That means you have two choices for establishing a manual connection: One) option is to download "sniffer" software, that detects wifi connections for you. Second) option is to use the software either provided by your OEM or wireless card manufacturer to help setup and manage your wireless profiles. Software for managing a WiFi network adapter from other vendors, than XP's, can show you the signal strength of a network that is not broadcasting its SSID and that you are not connected to. Good for troubleshooting. -
Quote: it doesnt recognize it... in other computer neither... If the other computer(s) does not recognize it, then the device is most likely malfunction. If the device's warranty is still valid, take it back to place where you bought it and replace it with new.

Is this for local computer? E.g. not in domain? If it is then: Login with Administrator. To create new account: 1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel. 2. Click Create a new account. 3. Type a name for the new user account, and then click Next. 4. Click Computer administrator or Limited, depending on the type of account you want to assign to the new user, and then click Create Account. To delete old account: Goto Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Choose the old account you want to delete -> Click Delete the account -> If you want to remove all account files click Delete files -> Then Delete Account. If this is for (2003) server, then someone other, who is more experienced with server management can help you more than I...

"Could not write value" when starting some games
Wilhelmus replied to AlbertoCastillo2001's topic in Games
And one thing you can try: start registry editor, start->run: regedit.exe Then right-click on every HKEY_* key, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and select "Permissions" or whatever it is called in your XP, its below Export item. Make sure that Administrators and SYSTEM have write&read rights on every root key. -
1) Boot into Safe Mode and uninstall all of the entries for CDROM/DVD drives. Reboot. If does not help, then move to 2. 2) Again in Safe Mode uninstall the Primary IDE Controller & Secondary IDE Controller. Reboot.

"Could not write value" when starting some games
Wilhelmus replied to AlbertoCastillo2001's topic in Games
Have you tried the DirectX Diagnostic Tool? Start->Run: dxdiag.exe See if it reports any errors. Then goto to display tab and click all "Enable" buttons, if there is any. Then try to test DirectDraw & Direct3D. If those fail, try reinstalling DirectX & display drivers. -
Check the jumper setting.

"Could not write value" when starting some games
Wilhelmus replied to AlbertoCastillo2001's topic in Games
Is your account administrator? You probably need sufficient privileges to run the games. Make sure that the account of your has administrative rights on the machine. Click Start->Run and execute, without quotes: "control userpasswords2" OK. Doubleclick your account. Then goto second tab "group" or something like that. Select "Other" and select "Administrators" from the list. -
Originally posted by aaBlueDragon: Quote: this isnt my problem, i allready fixed the sound problems, i play it with sound, but without music, because i dont see music options in the setup.exe file Ahh.. sorry. My bad. That's... kinda wierd... Quote: http://www.deathmask.net/buildxp/ Step 8 - Set up the games correctly You will be at the Main Menu of the Setup program. Sound Setup will be highlighted since it is the first option on the menu. Press enter to go to Sound Setup. The first and most important options you will want to change are found here. Select Choose Sound FX Card. Select Sound Blaster. This will take you to Sound Blaster Configuration. The correct address is 0x220. This should be the default address so you should not have to change it. Move to Change Sound Card Type using the down arrow key and press enter. Select Sound Blaster 16 or AWE32. Select Change Interrupt. Select IRQ 7. You should not have to modify the 8-bit or 16-bit DMA unless you've changed them since their default values of 1 and 5, respectively, are correct. Select Use These Settings and Continue. There will now be several consecutive dialogs that you must go through. In the first one you will select the highest number of voices possible. In the second, select the highest number of mixing bits. In the third, select Stereo sound. In the fourth, select the highest mixing rate. You will automatically be taken back to Sound Setup after selecting the mixing rate. Now, select Choose Music Card. Select General Midi then select MIDI port 0x330. Do not test either the Sound FX or Music within Setup. Neither will work correctly yet. Try downloading demo and see if it have same issue as your SW package.

Similiar thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread17230-1.html Try those.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. 2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager to view what is listed under the Computer branch. As an example, "Standard PC", the detected computer type Windows 2000 installed on your computer, or an entry such as "Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI) PC" may be listed. (This should be ACPI...) 3. To change the installed computer type, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Drivers. NOTE: You can only change or update your HAL from Device Manager under Computer Type when changing from a Standard PC HAL to a Standard Multiprocessor PC HAL, because changing from an ACPI HAL to a Standard HAL can result in your not being able to start your computer. Or: The APM tab is present in the Power Options tool in Control Panel, but it is not enabled by default. To configure this option: 1. In Control Panel, double-click Power Options. 2. On the APM tab, click Enable Advanced Power Management Support. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242414/EN-US/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q216573/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237556

Please Help - Getting duplicated tasbar items
Wilhelmus replied to Auskalo's topic in Everything New Technology
This is not "instant" forum. Most of this forum members do have a life outside of this forum. Well, does this happen on all users or just on your account? What OS you got? 2000? XP? For XP, there is one solution for similiar problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321213 -
Do you load the SATA drivers from floppy disk when Setup starts? Also, try replacing the cable. And, what kinda memory sticks you got? If those are incompatible with motherboard or other memory sticks it can cause problems. Try running the installation only with CDROM, HDD, FDD, 1 memory stick (more or equal 256 MB), graphics card, mouse and keyboard installed. Remvove other devices(sound card, modem, nic, etc.) while installing, if you success in installation then add those devices one by one and let Windows install drivers for those.

First plug power cable, then wait about 10 seconds to it power on, before plugging the usb cable in. What error you got? What OS you got? XP?
