Installed Norton AV and deleted viruses and adware. Internet access and Network access became unavailable. Cannot receive a new IP address, (Auto Detect enabled). Ipconfig /release works but /renew does not. Received common client user session error from Norton. Researched and turned off firewall and finally unisntalled Norton just to eliminate the possibility that it might cause the problem. The IP issue continues.
I have set up the unit just like the other ten on the network that still have access and have no DHCP problems. I can ping the server & other units, but not the DNS or the internet/urls. Other units have no problem with either.
I assigned static address and can access network but not internet. So TCP/IP should not be a problem. XP does not allow to uninstall TCP/IP so that is not an option. Re-installing IE will not help the situation.
It seems to have something to do with an internal system file that was related to one of the viruses. I'm not certain of which files directly effect the ability to accept a DHCP address from a server. System Restore is not an option at this point. This is a last effort to keep from going through a reinstall of XP. Can anyone help?
