it just doesn't save!!!!

I read how experts here posted on how to mkae Resident Evil 2 compatible with Windows 95, i did everything, and yet i still can't save!!!!! i changed the shortcut and the actual ".exe"s of "LeonU" and "ClaireU" it doesnt work can some one give me a more detailed steps on how to make it work plz plz plz!!! thx in advance btw, i run XP under Service Pack 2
