Need help with migration also. I am finalizing my plans to migrate from an Intel Board to AMD64 processor, with all new everything, including drives. Ideally, I would like to clone the entire OS to the new drive, to save work. First time I tried to clone the Intel based drive to the new machine using Maxtor Clone from MaxBlast 4, it died with an unknown error. Next time, I tried to clone from the Intel machine drive to the AMD64 machine using Norton Ghost. After the clone, I could not boot into the OS. I got stuck at the screen that gives you options for Boot in Safe Mode Boot in Save Mode with networking Boot Windows Normally. (ect...) No matter what selection I made, I kept coming back to that same screen. Am I on the right track if I do the following: 1. To preserve the data on my current machine, clone XP to a new drive on the Intel Processor. 2. Set up the cloned drive as the primary drive. 3. Go into add/remove programs and remove all drivers for sound cards, intel processors, network and video. 4. Move the Intel "cleansed drive" to the AMD machine, and clone that drive to the new machine. 5. If I get a successful boot, then add drivers for Mobo, video, USB, ect. BTW, I am not a glutton for punishment. I just have some software that I want to keep in place, that I don't have the installation disks for, like printers and scanners, plus I want to keep all of my settings for email and browsing passwords in place, because I don't remember all the passwords and user ids I put in place for various sites. Am I missing something, or am I on the right track?

OK. I got rid of grub to boot for now. I used the repair console on Windoze to overwrite the MBR and to boot straight into it. 2 simple commands in the repair mode: fixmbr fixboot Now, I want to still access the Linux partition before I upgrade to Fedora 6. The previous grub config statement was as follows: default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd1,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz #hiddenmenu title Windows XP rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1 title Fedora Core (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4) root (hd1,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.img How do I now connect the dots so that the Windoze boot.ini gives me the opportunity to boot to Fedora 4, before I go through the process of upgrading to FC6 after I migrate to the new machine?

It is set for cable select, but the cables are designated "Primary" and "Slave"

I forgot to include that i want to add W2000 to this new machine, making it a tri=boot. XP and W2000 are going on the first drive, and a NTFS partition and Fedora5 are going on the second, cable selected drive. Your help is appreciated. raddad51x@hotmail.com

I need help also. I am migrating machines, from an older Intel to an AMD 64 mobo and 2 new drives. I have XP loaded on the primary drive, and Fedora 4 on the slave. I want Windows to control the boot sequence, not grub. The purpose is so that I can update to FC5. Q1. How do I remove grub loader, and get MSFT to load the boot sequence. Q2. My grub.config is as follows: # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You do not have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /, eg. # root (hd1,1) # kernel /boot/vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hdb2 # initrd /boot/initrd-version.img #boot=/dev/hda default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd1,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz #hiddenmenu title Windows XP rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1 title Fedora Core (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4) root (hd1,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.img How do I translate this into the boot.ini once I have successfully replaced the boot loader. raddad51x

I am running XP home edition, and for some reason, the IP address suddenly gets dropped. Address winds up being 0.0.0.0>0.0.0.0 on cable modem. When this happens, I can ping 127.0.0.1, but nothing else. Called the cable company, and they said nothing was wrong. Could this be some sort of malware no one knows about yet? Or Is XP having a senior moment?? It is just frustrating to have this happen and having to reboot to go 3 web pages, bookmark the page where is stalls, reboot and go to the bookmark. and reboot and . . . Suggestions are welcomed. Skippie: If you are using Ghost, reverse the drives. Make the c: drive the d: drive and switch the jumpers accordingly, making the master the slave and the slave the master. Boot into Ghost, and follow the links for both formating the TARGET DRIVE (in the voice of Elmer Fudd--very carefully or bye bye data on the SOURCE drive) and drive copying. Godspeed, my good fellow. raddad51x@hotmail.com italic textitalic textitalic textitalic text
