Once with my computer and another time with a friends. It is so easy just to check the capacitors. Easier than doing a format and less time consuming than a low level format. It sounds like he has tried everything but checking the capacitors. Try to keep up, sunshine, the problem only occurs during downloads. Bad caps affect the system all the time, not just during downloads. Being an avid overclocker/modder/enthusiast, I have been overclocking and building my own systems since 1995, my "mommy" didn't just buy my computer for me yesterday. Having successfully removed, then reinstalled new caps on my old mobo(which I sincerely doubt you can say), which still works to this day, I do believe I have a clue as to what I am talking about. Ya know, seein as how you seem to be an expert, I'll just leave this thread and let you solve his "bad caps" problem, good for you, you rock.

What's wrong with your own CD key?

Bad caps make a system unstable all the time, not just when downloading, get off the "bad caps" BS people, I know this for a fact, I have swapped caps on my old mobo, this is not the problem, nor was it ever the problem, be cool if "shots in the dark" were not fired. Char, when you format, do you do a quick format, or the full monty? Have you run chkdsk on your HDD? Have you tried downloading the diagnostic from your HDD manufacturer to check your drive fully? Have you tried writing your HDD to zeroes? Bad caps on your mobo are definitely not your problem, RAM or HDD.

Check your RAM, if you have 2 sticks, pull one, and try to boot. If that doesn'y work, try the other stick. If that doesn't work, see if you can borrow a stick from a friend.

Turn off your print spooler, you don't need it: control panel/administrative tools/services/disable print spooler. You say you're not using Internet Explorer, but I see MDM.exe in your processes list. MDM(machine debug manager) starts with IE, but you say you aren't using IE. That's not good, MDM.exe is also the name of a Trojan. Do a search for the file on your HDD, let us know where it's running from, as in what folder it's in.

XP network install causing severe hair loss
Relic replied to Ron_Jeremy's topic in Everything New Technology
I'm sorry man, but I find it hilarious that "Ron Jeremy's" "HardDrive" isn't big enough, that just busts me up, I'm really sorry, heh heh heh -
This will "future-proof" your system: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?s...CZ%20Technology

I personally would just buy a new HDD.

Full system specs please, as in CPU Motherboard RAM Power supply Hard Drives Videocard Soundcard Ethernet card The full monty, there's no point in us try to fix a problem if we have to guess what type of hardware you have in your system.
-
From 2.2ghz on up, expensive CPU's. Fast, and very good overclocking results from them.
-
First we need to know if you're going with PCI-E or not.
-
Did you try the PC3200 yet?

So, do you want this game, and a few others in the Wing Commander series, which have been made by fans, or don't you? These are all free. Now, did I just waste 15 minutes of my time finding these for you, or are you still around these forums? If I wasn't a fan of the game myself, trust me, I wouldn't have found this for you. http://www.wcnews.com/fanprojects/index.shtml

Relic said he'd tell me about the Privateer 2 mod. Dude, chill out, I do have a life, a wife, and kids, I don't live in these forums, and I do not get paid to help people. Now, when I have the spare time, I will find you the game, which will be later today. Now then, I could just say: "Screw you and your attitude", but I won't. I will however, say: "Grow the hell up!" I'm not your mommy or daddy, and I am not at your beck and call. Remember that.

Is this like an April Fool's Day joke? If not, may I suggest buying a Dell, don't build your own with "busted" parts.

Are you sure the RAM from your old mobo is compatible with your new mobo? Full system specs are needed. Even without that, I'd pull everything but the CPU off my mobo and reseat it, then make sure that every single molex/power connection was plugged in.

No, you should be able to dwnld the drivers and run them right through Windoze, no need to run them off a CD, once they're unzipped, or if they are dwnlded as an .exe file, just run them. If they create a folder(save it to your desktop), open the folder, then run the setup.exe inside the folder.

I tried my vid card in more than one slot and originally tried it in the onboard slot with no video card in the pc. My mobo is Aopen S661GMX-U and is new. Everything else boots up like a normal boot (fans, hdd, drives, lights) but my monitor looks like its in standby. when i unplug the monitor cable while the pc is on, it makes the noise as if it was just turned off normally, both when the vga plug is in onboard or pci slot. the mobo has an 8x agp slot so could that be the problem? im not using the pci card in slot 1, but i tried it there too. I am pretty sure my mobo isnt 'doa' but who knows. Any ideas? Okay, let's start fresh... You got a new mobo, it has onboard video. You tried installing a vidcard(which vidcard? AGP/PCI/PCI-E?) It still doesn't work. Have you tried disabling the onboard video in your BIOS? We need a lot more to go on here.

If your system is overclocked, this can also cause the problem, go back to stock-clocks. If your RAM is getting wonky, this can also cause the problem. I've OC'ed my system and not payed attention to my RAM multiplier, kept getting a no-go on the OC, same error message, finally realized I was trying to run my RAM at somewhere around 300mhz, heh. Lowered the multiplier so that by the time I was @2.75 on my A64 3700+, my RAM was @196mhz, and TADA!, the error went away. This is XP's answer to the BSOD, when it can't figure out what's wrong, hey, your files are corrupt.

I'm sure there is a mod for this game, for free, I may have dwnlded it at one time, I'll have a look around for you tomorrow, but I'm very sure there is a modded free version, the makers of Privateer released the source code for it, and the modders had a field day with it. Excellent game BTW, I loved it, wish my CD's(all 5 of them) hadn't have got trashed in a move. Anyhow, the updated version works with new graphics cards, and is much better graphics wise. Like I said, I'll check for you tomorrow after work.

Post a link to the page you're trying to dwnld from, and what it is you're trying to dwnld, I'll see what you're missing. BTW, doesn't make you stupid, we all have to start somewhere.

Sounds like you have a couple cards fighting for the same IRQ, PITA. > Maybe try uninstalling the Leadtek and SB cards, then rebooting, when they reinstall, maybe they won't get in a fight. Try installing the TV card first, then the SB card. BTW, don't let Windoze install the cards, click "cancel" when it asks, then install them yourself manually, using the "setup.exe" on the CD, or, if the CD will autorun, same thing.
