  1. thanks guys - uninstalling and then rebooting sorted it out!
  2. isn't it dangerous to uninstall my CD drive? After I reboot, do I have to install it again or will it be recognised? Im worried about what effect this could have.
  3. yes I have recently updated to S2 cos of all these problems getting Direct X 9.0c. I'm trying to burn (write) CDs, which I've always been able to do.
  4. Yeh the "enable recording on this device" box was already ticked. Thanks for your help...but where is Device Manager? (and how do I reboot? is that just restarting?) haha :s
  5. how do I remove the drive through device manager and reboot?
  6. Hello I use Windows XP, and I've always been able to burn CDs as it is installed into the CD drive. However, now whenever I use Windows Media Player 10 to burn CDs, it says "No CD or DVD burner has been detected". This is odd as the computer still plays CDs and CDroms, but it just doesn't recognise that it can burn CDs. I have tried Microsoft's troubleshoot help which directed me to run "regedit", but nothing was wrong there and it hasn't helped. I was just wondering if anyone could help me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks (apologies if this should be in the Software forum - i wasn't sure).
  7. Hello I realise that there have been many threads on this before, which I have been reading through! (http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread28821-1.html) (http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread32112-1.html ) http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread28837-1.html etc! so this must be annoying. However I still can't get DirectX to install :s At first I had the cabinet problem (link 1 there), then I solved it ( i think ) with the Cryptographic Services solution posted by Wilhelmus. Now when i go to the microsoft website to d/l & install DirectX 9.0c i get a new error msg come up: Quote: The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. This software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator. I don't have a clue what to do now. Thanks ps I use Firefox not IE if that makes a difference! Is there any way of getting SP2 using Firefox? I heard that installs directx for you.
