I cannot use a mouse right-handed anymore, it messes me up, heh heh heh. I have HL2 and FarCry configured to use the keys closest to the arrow keys on my KB, I use my left hand to control the mouse. I suppose I'm a "lefty" when it comes to computers.

I'm hooked on PC's. My number 2 son bought himself an XBox, number 3 son is going to buy himself a PS2. Me, I don't like the XBox, I'm used to a joystick and mouse/keyboard. Yeah, there's a lot of buttons on a game pad, but you also have to hold the game pad, so yur kinda missing the digits needed to push said buttons. TV's are limited to a 60hz refresh rate, and they'll never keep up to CRT monitors, LCD's will never keep up to CRT's. I cannot, for the life of me, justify the cost of an Xbox 360, when I have an ecellent computer sitting on my desk, that does so many other things, aside from playing games. PC's rule, nuff said.

Insert CD1. This is a legit copy of HL, right? If it isn't, find your own way to rip them off, google the w4re5 sites, maybe grab yourself a virus and some pr0n while you're at it.

pc keeps giving blue screen of death and restarting...
Relic replied to save77's topic in Everything New Technology
Great stuff guys! How about telling hijm to reset the CMOS, just pull the battery, which resets the BIOS/CMOS to fail-safe defaults, and going from there? How much RAM do you have installed? RAM is generally the first problem, if you have two or more sticks, pull one, then continue to swap them out, until the problem goes away or re-occurs. Also, try to restart in "safe mode", hold F8 while booting, then choose "safe mode". If you can boot in like that(safe mode), restart your computer, normally, might do the trick. :^) -

If you need additional help knocking the number down, take a look at our free MSCONFIG tutorial at: http://www.schrockinnovations.com/msconfig.php But when it comes to RAM you typically either have it or you don't. I have seen some optimization programs and RAM defraggers out there, but nothing beats having more RAM memory than you need. Installing additional memory is not complicated and RAM prices are lower than ever. We also have a free tutorial on installing your own RAM. Feel free to take a look at it if you would like. You can view it at: http://www.schrockinnovations.com/installram1.php It will show you step by step how to install additional memory. Trust me, its worth the time and money! Dude, you're promoting your site, which is called SPAM. On top of that, your "suggestions" for "fixing" XP startup probs are generic to be kind. In reality, as in "how helpful are they?", they're a freakin joke! Scroll through the list. All items that have a check mark are programs that start when you start Windows. Uncheck all unnecessary startup items. If you are not sure which items to uncheck, your computer manufacturer or a consultant may be able to assist you in making the selection. When you are finished, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. Yeah, well now, that sure as hell narrows it down! I'm sure people are going to donate to your cause because you told them to contact their "computer manufacturer or a consultant", great advice. Man you rock! You suck. PLONK this mofo.

Heh heh heh, two threads, by the same guy, with the same answer, from two different people. Deja-vous all over again.

Tualatin 1.26@133mhz FSB, 9.5 multiplier unlocked, 100mhz FSB 866@8.5 multiplier stock. Specifics: Intel '01 A4 C110A030-0526 QEL8ES RK80530PZ012512 D110F013S 0380 Preferably a VIA chipset, 694X-686B, they OC very very well. I have a matched pair of these, if I can ever score a dualie IWill board, with an AGP slot, I'll be in heaven. MachSpeed has a board I'd like: http://www.machspeed.com/m694tas.htm, but alas, I can't find anyone/a store that sells them. ;( Any help at all would be appreciated. 8)

Lemme know when you find a socket370 board that will support a Tualatin 1.26 with an AGP slot.
-
Just to add a wee bit of nostalgia, currently on: DFI CA-64 TN 512MB RAM Tualatin 1.26ghz(unlocked, actually 866mhz) @1.35 eVGA 6600GT AGP @583/1130 80gig WD Caviar Plays FarCry with everything set to medium, a few options turned up to high. NFSU1 all at high, crowds off, cause that's just BS. FC gets me 28FPS average. NFSU gets 34FPS average. I don't try to play a lot of newer games on this system, it's the kids' system, my new system comes at tax time, I'll post the specs when I get it. In the mean time, this wee old beastie rocks, I'm still lokking for a dualie socket 370 mobo with an AGP slot, I have a matched pair of these unlocked 1.26 Tualatins, I'd love to set them both up on dualie board and see how they perform. BTW, HL2, eyecandy cranked, 1024X768, averages 42FPS. Damn, tax time is gonna be so sweet.

