7800 gtx and 7800 gt choppy performance!

Others are having the same problem, you just aren't finding the forums. A quote from a mod in the eVGA forums, about a 7800GT CO with your prob: "Also, chech to make sure that Your Graphics Card is on its own IRQ and not sharing an IRQ with another Componant. Also, what Main Board are you using? If it is ASUS then set Your PEG Link Mode to Fast, or Fastest, and then set the PCIe Frequency to 125.MGz." Hope that helps, thread can be found here: http://evga.com/community/messageboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10268 ***EDIT*** BTW, I agree, your card should be kickin butt without OC'ing it, mine is a wee babe compared to yours, I have to OC.

7800 gtx and 7800 gt choppy performance!

I have an eVGA 6600GT AGP, HL2 runs pretty good for me, but I do have the odd freeze now and then. Seems that HL2 plays havoc with my GPU, depending on where I am in the game, it will clock down to 2D, then up to 3D low performance, then up to 3D high performance, it's all over the freakin place! In other games, I find that although a I may drop down to 500mhz on the core in menus(3D low), I'm right back up to 591(3D high-OC'ed) when I go back into the game. HL2 tosses me from 3D high to 2D low while playing the game! Time to look for another patch. ;( I'm running on an older system so no BIOS upgrades left for me, but I suggest you hunt for a BIOS update for your mobo, from what I've read around the net a BIOS update for the 78xx series seems to fix a lot of problems. Chipset updates are also high on the list. Depending on who made your vidcard, there may also be a BIOS update for it, I know eVGA has Bios updates for some of their 78xx series cards. As for opening up the hidden settings on your card, I use NVTweak: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=911 for those, and overclocking, and RivaTuner: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 for monitoring. Only use one utility to overclock, not both at the same time. It's fine to OC with RivaTuner, provided you aren't OC'ing with NVTweak at the same time. I use NVTweak for the OC as the GUI is a lot more friendly, RivaTuner takes a bit to get used to. Tons of drivers at guru3d.com too, pick a flavour. Also, after uninstalling drivers, reboot into safe mode and clean up the garbage left behind with Driver Cleaner Pro: http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Cleaner_Professional_d3214.html reboot, then install the new drivers. Hope that helps a bit.

I think his own restore problem is getting to him.
  4. I quoted myself there, should have gone to bed early, heh. That was in answer to this post: Posted on 2006-01-03 08:09:50 by shassouneh

    XP Start Menu Items sloooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!

I suppose it is possible, but that would slow it down. 2 sticks of 1gig, in dual channel, would probably be faster than 3 sticks of 1gig trying to run in dual channel.

Man, that's a lot of things to have running at the same time, over-kill I do believe. I take it your system tray is full of icons? That's your reason, you're really taxing your system.

Help!! I just cant figure this one out!

Have you tried a different vidcard?

Yes, you have to boot from the floppy to flash the BIOS.

ATI X850 Pro DVI Not Working

I'm no ATI guy, I'm an nVidia fanboy here, last time I was around an ATI card, was when I pulled the old Rage II+ (or some such) out of my wife's old system. Have you tried the ATI forums? Be nice if you could try this card in another system, with your monitor. Having not been into an ATI console lately, do you have a setting for "display mode timing"? If you do, try setting it to "coordinated video timing". Other than that, I mean you've done all you can except drop the card in another system......

ATI X850 Pro DVI Not Working

Man! I do believe you've discovered the prob yourself, I can't see how you could troubleshoot anything else! I would RMA the card, the monitor works with other cards, but not yours.
  15. Okay, time to play in the BIOS. Reboot and go into the BIOS, make sure that these settings are disabled: System BIOS Cachable Video BIOS Cachable Video RAM Cachable Set your AGP Aperature Size to 128mb Make sure that AGP Fast Writes are enabled. If the AGP Fast Writes are already enabled, and it won't boot in AGP8X, disable them. Your card should be able to boot up in 8X mode, you have an 8X AGP slot. Might also be a good idea to update your chipset drivers: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-...mp;submit=Go%21 Also, if you can boot into safe mode, right click the desktop, click Properties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor and then check the box that says Hide modes that this monitor cannot display

problem with my graphics drivers.. i think

No problems with BIOS flashes, especially an AWARD BIOS, I've never had a problem. I've had a bad flash, as in it woulkd lock halfway through, and I'd have to reboot, which I was always told would kill your mobo. Contrary to what I was told, the AWARD BIOS can be recovered from a bad flash, nothing to it, just start over. I've recovered from bad flashes on a DFI board, and a SOYO board, I just don't worry about it anymore. If you have a bad flash, just reboot and start the procedure over again, piece of cake. I've also flashed the BIOS on my old Voodoo 3000 AGP, my ti4200, and my brand new eVGA 6600GT AGP. This is really no big deal. Any problems, ask away. One thing, write down the name of the bin file you will be flashing to, and of course the name of the flash.exe and have them handy once you get into the flash utility.

