Personally, I thinks the "Sims" are a POS game, aside from that, I figured there was an error message. Onboard graphics blow 90% of the time, the other 10% some things work. For gaming, especially anything with actual graphics, such as Sims2, onboard is a joke. I know that, but you can make these games run, if you're not upset by watching "Pacman" graphics on your system. Tis why I wanted to know what the error was.

I can rip DX7 off one of my old CD's, I still have a few of those puppies kicking around. But, if Sweetascandy is trying to play the original NFS in XP, it's a lost cause, she/he needs dosbox, and then it's not worth it, the graphics suck anyhow.

What, has this become an advertising/SPAMMING forum lately? Bullshit man! ;( I despise people that pimp their products all over the net. Pay to advertise, you cheap prick. ;( Just becaus a SPAMMER is polite, doesn't make them any less of a SPAMMER. Where the hell are the mods when it comes to this crapola? x) -
Originally posted by SupremeXXXX: Quote: Hmm... if you have DirectX9 then there should be absolutely no problem, as far as I know, but still I guess you must download/install directx7. I had similar problems, although with different games, and it appears that each's compatible with certain DirectX versions, so "The newer, the better" doesn't work here. Can't seem to find any other cause of this problem... Are you trying to run the original NFS, and if not, which version of NFS are you trying to run? If it is NFS(the original), what OS are you running, '98 or some other flavour?

If a PCI card is an upgrade to an AGP onboard card, I'm a monkey's uncle. It would be really helpful if we knew what the exact problem was though.

Would it not be xcopy D:\ or xcopy D:\>*.* /h /s c:\Website del c:\Website\SETUP.BAT ? Been a long time since I played in DOS, but doesn't the ">" sign move DOS to that drive, and then carry out any commands after it's there? Instead of swapping to the drive, then typing the command, I think the ">" fires DOS directly to the command. Obviously, substitute "D" for your CD drive. It's been such a long time. Is DOS For Dummies out there somewhere online? Sure helped me out way back when.

I've swapped a mobo twice now, without a clean install. Then I put up with multiple errors/crashes/FUBAR's. Eventually, I just format, start from scratch, and everything wrks fine. New mobo, new install, that's the only right way to do it. Although I've fought it, I know I won't win, losing battle man.

You have to boot off a boot disk, preferably a Windoze '98 boot disk, scoop one here: http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Get the Windoze 98 SE OEM, works well. Once you boot to the DOS/C:> prompt, swap over to your BIOS flash disk(change the floppies, nothing else to do, just swap them out), then type in "flash.exe", that'll get you to your flash program. It'll ask you for the file/BIOS to program, it's a "bin" file. If you haven't already written down the name of the "bin" file, when you swap over to the flash floppy, type in: dir then hit enter. It will give you a list of the files on the floppy, one will be flash.exe(or "flash231abc.exe" and the other will be the bin file, something like "as512a123.bin". That's the file you have to type in the name of. Run the flash.exe, then type in the name of the bin file, and there's your new BIOS. Have patience with the BIOS flash, it takes a bit to get going, but it goes fairly quick once it starts. Anymore questions, or if I didn't clarify something enough, lemme know.

Damn straight! Try the TT on the barebones, never mind hitting Windoze, just get to the BIOS, and see if the power levels are stable. Time to RMA that TT methinks, I was wrong about drivers, obviously. Seems the TT can't handle all the juice your vidcards are using, when they try to power up, the PSU calfs. Heh, trial and error, figured it out yourself, way to go dude.

Well, if you boot off a floppy for the BIOS update, then just let it sit there in DOS for a bit, give it ten minutes or so, and if it doesn't die, do the flash. If you're running an Award Bios, and your original download is an exe file, you can recover from a bad flash, not a prob, I've done it many times. Scared the hell out of me the first time, now I don't worry about it, BIOS ROM chips don't have to be RMA'd anymore, we can fix them ourselves. As for starting with just the basics, very good idea, if you don't want to risk the flash. Personally, I'd sit at the DOS prompt, ready to flash, for a good ten minutes, if my system was stable that long, I'd flash the BIOS. Better yet, before you do that, just clear the CMOS, who knows, maybe the BIOS had a brainfart on the first boot?

Cool, I'll be around for a while, waitin for results.

Okay, if it's a DOS game, I suggest you trying running it in DOS, which you can do by scooping DOSBox, get it here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 It works, I've used it myself to run a few old games. The prob I had was that after I got them up and running, I was so disappointed by the graphics(which looked good back then), that I couldn't handle playing them, they were sad man, really sad, heh heh heh

If I sign on using any of the usernames and the correct password, it takes me to the desktop for a second and then says logging off...saving your personal settings...etc. I am not able to get on to the computer. I don't want to run system restore..I have lot of important data..I have already tried safe mode, last known good configuration, safe mode with command prompt etc. Nothing is working..Please help me with this issue...Thanks in advance... mona Like american zombie said, using system restore won't delete any files you've saved. It will get rid of drivers etc that are messing up your system, but word docs, saved files, they all stay. If restoring doesn't help, do the repair deal, which is the SECOND time you see the option to repair Windoze when booting from the CD. Don't attempt to repair using the Repair Console, that's advanced stuff. The second time you see the option to repair, use that, it reinstalls XP, but doesn't lose any programs or saved files, it basically just repairs files that are missing or corrupted. Yeah, it does take all the time associated with installing XP, but it will get your system back, and that info you want. ***EDIT*** Let me stress that any files you've saved AFTER your last restore point will still be there. Doesn't matter if it a wordpad doc, or something in office XP, it will still be there, even if you saved after your last restore point.

I still think it a driver issue, probably video. Try pulling one of the vidcards, and see what happens. If it boots and stays stable(or doesn't), then try the other one, by itself. If it will run with just one vidcard, but not two, it's most likey an SLI driver issue. Start with that. SLI can't be beat, when it's working right, but there are still bugs to iron out, especially with the newer cards.

Get DOSBox. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1 -
Your manual says on page 52: Do not forget to connect the ATX 4-Pin +12V power plug, otherwise, the system will not boot. It goes on to say: When using two graphics cards, do not forget to connect the ATX 4-Pin +12V power plug to the EZplug, otherwise, the system will be unstable. See page 6-5 for details. Seems all you have to do is plug in the cards/ATX 4-pin connectors buddy, I hope that's all it is, lemme know what happens.

So obviously, you had to format before doing anything else. Did you install your SATA software when XP asked for it? It's got to be hardware related, and a driver issue. Have you tried booting into the BIOS and sitting there for any length of time? Your CPU will get hot just sitting in the BIOS, so if it's heat related, you'll know soon enough. Generally, sitting in the BIOS for 5 minutes gets the CPU a good 10 to 15 degrees hotter(on an Intel, probably more on an AMD) than idling in Windoze does. First off, your system can post, which is a good thing. If your system doesn't die on you when you're sitting in the BIOS, it's probably a driver, so try starting in safe mode. If it still dies, try starting in safe mode, with step by step confirmation, so you know what's killing you. Once you figure out what's killing the boot, unplug it, and go from there. Could be a very simple driver issue, or it could just be something that was DOA. Try safe mode, I would bet on a driver issue.