According to the site that driver is for "ALL" ATI cards, so it should be okay for yours too.
-
I'm an nVidia guy, but I do believe these are the latest drivers for your vidcard: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1302
-
Oops, forgot the drivers, get them here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1070 Try the first Hyperion drivers, top of the page.

Everyone starts out as a noob, okay, maybe Gates was a 'born geek", but I don't think anyone else was, heh heh heh. Only way to learn is to ask questions, and none of them are stupid.
-
Okay, generally it's a RAM issue, or it could be the new HDD. Not that there's anything wrong with that HDD, just the configuration. When you installed the HDD, did you update the chipset drivers for your motherboard? Also, it's advisable to flash your motherboard BIOS to the latest available when adding new hardware. I'd start with motherboard chipset drivers, that's the easiest, and work from there. What motherboard are you using?
-
Are you overclocking your system at all? How much RAM do you have? Actually, your system specs would help a lot.

HELP!! DESCENT FREESPACE: THE GREAT WAR ON XP DO NOT DETEC CD!!
Relic replied to juanjo's topic in Games
If you have the original CD, although that doesn't matter as this game is abandonware now, just remove the CD-check. Head over here to gamecopyworld.com, and download the the fix. Enjoy the game. http://gamecopyworld.com/ -
What's sad is that the original poster didna get an answer until a year and a half later. x)

I'm in agreement with both of you, and have said so in response to some of his posts in other threads. Some people just need their IP burned, they are not contributing, they are only promoting themselves. As far as I was always concerned, this was, and is, a help forum, not an advertising board. This guy/gal has got to go. ;(

Uninstall the scanner. Reboot, install the scanner, reboot. If that doesn't work, unplug the scanner, then plug it back in(computer off), then boot up.

Let us know how it turns out, one way or the other, what helps one person, may help many.

Just a heads-up. Next, a "bin" file is a CD image. The software that came with your CD burner should be able to handle a "bin" file, it's the same as an ISO basically. The free software came with your CD burner. Slam a CD in the drive, open the software, burn the bin, you're done.

Have you run your AVP in safe mode? Have you tried booting into "safe mode with networking", and then up[censored] your AVP files? Doesn't matter what you are doing, a virus scan, spyware scan, disk defrag, it should always be done in safe mode. Any virus/adware/spyware/Trojan that starts with Windoze, will be running when you scan if you're not in "safe mode". Hit "F8" when booting up, choose "Safe Mode With Networking", update your AVP files, then scan.

LOL Steam is not concerned because you don't need the cd in the drive to play. Actually your lucky that Steam's VAC has not noticed you using the no cd and ban your account which could happen if you go online to play (just fyi) also I only ever needed to enter the key the very first time I installed HL2. I downloaded the steam client at work and just run it, it installs all the files I need to play, enter my account info (no cd serial number req'd) and away I go I can play. you can install on more then one computer however your Steam account can only be run from one computer at a time. In other words you cannot have multiple log in's to Steam. So I cannot play at work if my steam account is active at home for example. S I don't play online, so no probs for me. As for the serial, I typed it in when I installed on this system, haven't done it since.

I'm in Ontario, Canada, I have no DVD, and the HL2 I have comes on 5 CD's. There's a diff between the Euro and North American versions. Could be that newer versions here are DVD now, but mine definitely isn't.

A guy I work with gave me his HL2 CD's, I play all the time, I just use his original account at Steam, not a problem. All I did was change his old password to something I could remember. I also use a NOCD exe, I refuse to keep the CD in the drive, so Steam obviously isn't all that concerned, because only one account exists for each CD key, only 1 copy of the game(per CD key) can be played at any given time.
