Xp on my pc..can't boot up

Are you trying to install from a bootable XP CD? If it used to have '98 on it, it's best to format the HDD first, which is best done from a bootable '98 floppy. After formatting with the '98 floppy, then install XP. BTW, how much RAM does he have?

    Privateer 2 Deluxe Edition

If I change the install directory to one that has more than enough space, it still gives the same message. Does anyone know how to fix this? Try opening the CD, then right clicking the setup.exe file, and setting it to run in Windoze '98 mode. I've had the same prob with older games, and found that if you run the setup.exe on the CD in '98 mode, it does the trick. BTW, I love Privateer, I only have the demo, but it is very cool. There are sites out there with add ons, freebies, if you want Privateer.

    The BEST File recovery tool

Originally posted by ThC 129: Quote: Im not here to promote any software over another, but i would just like to say that File Scavenger is the best deleted partition/file recovery tool out there. I say so because when i put in a 120gb drive to replace my defunct 60gb drive i accidentally overwrote one of my partitions. So here I am like ARGG!!!! Because i had already written to the partition and resized it and all that stuff. So im looking around, i try a lot of different programs, from Easy Recovery 6 to Fast File Undelete. Easy Recovery 6 is by far the biggest waste of time and money in a program. So i happen across File Scavenger and read some of the testimonials and am like what the hell so i run it and VOILA, I regained over 30 GB of data that i thought was gone forever. As i said before Im not trying to promote the program i just want to say that if anyone else ever gets in a bind to get this program. A single user liscense is only $40USD, so it is a damn good trade off for anyone that has ever been in the situation i just described. I use Easy Recovery Pro, and far from being a waste of money, it rocks. I've made my money back already, so it's not a waste, it's an investment. As far as recovering files, I scooped a system during a dumpster dive, 836meg HDD if you can believe that, hahahahaha. Doesn't matter, made a good system for a kid with nothing. Anyhow, I spun up the HDD, found it was formatted. Ran ER Pro on it, got back everything, including the name and address of the person who dropped it off at the dumpster, and some cool projects her kids did for school. Thinking that this was a good time to test out ER's capabilities, I dwnlded the Maxtor utility, and wrote the drive to zeros. ER was STILL able to recover files off the HDD. Go ahead and tell me that's a waste of money, I'll tell you that I think you're sadly mistaken. In other words......

I do believe the solution is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=39225 Seems you have a Trojan. Keep your AVP up to date, and run an anti-spyware program, such as Spybot Search & Destroy(free). http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Before there is any chance of helping you, we need to know what mobo you have now(the new one) and what CPU you have. On top of that, what Operating system are you running, as in what flavour of Windoze, '98/ME/XP? A single beep generally means that the RAM passed the post test. If you can get into the BIOS, reset it to default/fail-safe settings. Also, if you swap out your mobo, generally you have to format your HDD, there will be so many driver issues you can't boot until you do, I've been through that, it's just easier to format, then install your OS.

    about AGP voltage (Geforce4MX 440, EPOX 8k9a KT400)

That card will run very safely at 1.6v, they don't run hot to begin with. Have you flashed the mobo's BIOS to the latest version? Head over to the Epox website and see if there's a BIOS update, and see what that does for you.
  11. The SPAM in these forums has gotten way out of hand, and I agree, IP bans are a good start. Yes, cormac, people can get around IP bans, but SPAMMERS don't take that kind of time, they just SPAM a forum and leave. When they come back to SPAM again, if they can't get in, they just move on to the next forum. People that want to start flame wars will work around an IP ban, but that's because they are obcessed with continuing their war. SPAMMERS just find new forums to spread their disease in. I despise SPAM, and those who spread it. ;(

    Help : Need for Speed

DX7 can be downloaded here: http://pacosdrivers.com/dx.asp. I've dwnlded DX7a and scanned it, no viruses, so that's not a worry. As for dxbuster not working, try this one: http://www.majorgeeks.com/DirectX_Happy_Uninstall_d4347.html, if that doesn't work, there's a few others available on the "Driver Tools" page, keep trying until one works. I know one of them works, I used it to uninstall DX9 myself, but I can't remember which one, heh heh heh Good luck.

can only star in safe mode

Just reinstall '98, piece of pizz, you won't lose anything, and it will put all your sysytem files back to where they were before the update. Man man, I despised '98, I had to do that all the time. ;(

I looked EVERYWHERE for DirectX7, no sites had it to download, then I finally saw Directx7.a I downloaded it, it still said that I had DirectX0 and need Directx7, so then I went and downloaded DIrectX9, and the same message pops up. It still says I only have DirectX0, and I just don't understand why. Cause DX9 is a pig to get rid of. If you run any newer games, and dump DX9, some of them won't play at all. If that's not a prob, scoop this: http://www.dxbuster.de/index_e.html After running the uninstaller, install DX7.

    ATI Graphics Card Problem

Having never used an ATI card myself, my wife's was a nightmare, I just tossed it and bought her an nVidia card, I suggest looking for your ATI/Catalyst driver in "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel. If it's not in there, right click my computer, then click Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Double-click "display adapters", then click driver/"your ATI card". Next click driver/uninstall. Reboot, and then install the new driver for your vidcard. I'm not sure if ATI drivers are the same as nVidia, but I do not allow Windoze to install my drivers, I cancel Windoze attempt to install them, and install them from the exe file that the drivers come with.
