  1. Have this scenario. In winxp the the floppy drive and DVD drive installed in system. BUT! When a DVD/CD is placed into the drive it will read but displays the disk as having no contents. The CD/DVD label does not change to the disks label. When trying to access a floppy disk, XP wants to format the disk. Plug floppy disk and DVD drive into another computer and they work. With this system we can boot up on a floppy disk or bootable CD/DVD. The problem is obvious windows bases. Probably related to something in the registry. What I need to know is why and where? How to do I fix it? As I type this, I am half way through the process of installing a fresh copy of WinXP onto another HD but in the same system. I expect the floppy drive and CD/DVD will operate perfectly. The fact is it booted fine from the XP CD. I tested the floppy drive by booted from a ghost bootdisk. Problem is, we do not wish to reload the origonal system due to programs that we do not have install disks for. The system would have to be sent away to have these ptograms reinstalled which we wish to avoid. Searched through the forums and haven't found anything remotelly similar to this problem. If I missed something please point me in the right direction. If someone has a solution, suggestion, fire away
  2. Yeah i did try this - made no difference at all. I was hopeing someone might have had a quick fix. I didn't want to do it but I have resorted to reloading the OS. Thanks anyway.
  3. Should also have said, just because the install on new hard drive worked doesn't mean the the problem is resolved. If it comes down to it, I may need to reload. As I mentioned earlier I wish to avoid this if at all possible.
  4. As I expected - With the new install of windows the devices funtions perfectly. Floppy drive reads/writes. DVD-Writer reads/writes.
