For DOS games, DX is irrelevant as DX only affects windows games. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/95 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/ Dude, you CAN uninstall DX9, whomever told you different is full of she-ite. I have done so myself. Please, do not advise people to reinstall Windows when it is not necessary. With all due respect, when you say DX9 cannot be uninstalled, you are wrong. I do believe that DX Happy Uninstall works the best, but never give up, one of them will work. http://majorgeeks.com/downloads28.html Why anyone would want to unisnstall DX9 nowadays is beyond me, I can get DX9 to work in DOSbox, so there is no need to uninstall it.

Also for some reason, when i right click on the drive, it doesn't give me the option to format the disk, so that won't work I need your power!!! Are you sure that's a CD-RW? CD-R means "Read", if that is not CD-RW("W" = "Write"), it will not burn. Lots of DVD burners have the capability of reading CD's, but not writing to them. Check the specs for your burner, make sure it is capable of burning a CD.

Yeah, seems "yutao" has only one answer for every question. As for yutao being a bot, that would explain answering questions that were asked 5 years ago. Can't spammers be put on "auto-plonk" by the mods? Or just remove their membership? This "poster" is a blatent spammer.
  9. Can you get into the BIOS?
  10. Okay, so before installing the new card, you went through: Device Manager and removed your old card, right? If you didn't. Windoze can be trying to boot with your old card still(yes, even XP has brainfarts), and it just isn't there. Try booting up in safe mode, removing the old drivers, then rebboting again, with the new card. If you have to, reboot in safe mode, and install the drivers for the new card that way. I guarantee you have a driver issue. BTW, welcome to the forums.

    Computer keeps restarting please help!!!

So, I take it you're running XP Pro/Home? An error stating IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL usually means a RAM problem, either your physical RAM sticks, or a RAM prob with your vidcard. You can't boot in safe mode, so I suggest going into your BIOS when you bootup, then setting your system to "Fail Safe Defaults". Generally, holding down the "delete" or "insert" key while booting up will get you into the BIOS. I have more options for you, but let's start with the simple stuff, and work our way up to the PITA stuff.

    Adding a subwwofer!

Man man! It's 7am here, and I'm off to work right now, but I'll be back later. As for the mobo, we need the model of your computer, if it's a factory job, Dell/HP/Gateway, we need the model # for the system. If it's a custom system, mobo manufacturer and model number. I'll be back after work, hopefully it rains today, and I get off early, Fridays are always good for goin home early, beer is a good thing.

Open your control panel, double-click on "Sounds and Audio Devices", at the bottom of the Volume tab, click advanced beside "Speaker Settings", in the new window, select "5.1 Surround Sound Speakers". You should have a graphic equalizer somewhere in your sound settings, hunt around for it, I have onboard Realtek, it's under "Sound Effects". This is not the best "sound card" you'll ever have, but it can sound decent with a little tweaking. Update your drivers for the onboard too, go to your mobo manufacturer's site, they'll have the latest drivers. If you need help up[censored], post some info on your mobo, and we'll fix you up.

  17. First off, we need to know what OS you have, '98/2000/ME/XP? Next, do you an anti-virus program? Do you run an anti-spyware program? Once we figure out what you are working with, we'll know what we are working with.

    2 computers to broadband

I agree with cormac, get yourself an ethernet card, as low as $4. For $20, you can pick up a pair of decent ethernet cards and set up both systems. Here's a linky, but you can scoop an ethernnet card just about anywhere: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/c...t=0&Recs=10 If you pick up a router, the connections are basically this: both PC's connect from the ethernet cards to the router. The router connects to the broadband modem. This puts the router between your two PC's and the broadband modem. If the router has a built in hardware firewall(most do nowadays), it protects both your PC's. Test out your current speeds, and get a few recommendations on how to improve it at these sites: http://www.dslreports.com/tools http://www.speedguide.net/sg_tools.php If you need any help with the tests, ask away.

I feel that if one wants free help, the least they could do is take the time to type out their question in proper English, not "leet speak". As for your opinion of me, your own actions speak very loudly. You wait ten days after the original question was asked, then call me an ass. Well done. The PSU? Not very likely. If this question gets asked in English, I do have an answer, until then, forget it. Try filling out a resume with that sort of BS, see how far you get in life. That makes me an ass? I'll take that as a compliment, thank you sir. [Edited by Relic on 2005-10-20 06:11:57]

Sound CARDS not working (Any of them!!)

Just to cover all the bases, you've gone to "sounds and audio devices" in the control panel, and the sound is not muted, right? Sometimes, the simple things can bite your azz. I've rebuilt my system after upgrading a slew of parts, and could not get it to boot. Swapped wires to the switches, disconnected just about everything, gave up and decided the PSU was dead. When I pulled the PSU, I realized I had not plugged the ATX connector into the mobo in the first place. I spent a 45 minutes troubleshooting this sytem, and all along, the mobo just wasn't plugged in. My wife still finds that very amusing. Okay, so do I, I've had my system apart a hundred times with all the mods I've done to the tower, but man, I really blew it there, heh heh heh. One other thing, after clearing the CMOS, onboard sound was enabled in the BIOS, correct? If it's the onboard sound giving you the prob, when you disable it in the BIOS, a PCI sound card should work. Very annoying, now this prob is bugging me. ;( If you do decide to reinstall XP, no need for a clean install, just repair the install you have, that's the second time the "repair" or "R" shows up when you boot from the CD. The first time around, XP asks if you want to repair from the "Recovery Console", you don't want to do that. Second time the "R" option comes up, you repair XP by installing it again, but you don't lose any saved files/games/programs. Goes through the motions of a fresh install, just doesn't lose anything on you. I'd try that option before formatting and losing everything. Anyhow, I hope it's something simpler than that. Let us know what happens.

    2 computers to broadband

Actually, my hardware firewall, built into my Linksys cable router, keeps me completely stealthed, just took a wee bit of tweaking, as in forwarding all port 113 requests into cyberspace. For the record, from a grc.com scan, just a couple minutes ago: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2005-10-20 at 02:13:29 Results from scan of ports: 0-1055 0 Ports Open 0 Ports Closed 1056 Ports Stealth --------------------- 1056 Ports Tested ALL PORTS tested were found to be: STEALTH. TruStealth: PASSED - ALL tested ports were STEALTH, - NO unsolicited packets were received, - NO Ping reply (ICMP Echo) was received. How is that not a firewall? Difference of opinion here, kinda splitting hairs, my firewall doesn't make noise, but blocks attempted probes. Software firewalls eat resources, block attempts at probes, make noise, and have very annoying popups. I setup my firewall, and it's done, no tweaking, allowing sites, nothing, aside from power-outages, it's been on for 3 years now. A good router, with a built in hardware firewall, pays for itself in less than a year. And it doesn't annoy the hell out of you. I run anti-spyware/spam/virus/popup blocker/email protection, all free from rogers.com, my isp. I have absolutely no need for a software firewall. On the otherhand, I do believe they are good for people who don't run an AVP or anti-spyware program, it will tell them when the virus is sending out packets, or the spyware is "phoning home". x) Yes, maybe a business with multiple idiots downloading all kinds of garbage have a use for a software firewall, but what is really needed is some educated employees, so they stop doing stupid things. My wife and I sit here, both of our systems comfortably stealthed from probes. Black Ice? Been there, done that, wasn't as good as it said it was. Zone Alarm? Been there, done that, it drove me nuckin futz. Bought my router, $80, one shot deal, took me all of 2 minutes to stealth our systems, 3 years later, not a burp, paid for itself already. BTW, anyone can configure their router to do the same, and anyone that would like instructions on how to do so, say the word.
