    Trouble Uploading Files

Your internet provider and what type of connection you have would be helpful.
  2. Yeah, that would work, SLI PSU, but nowhere enough power for a top-of-the-line SLI system. You want to run 2 cards in the future, 600W+, dual-core ready. For what you want now, go with the first Akasa. Now, you can post links for 100 more PSU's that will do the trick, but it's a waste of time, you already have your answer. Go with one or the other.

    BIOS Checksum Error

Couple of different reasons for this, power failure while your computer is running, bad CMOS battery, memory. So, how old is your mobo, and have you ever changed the battery? If it's less than a year old, just try clearing the CMOS, either by the jumper, or by pulling the battery for 5 minutes. If that doesn't work, pull all the RAM, then start re-installing it one stick at a time. If none of that works, try a new battery, which I figure is the probable cause.
  4. Akasa has a good rep, haven't heard a lot about Chieftec PSU's being bad, so either one, both have dual 12V rails at 14 and 15 amps each, should do you well.

Mike. [Edited by themanager3066 on 2006-05-24 10:58:30] It's definitely your PSU, the bare minimum for your card is 300W, I wouldn't use less than a 400W with your setup. On the side of your PSU there should be a chart, describing the output on your "rails", which are the power rails. The bare minimum for your card/system is 18amps on the +12V rail, which should be fine. A good PSU can be had for around $50 Canadian, you'll have to convert that to pounds, this for example: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=15860&vpn=AX400-PN&manufacture=FSP%20GROUP%20USA It has two 12V rails, one at 18amps, the other 16amps, more than enough for your system, and the price is right.

Have you seen this new threat yet? spywarebot?

I got burned by spy sheriff a couple weeks back, another derivative of some backdoor Trojan, burned me good, I ended up formatting. Forget the name of the Trojan, it was released into the wild April 26. Nasty bugger. ;(

This could be true but there are a few BSOD's that target either HDD, Corrupt installation, and other defective hardware. I agree to the solution that it could just be bios settings. IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or the 0x0A error occurs because of an IRQ Setting conflict that happens because/in the OS. this could be because of an incompatible/incorrect driver, defective cards, incompatible hardware or just a corrupt installations. (there are a few viruses that could cause your computer to display this BSOD but this would seldom happen because the virus could not propagate effectively because of this check www.virusdef.org/def/?id=30991). I suggest clearing BIOS Settings and if this doesnt work. Remove all of the cards peripherals and keep the number of components as low as possible(but would be able to boot up). for example, disconnect everthing just leave: monitor, keyboard, hdd, memory, prc, and Video card. See what happens. if it doesnt occur, add the other components one by one and see which causes the error. I wish this helps. I agree, not all BSOD's are caused by RAM, but if you re-read what was said, and something else I agree with, 9 out of 10 are RAM related. I went through this with bad RAM in my old system, and went through it with RAM OC'ed too far in my current/new system. A crapola PSU can cause the same BSOD, because it isn't feeding the RAM/mobo the juice it needs. Two easy things to do, clear the CMOS, and pull a stick of RAM. Try both. Anyhow, as of right now, it's all a guessing game, as Jasbo suggested, we need full system specs to troubleshoot a system, otherwise we're just grasping at straw. If someone tells me they're running 3 optical drives, 2 HDD's, 6 fans, and a 7900GT CO, all on a PCI-E mobo, with a dual core CPU, powered by a 350W PSU, ummm, I'd say the PSU is the prob. So until we get some system specs, this thread is pretty useless. WE NEED SYSTEM SPECS!

Cool dude, happy to have helped out, you're welcome. And yeah, V-Control, I remember that, is that dude's site still up and running? Damn, so long ago I forget his name, man he did a lot for all us Voodoo owners after 3DFX went under, very cool. 8)

I coulda sworn they used to, but heh, it's as life goes I suppose... Okay, you can head over here: http://ca.briefcase.yahoo.com/dhemkc523@rogers.com and go into the "Voodoo" folder, 3dfx tools are in there, and so it "Voodoolizer". I made the folder public, so let me know when you have them downloaded. Couldn't find the drivers, but I'll surf around a bit tonight, i may be able to come up with some yet.
  13. Originally posted by SubGum: Quote: Yeah, and I've been to all of those. None of them have the XP compatible 3DFX Underground Tools. Just a bunch of old tweaking guides and ghetto 3DFX tools for 9x. Hang in there, I have to head off to work shortly, but I'll post you some links tonight, around 6pm EST, sooner work gets rained out. Buried on a CD somewhere, I also have a modded BIOS, and probably all the tweaking tools and tweaked drivers you need. At one time, I was running my Voodoo 3000 AGP with an 1100 Celery and 64meg of RAM, on XP. Very slow bootup and net surfing, but at least it was stable compared to '98SE. With 512meg, it wasn't too bad. Good card for older games.

    Win XP Firewall stalling downloads?

Norton sucks, it's notorius for screwing things up like that. Try uninstalling it, you'll be in for even more surprizes. Kaspersky is another one, totally trashed my XP, had to format and reintall XP. AVP's suck, for the most part, they do more damage than they keep out.

Rapid decrease in space -- Help !!