    Geforce 4 MX 4000 - slowness issues

Did Eradicator actually work? Have you checked to make sure that you're now actually using DX8.1 with DX diagnostic? If it did work, bonus, if not, try "Happy Uninstaller". Some of these DX9 uninstallers don't work, I forget which one I used. If the probs are only in D3D, try DX Tweaker, maybe you can tweak your D3D settings so you get it working right, or at least better anyhow. http://majorgeeks.com/DirectX_Tweaker_d4575.html Just an opinion here, but I don't think DX9 is your problem, if anything, your 4000 should do okay with DX9. I had(have in my desk drawer) a ti4200, it did better in DX9 than my FX5200, which supports DX9. The 5200 was too slow for gaming, but it tried to use everything available(eye-candy) in DX9. My ti4200 on the otherhand, did not support DX9, so all that extra eye-candy could not be used. Thus, my ti4200 smoked the 5200 in the same DX9 games. The games still looked very good, better than what the 5200 could run at, as the 5200 had to have the eye-candy turned off to play a game. Hopefully you can get some decent frame rates playing with the D3D settings.

You have onboard sound, but no onboard video, don't worry about it. Last thing I can suggest is flashing the BIOS. Latest version is 4.1, top of the list. Instructions are included with the download in the zip file, but feel free to ask questions if you're not sure of something. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=393&kind=1

Not good. Possibly this is the problem, hard for the server to access the computer if the files aren't there to let it in. How do you fix that? I really don't know, but I do know that missing files are not a good thing.

Spybot is good but sometimes it goes overboard and tea timer is a useless use of resources. Since you are being asked about running activeX then either a program is blocking or your internet security zones are at some custom setting. Do you have the same problem in safe mode? Although this certainly is a possibility, I somehow get the feeling its not the cause. Call it a hunch. I have this same problem in Last Known Good, and Safe modes (see original post!) Thanx for the input. I really appreciate it. Maybe AZ has something there? Have you run "HiJackThis"? http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/#Top Could find something Spybot missed.

    Geforce 4 MX 4000 - slowness issues

Vidcard manufacturers tend to "tweak" drivers for their cards, and that doesn't always work for your system. Get the nVidia drivers, I know they work better for me. The 77.77's can be had here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1145 To get a few more options in your settings, dwnld NVTweak: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=911 When you swap out drivers, you should make sure you clean them out totally, so after uninstalling the drivers, run Driver Cleaner Pro in safe mode: http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Cleaner_Professional_d3214.html

XD Okay, you only have one exhaust fan, and your system is running hot. My system sits here at 20C/68F for the system, 24.5C/76F for the CPU. Another fan wouldn't hurt at all, I believe your vidcard is running even hotter, they always do. You can try pulling the sidepanel off your tower and sitting a household fan beside your system, just let it blow air on the vidcard(and everything else), and see if the graphics problem goes away. Strange that your ethernet controller is just being found now, how are you connecting to the internet?

    Geforce 4 MX 4000 - slowness issues

First off, PCI cards are not meant for gaming, there's no way around that. Is it better than a GF2 MX200? Probably. An MX400, AGP, 64mb/128bit, will smoke the MX4000 though. Your MX4000 is PCI, that's the first problem, the PCI bus is slower than the AGP bus. Next, your card has 64mb of memory and is 32bit. For today's games, a minimum of 128mb/128bit is required. That 32bit is the transfer rate through the memory bus of the card, 32bits/second. That's very slow. For example, I bought a BFG FX5500 OC, not knowing it was only a 64bit card. It was to replace my 5200. The 5200 smoked it, as it was a 128bit card. That's how much of a difference there is. Top of the line MX4000 AGP is something like 128mb/64bit, and I do believe an MX400 64mb/128bit would give it a run for it's money. An MX440 AGP, 128/128 would smoke it. I feel for you as you were given some questionable advice, happens to everyone somewhere along the line, hard lessons are the ones we remember. The 2 pin connector is for a fan, used on models with "active-cooling", you could add a fan to the heatsink, but it doesn't need one, it won't get hot. I have more to say about the drivers, back in a bit, must drive my 14 year old to work now.
