I have SP2 with all updates released to this day and I have no problems downloading files from internet. My browser is firefox though... ( If you mean p2p programs like kazaa, dc, then you need to configure your firewall to allow those programs to access internet. ) Quote: If you want to save them? Catch them as they are forming in the WUTemp folder (usually, this forms on the disk as you are doing windows update on the disk you have with the MOST freespace on it... if you only have 1 harddisk? It will be C:\WUTemp The WUTemp folder is in "new" windows update (v5) "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download" folder. Or what? At least the new wupdate does not create "%drive%:\wutemp" folder. And it leaves "C:\Program Files\Windows Update" folder empty.

Then the card should be compatible. Before you start Vice city, go to Start->Run and execute "Drwatson", this will start Dr. Watson diagnostic tool. Perhaps you can use its log file to find out the complete error message. Quote: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q275481 When Dr. Watson is enabled, an icon is displayed on the taskbar. If a program fault occurs, Dr. Watson generates a snapshot of the software environment. Click the Details button in the error message box to view the information gathered by Dr. Watson. To generate a log file, double-click the Dr. Watson icon on the taskbar. Dr. Watson gathers information about the operating system, and then a Dr. Watson dialog box is displayed. When Dr. Watson is loaded, click any tab to move out of the text box. The Dr. Watson window closes if you press ENTER. To view the advanced tabs in Dr. Watson, follow these steps: 1. Double-click the Dr. Watson icon. 2. On the View menu, click Advanced View. The following tabs provide detailed information about your system that you can give to a support technician: • System: Includes information that you would see on the General tab of System Properties. • Tasks: Includes information about the tasks that were running when the snapshot was taken. This tab also includes information about the program, the version, the manufacturer, the description, the path, the type, and the program that this program is related to (when this information is available). • Startup: Includes information about the programs that are configured to load during Startup. This tab includes the program name, and information about where the program was loaded from, and the command line that is used to load the program. • Kernel Drivers: Includes information about where the Kernel-mode drivers are installed, including the name of the driver, the version, the manufacturer, the description, the likely path, information about where the driver is loaded from, the type of driver, and the program that the driver related to (when information is available). • User Drivers: Includes information about the User-mode drivers that are installed, including the name of the driver, the version, the manufacturer, the description, the likely path, the type of driver, and the program that the driver is related to (when information is available). • MS-DOS Drivers: Includes information about the MS-DOS drivers that are installed. • 16-bit Modules: Includes information about the 16-bit modules that were in memory when the snapshot was taken, including the name of the module, the version, the manufacturer, the description, the likely path, the type of driver, and the program that the driver is related to (when information is available). • Details (this tab is only displayed when Dr. Watson has captured a fault): Lists the events that occurred before and during the fault, in progressive order. If you experience a program fault, and you want to use Dr. Watson, follow these steps: 1. Try to reproduce the fault to verify that it is not a random failure. 2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click System Tools. 3. Click System Information, and then on the Tools menu, click Dr. Watson. 4. Reproduce the fault. 5. Click Details in the Program Fault window. 6. View the Diagnosis window to determine the source of the fault. If the issue is intermittent or not easy to reproduce, put Dr. Watson in your Startup folder so that it is always running. The Dr. Watson dialog box includes a text box that you can use to enter information about what you were doing when the issue occurred. You should provide information about the programs that were running, and the steps that resulted in the program fault. NOTE: After you type the information in the text box, on the File menu, click Save or Save As to save the file. If you only click OK in the Dr. Watson dialog box, the information that you enter in the text box is not saved. When a program fault occurs, the Dr. Watson log file is automatically named Watsonxxx.wlg (where xxx is an incremented number). By default, Dr. Watson log files are saved to the \Windows\Drwatson folder. To save the information generated by Dr. Watson, click Save on the File menu.

Greetings and welcome. Championship Manager 2 aka Championship Manager 00/01. Quote: Eidos General CM FAQ. ... Q18. Can't run cm2 series on XP or 2k A18. If you only have NTFS partitions on your hard drive, then create a small FAT32 partition, insert a Windows 98SE bootdisk and load the game up from there. Also required are DOS mouse drivers (you may have a problem if you have a USB mouse), which will have to be loaded up each time you wish to play unless you amend the autoexec.bat file. Failing that, the trickier option is to install and configure a DOS emulator. ... I recommend Dosbox for DOS emulator. Also download D-Fend for easier configuration for your DOS games.

