http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305098/EN-US/ Quote: Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and earlier versions of Windows 2000 do not support 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) as defined in the ATA/ATAPI 6.0 specification. So, if you are using Service Pack 4, there should be no this limit any more.

Also check that your hard drive is not running in PIO mode. Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers->Primary IDE Channel / Secondary IDE Channel. Click Extended Settings and change the setting from 'PIO only' to 'DMA when available', if it is in PIO. In XP, there should be no need to reboot computer.

You could try to copy autoexec.nt and config.nt files from C:\Winnt\Repair to C:\Winnt\System32 (Or from C:\Windows, if it is your Windows folder).

Check that Auto DNS is set to yes in /etc/wvdial.conf and it is not commented out. Auto DNS = yes Save and then redial. Or you could try to add your ISP's dns servers to /etc/resolv.conf Code: nameserver 64.40.40.53nameserver 66.54.140.10

ACER Travelmate 3210 laptop installation problem
Wilhelmus replied to balajipg's topic in Everything Linux
Hi, see this: Ubuntu Linux on Acer TravelMate 3210. Quote: The only thing needing a bit tweaking is the X server: the LCD screen stays blank until you insert Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,NONE" in the Device section of your xorg.conf, assuming the open-source ati.o driver is used. Anyway, right now you should have a desktop in the front of you When you are in the console, type: sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf Find correct section and edit it. Then press CTRL+O, to WriteOut. CTRL+X, to exit. CTRL+G, for help. If you make a error, just restore the backup: sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf And try again. -
Try running: wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf as root in terminal. "This will identify the port your modem is on, establish an initialization string for your modem and save the results in the /etc/wvdial.conf directory." Then edit /etc/wvdial.conf to reflect your settings.

Download program called PC Wizard 2006. http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php Install and start it. On System Summary, there should be Video Card item and next to it is Description. That is name of your video card. Report back with name of video card and motherboard/mainboard/chipset, so we can look for correct drivers.

While you wait... I installed IPX/SPX to Vista, but I am unable to config it and I am not sure if it even works... (I dualboot with XP and Vista, so if you do not, you'll have to expand the files from XP CD.) YOU DO THIS IN YOUR OWN RISK. If you do this, take backups. Requires: MS Windows XP (SP2): 1) Create new folder named 'temp' to root of your Vista drive ( C: ). Copy the following files from XP (or expand from XP CD) installation: Windows\System32\drivers\nwlnkipx.sys Windows\System32\drivers\nwlnkflt.sys Windows\System32\drivers\nwlnkfwd.sys Windows\System32\drivers\nwlnknb.sys Windows\System32\drivers\nwlnkspx.sys Windows\System32\rtipxmib.dll Windows\System32\wshisn.dll Windows\System32\nwprovau.dll (Following folder is hidden) Windows\inf\netnwlnk.inf Windows\inf\netnwlnk.pnf to C:\Temp, and to corresponding Vista folders. 2) Control Panel->Network Center->Manage network connections. Right-click your LAN connection and select Properties. Click Install..., select Protocol and click Add... The NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS protocol may be listed on the Network Protocol list. DO NOT SELECT IT. Click Have Disk... Browse to C:\Temp. Select netnwlnk.inf. Click OK. Select NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS from the list. Vista will tell you that the publisher could not be verified. Click Install. If all goes well, the protocol should be now installed. Restart computer. If this works, tell me. If it doesn't... wait if the driver is officially released. Good luck <edit> I copied the file from Finnish XP, so the protocol name in picture is different

Why you are using old Fedora Core 2, when there is newer Fedora Core 5? It (may) have better driver support.
