    Please Help me

Hi, I have a HP laptop ZT1170 (with windows XP Home as OS) which I have been using for more than couple of years now. It has an adequate memory of 512 MB, but lately it has become extremely slow. I have tried to use all the tricks and tips that I can lay hands on but still the performance keeps degrading. It has a USB 1.1 port and when couple of days back I accessed a External Harddrive through USB, it suddenly gave me a blue screen. Then when I tried to restart it, it just gives me a blank screen (not even the Windows XP logo screen). It seems to shut down itself. When I keep it unused for long time, say 10-12 hours and then when I try to restart, it gives me the logo and asks for different modes to start with... and when I select anyone, it hangs and then when I try to restart, again the same blank screen. Today, when I got that option and tried to have the Safe mode, it gave me the following error: blah blah blah...Disable or uninstall any antivirus, Disk Fragmentator or Backup Utilities..... *** STOP: (0x00000024 (0x001902F8, 0xF7C47778, 0xF7C47478, 0x804E518E) Currently, my laptop seems to completely dead and I am not able to use at all. Please help. Niloy.

I have booted with USB connected External drive and same results. Today I ran the HP eDaigTools and it didn't find any problems. But now I am getting another error for that STOP message. It says "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Does anybody of you have any idea how to fix that.

It can't go upto the BIOS stage. One interesting thing is when I restart the laptop, it hangs with completely blank screen, as if it has switched off itself. Then no matter how many times I try to switch it on, the same result. But if I give some long break to it, say, 10-12 hours or more, then it starts with a HP and then Windows XP logo, etc. and then it shows which mode (like safe mode, etc.) to start with. But then when I select one, it hangs. And then it gets into the same groove, complete blank screen whenever I try to restart it. Is it something that you can smell here? I am currently out of warranty, otherwise I could have simply dumped to HP. I just want to get it started somehow.

Well, the power seems to be okay. I have even removed the battery and tried to run directly on AC power. When I am inserting a CD, it's rotating and stuff, so the power seems okay. As I have written before, if I start it after keeping it idle for a long time (about 10-12 hours), it shows the XP logo and asks for which mode to start with (Safe, Safe with command prompt, etc.) but then it gets hanged. And after that, whenever I restart, it's completely blank screen. Again, after 10-12 hrs, if I restart it, it shows the XP logo and.... like before. It seems that the machine is shutting itself after sometime. Can it be motherboard issue? Any ideas?

Thanks! Well, there is no DB/server stuff on this laptop, this is my personal one, so mostly media applications, etc. Well, currently, it's not booting at all. In fact, it's not doing anything, when I switch on the laptop, with or without any CD's, it just sleeps or hangs. Nothing happens after that. So, there is no option of using RC from an XP install disk, or anything else. I have diskeeper and some anti-virus, anti-spyware installed but I can't take them off unless I get something on the laptop to disable them. Have no idea, how to go inside, at the least.

    Please Help me

Hi guys, first of all, lots of thanks for responding so quickly. Though I am an IT Consultant and had been doing high IT Consultancy (like ERP, CRM, Oracle Solutions, etc.) for a long time but I don't have too much exposure in Hardware etc. I have only one laptop and currently I am not able to use it at all. So, you can understand my desperation. And so, I have turned for your help throug this forum. Now for exact problem: The error come as follows: "A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Disable or ininstall any anti-virus, disk defrag. or back-up utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run Chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your machine. Technical information: *** STOP: (0x00000024 (0x001902F8, 0xF7C47778, 0xF7C47478, 0x804E518E) Well, first of all, I am not able to boot or go into the Windows at all. I have not recently installed any software, or at least I have been able to boot the machine normally quite a few times after I installed something last. I do have lots of antivirus or antispyware installed though. But as I said, I connected an external harddisk through USB and then suddenly I got that dreaded blue screen. No overclocking, no change of RAM, BIOS.... it's running the same since last 2-3 years. It could be heat, temperature, though (USB draws power, right?) Well, the problem now is, that I am not able to go in at all. It's not booting, generally it's a completely blank screen when I turn it on. But if I give some time totally not using it (say, 10-12 hrs), then it starts with a XP logo screen, asks for which mode to start with, and whatever I select, it hangs after sometime, and then when I restart it again, blank screen. So, I can't do any chkdsk, anything. I have tried to use the original XP CD's, etc. but no result. I have even tried to remove harddisk but no effect. So, I have no clue how to make it start. Once in, if needed, I can reinstall the Windows, run chkdsk but for that I need to at least login with safe mode. Pls help. Niloy.
