That mobo is AGP 3.0. BTW, the X850 also supports 1.5V, AGP is backwards compatible, to a point, that card won't work in a 2X slot(3.3V).

That just plain blows. ;( I hope you can return your vidcard, or at least exchange it for one that is compatible with your mobo. Good luck dude. -

Okay, the onboard chipset/video is probably sis, so that's why that driver is showing up. You have to disable the onboard video through the BIOS before installing your new card. If you haven't done this, we'll give you instructions on how to do so. If you have already done this, you have to remove/uninstall the old drivers(sis) before installing the new nVidia drivers. To do this, right-click your desktop, select Properties/Settings/Advanced/Adapter/Properties/Driver/Uninstall. I don't seem to have any luck with new drivers from nVidia, so I stick with the 77.77 drivers, work like a charm for me, I used them with my old ti4200, and I now use them with my 6600GT AGP, give them a shot: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html Be sure to uninstall the old drivers first, then run Driver Cleaner Pro: http://www.drivercleaner.net/ before installing the new drivers. The newest drivers from nVidia are optimized for the newest cards, mainly the 6800/7800 series of cards. The 81.95's kill my card, slow everything right down, so as I said, I stick with older drivers. Let us know how it works out for you. -
Get this version of DX9, then install from your HDD, forget the web-install, it's crapola. You're also best to get SP1 and SP2 downloadables, and burn them to a CD. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en

help with diectx 4 game half life 2
Relic replied to marshmello's topic in Everything New Technology
Hmmmm, HL2 should have recognized the prob when you tried to install, and yeah, I know, it takes forever. :x Anyhow, if you're having a prob getting DX9 to work, dwnld the developers copy of DX9, then install from your HDD, many times files get pooched in the dwnld/web-install from M$. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en Now, if you have a legit copy of XP, there will be no probs getting that file. If you don't, and that's the prob in the first place, you're on your own. -
Help: OpenGL program works on Win9x but NOT on WinNTs (2000 & XP)
Relic replied to GL_User's topic in Software
I'm with American Zombie, time to go to "aftermarket" drivers. I also found these older generic OpenGL drivers, don't know if they would help(I doubt it could hurt). Seems the forums are not working at Voodoo Files, would be a good place to ask advice, if the forums were up and running. Anyhow: http://www.voodoofiles.com/7564 There are several tweaking programs out there, I use NVTweak, the newest version of "Coolbits", although it doesn't give me OpenGL settings while using the 77.77 drivers. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=911 RivaTuner is far more advanced, and will let you tweak the OpenGL settings bigtime, another you may want to try out: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 nVHardPage is another, with OpenGL settings: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=362 From what I've read, unless you are using two monitors, make sure the OpenGL settings specify there is only one monitor, seems to be a bug with OpenGL and poor performance. It also seems that M$ has given up on OpenGL "hardware" support, they only offer software support now, because, well, they want everyone to use D3D, they do own DX afterall, go figure. x) Anyhow, keep us updated, hope we can help you find a solution. -
Help: OpenGL program works on Win9x but NOT on WinNTs (2000 & XP)
Relic replied to GL_User's topic in Software
Seems you have a real "head-banger" there, is there an imprint of your keyboard on your forehead yet? Heh heh heh. First off, I think formatting is a last resort, takes far too long to re-install everything, then go through getting all the patches/updates, a royal PITA. Next, I would never suggest "the latest and greatest" nVidia drivers for an MX440, more like get the 77.77's, the "L&G's" are optimized for the newest cards, older cards will work with them, but not very well. I have a brand new 6600GT AGP and I use the 77.77's, the newest drivers kill me. I also used the 77.77's with my ti4200, which I just upgraded from, the the "L&G" also killed that card. Get the 77.77's here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html Next, you cannot get a clean uninstall of nVidia or ATI drivers, they always leave something behind, so scoop this, and run it after uninstalling the drivers: http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Cleaner_Professional_d3214.html It works, I use it myself, there are ALWAYS files left behind after an uninstall. Next, check your BIOS for an AGP Driving Control option, if you have the option, set it to manual, then change the AGP Driving Value to "EA". This is an nVidia fix only, it works with some cards, but not all, worth a shot, it worked with my ti4200, and works with this 6600GT. As for "compatibilty mode", works with some games, no so good for others. For instance, Viper Racing runs at 43FPS in XP. Swap to '98 mode, I get 74FPS, excellent. '95 mode, 130FPS, totally unplayable, way to fast. Compatibility mode is a crap shoot in my opinion. Also, these can happen on Win9x platforms simply by performing the following: 1. Go to Control Panel, Click System Icon, click the Advanced Tab, Then the File System button. 2. On the "...how this computer performs...", change the Desktop computer to Network Server. 3. Restart the computer 4. Try running an OpenGL program, and you'll get the impressive 3 FPS. :-\ Is there an equivalent configuration for these setting on Windows XP? Same spot in XP, in the advanced tab click "Performance/Advanced", then set it so "processor scheduling" and "memory usage" are checked off for "programs". Hope something in here works for you, but one thing I have to stress, use Driver Cleaner Pro, the old nVidia drivers have to be totally removed before new ones are installed, or it's a mess. One last thing, I'm not familiar with your mobo, but if using VIA 4in1 drivers, make sure you have the right flavour, I use the older drivers myself, they just work better with my setup. Good luck, and let us know what happens, one way or the other. -
Very cool dumontal, happy to see you got it fixed.

