  1. I like to use the old Norton diskedit program. Unfortunately it only recognizes the 1st gigabyte on my 2 gigabyte hard drive. I'm using NT 4.0 SP6a on a stand-alone computer. I don't know if this is a problem with the command interpreter. I've used both cmd.exe and NT's command.com. Diskedit reads the entire disk when I boot from a floppy with 6.21 DOS, so the size of the disk clearly isn't the problem. I've tried several different versions of Norton diskedit, but the problem keeps happening. I have searched the net for an explanation but can't find one. Another diskedit program, by James R. Webster, designed for Windows, has the same flaw. Unfortunately his email address is no longer valid.
  2. I'm posting this here, rather than "software", because the problem clearly requires a registry tweak. After I install Nero's CD Burner software, I can't export my entire registry. The HKEY_USERS will now only export .DEFAULT and not the S-1-2-34567890xxxxx etc key. After much trouble shooting, I narrowed it down to the following: -The registry now can't export any key name longer than 26 characters. -The problem is definitely due to something now in the software hive, possibly the Classes section. (Switching back to a good System hive made no difference. Switching Software hives did.) -DLL hell is not a factor, although the program does update several DLLs and logagent.exe -The problem started after installing the programming but before rebooting (which in any case isn't necessary). I'm running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP6a and Nero's OEM Suite 6.3.1.6. Thanks to any and all who know the answer.
  3. Maybe I should have posted this in software. An update: I narrowed the problem down to the following key: HKLM\Software\Classes\DirectShow\MediaObjects\Categories Deleting "Categories" made all the difference. My registry now exports everything properly. What I don't understand is why this prevented my registry from exporting any user key longer than 26 characters. Any ideas?