I'm at a loss here, I don't have that folder on my system. Anyhow, after searching around, found another fix to try: Change this registry key setting to "0", which turns of the logger, hopefully that does it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI Start REG_DWORD 0

Rapid decrease in space -- Help !!

Are you running bootvis? If so, remove it, see if that fixes the prob.
  21. For all that it matters, just scoop the file off your own system, it's buried here: C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe. Copy it to a floppy, then do the recovery deal with your XP CD like the Zombie said. Saves you extracting the file, which is just a pain anyhow. As much as I hate the recovery console, it can save your butt, it has saved mine a couple of times.

Well maybe the fact that my CPU socket burned up (and I mean literally) due to the wavering voltage from the caps could be considered a "stability" issue but as far as the OS operating...rock solid. Anyway, I hope everyone feels better. Earlier in the post, it seems that there were several mentions of formatting therefore not a virus...can't viruses stay resident in the Master Boot Record of the hard disk regardless of format? I may have missed something from earlier but I am pretty sure this is true (but obviously not the issue if hard drives have been swapped). Yes, some viruses hook into the MBR, "boot sector" viruses. Considering it has already been established by the experts in here that it's not a virus, I found no reason to expand on that, seems a simple format gets rid of ALL viruses, according to the experts. Being the egotistical SOB that I am, I would boot from the XP CD, then head into the recovery console and type in "fixmbr". That would dump any boot sector virus, but WTF do I know?

Relic since you are unable to accecpt anything that disagrees with you. But my question is, Why are you replacing so many capacitors for? If you would quit burning up your boards they may last longer. But then you are the expert in everything about computers. Char27, I do hope you find out what the problem is. Also Relic if you had read all my post you would have found out that I had eliminated the ram and hd but still had the problem. Have fun folks. You may have eliminated the RAM and HDD, but obviously, Char has not. This is not your system we're talking about, it is Char's system. I do not understand your question: "But my question is, Why are you replacing so many capacitors for? If you would quit burning up your boards they may last longer. But then you are the expert in everything about computers." I had a DFI CA64 TN, that I found out after purchasing was well known for having bad caps. I replaced them. I have never had to replace caps on any other mobo. WTF are you talking about when you go on about "If you would quit burning up your boards"? If YOU had read my post, and been able to comprehend it, you would not make such a statement. You think I have a big ego? TFB, get over it. I don't ATTEMPT to answer questions I have no answer for, nor toss out shots in the dark, you'll never see me answering a question about a networking problem, that's not my forte. Anything beyond my scope of knowledge, I stay away from. I come to this forum to help people, not for anything alse. I don't ask for help in these forums, I help when I can. Senior members of this forum know that, you are a noob, you have no clue. I have no problem leaving this forum altogether, so noobs like yourself can take over, and your "shot in the dark" answers will rule the day. Fuck you, asshole.

If we are going to be blowing our horns and not come up with solutions then we should not be here at all. We can either learn from each other or not. The choice is up to us. If you always do what you have always done You will always get what you have alsways got. Look out side the box sometimes. It may suprise you. Yes, let's not blow our own horns. Oh, do you mean that I'm blowing my own horn? Why? Because I swapped out caps? It's very simple, anyone can do it, it's not rocket science, nor do you need a degree in electrical engineering to do it. It's a simple fix, wow I did it, so did thousands of others, that's not blowing my own horn. If stating that I saved myself a wad of cash by swapping out said caps is blowing my own horn, in your opinion, ah well, I can live with that. There, I'm over it. I'm a firm believer in "KISS", Keep It Simple Stupid. Eliminate all the most likely suspects, then start delving deeper. Char has not got back to us about running a diagnostic on his/her HDD. Memtest86 should also be run to test the RAM. Neither has been done. Possibly, posters get overwhelmed when they ask a question, 10 different solutions all at once are tossed at them, they really don't know which way to turn. The first response in this thread should have been something to this effect: Please post your full system specs. Have you run Memtest86? Do you have the latest drivers for your mobo and vidcard? What type of RAM are you using, and how much/number of sticks? Have you run a diagnostic on your HDD? There should be a "sticky" in this forum, somewhere, that tells people what they should include in their post, when asking for technical help. Posts/questions like: "My games are slow, how can I fix my vidcard, does it need new drivers?" with nothing else, are, well, impossible to answer. Maybe the guy is playing on an old 386SX, who the hell knows? It generally plays out like this: My games are slow, how can I fix my vidcard, does it need new drivers? Make sure you have AGP fast writes turned on in your BIOS. Okay, I finally figured out how to get into my BIOS, but I have no AGP fast writes option. Hmmm, it should be there, what AGP options do you have? None at all, but I do have options for PCI-Express, whatever that is. Yuppers, if the full system specs were posted in the first place, NO ONE would be taking shots in the dark. I don't take "shots in the dark". Some people do, ahem, such as: "Your caps are bad because I had bad caps and had the same problem". Peace.

Time to replace, including pulling mobo, removing/installing new caps, reinstalling mbo, 1/2 hour. New mobo => minimum $100. Time to pull mobo, swap parts from old mobo to new mobo, reinstall mobo and all new drivers and possibly your OS, 45 minutes to an hour. Yuppers, I can see how that wouldn't be worth your time nor money.