Found this from 2004, methinks this is the cure for your problem. Read through the whole thread, seems to be a bitch to get rid of, so don't give up, you can disappear it. Good luck, and let us know what happens. http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showtopic=6121&hl=idesk+mfc

Happy to see you got it back. Maybe I should expand on my answers, instead of waiting for Sampson to do it for me, hahahahaaha

For hardware monitoring, I suggest Motherboard Monitor: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311, it writes a logfile of your system temps, giving you the high/low/average temps of the system. Not all vidcards have temperature monitoring, mainly just the newer ones do, and not all of those either. The 3D Mark series of benchmarks are, well, benchmarks, okay, but they are synthetic benchmarks, they don't give a sense of what your videocard will do in an actual game. To stress test your system, get Prime95: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4363 For your RAM, get MemTest: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=350 To test your vidcard, get into a game, crank up the eye candy, and play. If you crash your system, check out the MBM logfile, and see what got hot. There are dozens of system monitors out there: http://majorgeeks.com/downloads11.html, MBM being the best in my opinion, but remember, anything that monitors your system, also uses up resources. You can't make an omelet without breaking an egg.

Thanks, Jim Expert? Well, that's debatable, but have you tried to get into the BIOS on that Dell? Can you get into the BIOS on a Dell? Possibly by setting it to "fail-safe defaults" you'll get your keyboard back. How about safe mode? If you can get in with safe mode, remove the keyboard drivers, slap the '98 CD in the drive, reboot, and let Windoze put them back in for you. Damn, '98 was buggy. ;(

Im having problems with Nvidia Geforce MX 4000..
Relic replied to Kwest's topic in Everything New Technology
You'll have to turn off the onboard video through the BIOS, usually, hitting "delete" or "insert" while booting will get you in, then disable onboard video. -
With just a wee bit of education(net and file wise), and a half decent firewall, you don't have to worry about viruses. I run a Lynksys router, totally stealthed(very simple to do with port forwarding to cyberspace) and I check all dwnlds before opening. Every single AVP that I have payed for has caused me grief, the free ones haven't. That's my own personal experience.

Now, I have to take a step back, seems that maybe you're better off with a free AVP, this one is getting very good reviews, dwnld it here: http://majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html I'm gonna scoop this myself, my CA eTrust is causing me grief. Seems that AVP's that cost money cause problems, go figure. ;( Anyhow, glad I could help, tis what these forums are all about.

Can't run everything on max, cause my processor is a bit weak but as far as the card is concerned, there're no complaints here. Of course, it'd be nice if it had more oomph with it but so far it'll have to do. FEAR ran great in 1024x768x32 AAx2, minus soft shadows, no fps issues whatsoever. COD2 was another story, in one level had to drop AA off and turn rez to 640x480 just to pass it. 81.95 has a compatibility fix for this, though I haven't tried it yet. So yes, 6600GT is a nice card and I'm sure you'll do fine with it Thanks TB, much appreciated. I'm currently running the 77.77 drivers with my ti4200, which work great with it, no DX9 support with the ti4200 though. Had a beer with a guy from work at his place tonite, he has an 850XT, fired up the FEAR demo, awesome graphics, I'm very impressed, I'm gonna like this game. I'll be sure to run with the 77.72's first, then try out the 81.95's. I'm curious to see what eVGA will have on the CD. As a side note, the new 6800GS PCI-Express, is soon to have a sister card, the 6800GS AGP! Yeah baby!!! With eVGA's "step up" program, I'll be able to scoop this for cheap, if I upgrade within 90 days, they take the full purchase price of my 6600GT off the cost of the 6800GS, that just rocks. The 6800GS AGP is set to be released in mid-December, I just ordered my 6600GT on Monday, so that leaves me a good 2 months for eVGA to come out with their version. I have my fingers crossed. I'm plagued by a weak processor here myself, but I'm replacing the caps on my DFI, so that should allow me to OC my unlocked Tualatin to somewhere around 2ghz. Yeah, not much cache there, but hey, good enough till I upgrade this spring. Once again, thanks dude.

Can you not reinstall over top of W2K Pro? I'd rather try that first, just in case it's a prob with a Win system file or dll. I just ordered an eVGA 6600GT AGP, should be here in a week, I'd like to know what happens, even though I'm running XP. Keep us up to date on the drivers, and what works, if you could, it would be much appreciated by me, that's for sure.

Try uninstalling Quicktime, which is a chore in itself. I stay very far away from it, it causes all kinds of problems with my system, yet doesn't affect my wife's at all.

Don't ask them, tell them. This is your money, get what you are psying for, or go with another ISP.

Man man!!! That's a lot of programs running in the background, and all of them look legit. Dude, you have to clean up your startup files, you don't need all of these sitting in your systray, nor running in the background. If they run in the background, they do start faster, but at the same time, they're eating resources. It's late here, like 1am, and I have to work in the morning, but I'll zip through these tomorrow, and tell you how to shut a bunch of them down, if someone else doesn't beat me to it. Easy cleanup for you, you just have too many programs running when you start up.

Try this patch, and good luck. http://avault.com/pcrl/patches_temp.asp?patch=fa18

You have major problems, maybe 25, 30 processes, tops, on bootup. Anything more, and you have spyware/a virus, that's just not right dude. What AVP are you using, and what anti-spyware?

My Voodoo was faster, but didn't have DX9 support. The 5200 was a joke, it had DX9 support, but it was a dog. I dumped it for a ti4200, which smokes it. No DX9 support, but then again, I don't miss it. Sometimes, upgrades just don't work out, happens to all of us.