Do not double post. Quote: Q: I have a Voodoo Rush based video card (i.e. Intergraph Intense Voodoo 3D, Hercules Stingray 128/3D, etc...); an ATi video card; an Intel i810 onboard video chip or a Trident chipset based video card in my system. When I launch the game, I receive the error, "Direct Draw Error DDERR_UNSUPPORTED in file D:\MM7\MM7\Code\Screen16.cpp at line number: 2669" and the game goes not run. How can I get the game to work with my Voodoo Rush/ATi/Intel i810/Trident card? A: You can do it manually by following the steps listed below to correct the problem: Click on the "Start" button, choose "Run", then type in the following command: "Regedit." Then click on "OK." Go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\New World Computing\Might and Magic VII\1.0" folder. Double-click on the "2dacceloff" setting (second from the top). Change the Value Data setting to "1," then click "OK." Exit the Registry Editor and start the game.

This seems to be graphics driver/card issue. Quote: ati2dvag.dll First, try to update your ATI drivers. Or if that does not help: download latest drivers, start in safe mode, uninstall current drivers, install new drivers. Second, check your memory modules for errors with memtest86.

I would suspect the Norton av is slowing you down, but you say it is deactived, so... The more programs you start with Windows, the more slower it will start. What if you defrag your harddrive(s)? Start->Run, execute "dfrg.msc". or: Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Defragmenter Also check your system for spy/adware and viruses.

XP login Page Corrupt or completely gone?!.......
Wilhelmus replied to awacs alaska's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I can offer two possible solutions. Try the first before you try the second. 1) REG.HACK In your WinXP bootup menu (F8), you should see something like "Start with Command Prompt". Try starting it. If you get command prompt, execute: "regedit". Go to this key in regedit: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon". Entry named "UIHost" should have value "logonui.exe". Entry name "Userinit" should have value "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,". If your Windows directory is different change it. Note! The last character in the string is comma! ("C:\YOUR_WINDOWS_DIR_HERE\system32\userinit.exe,") Reboot and see if that helped. 2) REPAIR INSTALLATION Boot with XPCD and when you get to "Windows XP Professional Setup" and press Enter. Agree the license (F8) and press "R" for repair. If you do not see the option to repair the selected Windows XP installation, DO NOT continue installing without repairing as that will overwrite your data. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. When the setup has completed you should find all of your previously installed apps and settings are intact. --- Quote: I don't can't remember the admin password to my computer. http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm --- Good luck -
The software you try to start is ATI Multimedia Center? Have you tried up[censored] it? http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html If you use XP and your ATI MC is earlier than version 7.6, you'll need to update it. Have you tried install the ATI MC software before you plug'n'pray your card? Remove the card from system, then remove its drivers and software(MC), reinstall MC, plug the card into system.

Any1 know where I can find PCI multimedia audio device driver?
Wilhelmus replied to Kriscoast's topic in Legacy OS
First, download freeware EVEREST Home Edition from Lavalys. Install and start it. When it is started, from the left panel select "Multimedia", then "PCI/PnP Audio". On the right panel you should see your sound card(s) descriptions. Then use Google to find drivers for it. -
Quote: 1002 ... This port's apparent association with Microsoft's ICS (Internet connection sharing) was discovered empirically by noticing that only people who were using ICS had this port open, and that everyone who was using ICS (and necessarily NetMeeting), without any additional external protection, had this port open and exposed to the Internet ... http://grc.com/port_1002.htm and http://grc.com/port_1720.htm Try disabling the ICS service. Also, does the Sygate firewall have option do disallow/block certain ports? If it does, block those ports, if that helps.

Disable the "NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing" service from Start->Run->"services.msc".

Well, try run it on compatiblity mode. Quote: Wow, i can't believe it but i was able to play this game on xp! I had the same problems as they were posted: farewell to my life, farewell to my family... and then it stopped responding BUT i tried installing it with windows 98/me compatible and to run it with 98/me compatible (you have that choice in the right click preferences-compatibility) and then i've found out that it doesn't recognize my sound card (creative sb extigy) so i unplugged it and used my default sound (yamaha) and there you go - it worked!!! (and i even finished the game - just to make sure that it works all the way ) Or remove win Xp, partition your hard drive to two partitions, install win 98/me to 1. partition and then install win xp to 2. partition. And then install the game to win98/me partition.
