    grim fandango problem :/

new to these forums, by the way, so hi but i digress. so here's the story. my old computer, which ran xp and had a new hard drive in it, and really wasn't old per se, ran grim fandango perfectly fine. after i finished it, i uninstalled it. when i tried to reinstall it on the same computer, i got a message stating that "c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications. chose 'close' to terminate the application," either slecetion just causes the window to close out. the funny thing is, this particular system file does not exist on that computer. i am now getting the same message and problem with my new computer. i've tried lucas arts support system, and found it to be lagging, and useless. three emails after the fact, i got very vague instructions that solved nothing. windows xp compatibility wizard was also unable to help. any suggestions?

    fallout tactics problem

fallout tactics installs fine on my computer (xp, well above requirements) but when i try and play the game, when i start it, the screen just goes black. when i ctrl+alt+del i see an error message stating "C:\dev\phoenix\display\directx7\dd7_display.cpp9715): **fatal error**: Could not create primary and back surfaces." this is then followed by an error message stating that the application abnormally quit. what confuses me about the directx7 part of the message, is that i have directx9 installed furthermore, the directory listed doesn't exist in any form on my computer. any input? thanks.

    ATI or NVIDIA

i have the ati radeon x300 series model, and i;ve also had an nVidea in my old computer. the nvidea never gave me any grief, and was quite decent. i'm having some gried with my ati now, but it's just with running an old game. other than that, this card has been incredible in terms of quality, and the video out has proven useful more than once.

    grim fandango, again

i got it installed no problem, but now it's just giving me more grief. randomly, the sound will cut out, and the game will not allow me to move or interact with anything, but i can still access the menu. this happens particularly when i save, causing me to have to restart the game. also, it likes to randomly minimize itself to the start bar. this is sometimes followed by the sound issues previously listed. any thoughts?
