FC5 / WinXP DualBoot 2HDs Grub won't load

I take you are meaning: system-config-boot? It was not installed by default to my FC5, I used yum install system-config-boot to get it. Requires Internet access. If your Internet is not yet working: Insert Fedora DVD to drive and it should automount it and start whatever file browser you are using. If not, doubleclick the 'FC/5 i386' dvd image on your desktop. Then browse to Fedora/RPMS/. Start typing system-config-boot. And it should search and select it(system-config-boot-0.2.11-1.2.i386.rpm). Rightclick it and select 'Open with "Software Installer". Enter your root user password. It should be now installed. If you are using GNOME, select GNOME menu->System->Administration->Bootloader. Boot Configuration should start. -
Try these: For installation issue: Quote: 1) First thing to try is to check the DVD for scratches or marks and clean. 2) Try renaming the InstallShield folder. Double-click on the My Computer icon. Double-Click on the C: Double-Click on Program Files then on Common Files. Right-Click on the InstallShield folder. Select Rename. Rename it to InstallShieldOld. Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version. If that doesn't work try a copying the files to your hard drive and installing from there. 3) FOR DVD: Insert the DVD into the DVD-rom drive. Exit the startup menu when it comes up. Double click My Computer, then right click on the DVD-rom drive with the game DVD in it and select Explore. Hold the CTRL key and then hit A. That should select all the folders and files. Then hold CTRL and hit C. This will not look like it does much, but it's preparing to copy the files. Close that folder and go to your desktop. Right click anywhere BUT on an icon, and Select New, then Folder. Name the folder 'Sims2 DVD'. Then double-click that folder, and hit CTRL and V. This will begin copying the files from the DVD. Once the files are copied, remove the disc from the drive. Double-click on the Setup icon in the folder. You may delete the 'Sims2 DVD' folder once the installation is complete. And for the 'Please insert the correct DVD-ROM' error, try downloading latest DVD patch from EA: http://thesims2.ea.com/update/

First put the RA CD on first CD/DVD drive. 1) On RA CD, there are folder named SETUP and there are dos version of the installer, install.exe. Launch it. 2) It'll start and then ask for sound card, I selected none. 3) Then it asks where to install. C:\WESTWOOD\RA 4) Files copied.... 5) After install go to where you installed it. 6) Download 1.08 patch. http://www.sharoma.com/ral/files/ra108usp.exe. 7) Copy the patch file ("ra108usp.exe") to your RA folder ("c:\westwood\redalert"). 8) Doubleclick the patch file to start file extracting. 9) Now, on the folder there should be file named "patch.exe". Doubleclick it. 10) Wait while it patches RA. Dos screen will appear for while. Let it finish. 11) Now you have patched the game, create shortcut for file named "RA95.exe". Rightclick the shortcut and select Properties. Click Compatiblity tab. Apply following compatiblity settings to shortcut: Windows 95, 256 colors, 640x480, Disable themes and turn off advanced text services. 12) Done, launch the game by using this shortcut.

You can get the Windows 95 boot disk image from: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm If you have physical floppy drive, just insert blank floppy to drive and run the exe. If you do not have physical floppy drive: 1) Install WinRar. 2) Download boot diskette image. 3) Right-click it and extract the file. Ignore the error. 4) Copy the .IMA file to your virtual machine's folder. 5) In Vmware, select your virtual machine and doubleclick the floppy drive icon from the devices list. 6) Click Use floppy image. And Browse… button. Select All Files. Select the copied .IMA file. OK. Insert 95 CD to drive and start vm. It should start from the floppy (either from real or virtual) drive. Select CD-Rom support from the list. Now you'll need to partition the virtual hard drive. Use fdisk, to do it. When done, restart the vm. And when back on the prompt, use format to format your virtual partition(s). When formatted, start setup from CD. For example: D:\setup.exe.

What sound card you got? Built-in or PCI card? If you do not know, get SiSoft Sandra Lite. Install and start it. Click Hardware tab, then double-click Audio Devices. It should display your sound card. When you know what card you got, head to card's manufacturer home page and search for driver. If you do not find them, post back and we try to help you more.

You got Windows XP most likely. What service pack level? SP2 should include 9.0c. This is latest DX redist (includes all those dlls which are not in the 'orginal' DX9 redist...): DirectX End-User Runtimes June 2006. When you run the DX installer, see if get DirectX.log in your Windows folder. If there is, copy it's contents to http://pastebin.com/ and post link to here. IMHO, get more RAM. 1GB should be enough these days.

I have tried to install Apache 2.0.54 to Windows XP Service Pack 2, but always I get the error: "Installation Wizard Interrupted. The Installation Wizard was interrupted before Apache HTTP Server 2.0.54 could be completely installed." After googling found suggestions: 1) clean temp folders. Done. 2) remove old registery entries. Done, none found. (I have not installed Apache to this system before.) 3) Check permissions on the installation folder. Done. Everyone, SYSTEM, Users, Administrators and my account have Full rights. 4) Set Installer service to automatic. Done. 5) Update Installer. Cannot, already using the latest version of it, updated via Windows Update. No effect. Same error. My Event Viewer is flooding with Event IDs 11708: "Product: Apache HTTP Server 2.0.54 -- Installation operation failed.". These are not marked as "Error" or "Warning". Just "Information". <edit> Tried to install 2.0.53. Same error. </edit> <edit 2> The 2.0.50 installed without problems... Weird. Anyway, back conf'n. </edit 2> [Edited by Wilhelmus on 2005-05-19 10:08:00]

Open the disk images folder. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder. Name this folder Disk1. Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2 and so on until there are 4 'Disk' folders followed by a number 1 through 4. it is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number. Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it. Go into My Computer. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose Open. When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All. All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy. Open the Disk1 folder you created under C: Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder. Repeat steps 9 through 14 for the remaining disks until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder. Once all the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives. Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation. To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation is complete. FOR DVD: Insert the DVD into the DVD-rom drive. Exit the startup menu when it comes up. Double click My Computer, then right click on the DVD-rom drive with the game DVD in it and select Explore. Try running it in dosbox. If you have already installed RA, skip 6-11. And change the "c:\games" to your red alert installation folder. 1) Install dosbox 0.65 (dosbox.sourceforge.net). 2) Create folder where you want install RA. Like "c:\games". In dosbox, this is your C drive. 3) Go to where you installed dosbox, open dosbox.conf and find memsize. Change it to memsize=64. Find cycles=3000, change it to cycles=20000. Find [autoexec] section and type following to it: Quote: [autoexec] # Lines in this section will be run at startup. mount c YOUR FOLDER HERE (c:\games) mount d YOUR CDROM:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl Now you do not need type those every time you start it. Save the file and close. 4) Place RA CD to first cdrom/dvd drive. 5) Start dosbox.exe. 6) Type d:\setup.exe 7) Installer starts. 8) Select sound card. Autodetection may work. Worked for me. 9) Test sound. Accept if worked. 10) Accept default installation directory ("c:\westwood\redalert"). 11) Wait installer to finish. 12) Browse to "C:\games\westwood\redalert" or where you installed it. Launch rasetup.exe. Select 640x480, back buffer and hardware filled bits. OK. 13) Back in dosbox window. Type ra to start red alert. 14) Wait... 14) Play!
