Hi, Im having some troubles with my computer again and i cant find a way to fix it. When i start the computer up, it goes onto the screen where it gives you the option of starting in safe mode, last known good configuration, normally etc.. and when i try selecting one, it will go on to the windows xp loading screen, and then it will just restart and go through all of that again. When it goes into the windows xp screen, the hard drive sounds as if the head is having difficulty reading a sector. The problems been happening since last Thursday, and i havent been able to solve it yet, is there anything you can suggest? If the only choice is to reformat it, is there any way that i can back the data up that is on my hard drive? Because i havent backed up since the last reformat. Cheers, Sam.

Hi everyone, just got a decent amount of money for christmas and i thought i would use it to upgrade my computer, I already know that i will be getting a 200gb hard drive, 2gb more RAM. The problem is that i would also like to buy a new processor, but my motherboard is not exactly that good, but i do not want to have to upgrade it, it says that it has a socket 462 processor socket, so i was wondering what is the best processor i can buy for this type? it is currently running an AMD athlon XP 2600+ (1.92 ghz if thats relevant). The other problem is that i also have about £100 pound to spend on a graphics card and i was wonderin what is the best one to buy for this money, im currently running a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 128 mb. ok thanks. But i cant seem to find anywhere that i can still buy an AMD athlon xp card, so any ideas where i can get one? also will i notice the difference between my old graphics card and the one that you have suggested?

When i signed into msn, i spoke to somebody and it came up with something that included a link...so naturally i clicked the link and it has now put some sort of a virus onto my computer, which is using my account and sending the same link i recieved to all of my contacts..and then after it sends them the link i can not open up a conversation with them unless i sign out and back in again..and when i tried to go into system restore to go back a day..the virus has deleted all my restore points, and also when i try to go into windows firewall (which it disabled) and my norton firewall and all my virus software, it just exits them off straight away before i can do anything, so i went into run then went to msconfig, went into startup and that also closed off. but then i opened it up and very quickly went into startup then clicked disable all, and then apply, and then i restarted my computer..after that my computer was fine and i could go into my firewall etc..but then when i went back into msconfig to enable everything again..because i was unsure about what i had disabled.. it started doing it again...has anyone ever encountered this before? Help will be much appreciated..and i would much prefer to avoid having to format my computer.

when i start up any programs or open any documents, my task bar does not show up anything to say that file is open, so to switch between files i am having to use alt+tab which is quite annoying, i think that the problem may be because of an updated driver for my graphics card i got recently, -nvidia geforce4 mx440, and as far as i am aware i have the latest driver. Can anyone suggest any thing that may help?? Cheers Sam

Can anyone tell me if i can get a card for inside my computer, that gives my computer a bluetooth connection, like seen on many modern computers now, i want the bluetooth connection so that i can connect my phone to it, and a bluetooth mouse. if anyone knows whether i can get one, can u please tell me where they can be bought from. and also what site do people find cheapest for buying computer goods??? as many people on these forums, i am having the trouble where if i try to install 9.0c it tells me it is installed but it is not, i have tried most of the solutions on here, except from reinstalling sp2, because everytime i run automatic updates, an update downloads that causes my computer to keep restarting, can anyone help please and let me know if theres another way of downloading sp2.

just for a little more info about the problem, when i try to launch sims 2 it says failed to initialise direct 3d, please make sure direct x9.0c has been installed on this system.

ive just tried both those methods but still no luck, any other suggestions ????

please reply!!! ive just spent 50 quid on nfsunderground 2 and sims 2 and they both need 9.0c so i need help so i can play them!!
