Hi Cak7200. go to this link and you will find a solution to the problem. You aren't the only one to have this problem. Good luck http://www.ntcompatible.com/HELP_Laptop_recovery_t33660.html

Bajpai, I hope you have great spam filters. The spiders are going to love the e-mail addresses you put in your signature.

I would just use the adapter and run the keyboard that way. As for the memory a Dell tech told me awhile back that you had to have the same amount of memory in each slot to run the system properly.

Check and see if you have a high setting on your cookies. Go to tools> internet options> then click on the privacy tab. If you have it set to high NT willn't display, the samething will happen to other sites also.

Sorry to hear Trep, I take it Linksys customer service hasn't gotten any better in the past 2 years since I bought mine. With my Linksys I finally tossed it into an box of spare computer parts and bought Netgear. I'm at the limit of what I know you can do with routers. Hopefully someone else will see this thread and comment on it. If not and if your router is new enough maybe you could return it and get a different one or if you can afford to, just go out and buy a different brand. Good luck with the problem, sorry my ideas didn't work. Cormac

Hi Trep, I would say it is the router that is causing all your problems. That exact same router used to dump my connections all the time. Even when I had the correct port forwarding done. First try and update the routers firmware at http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite...FVisitorWrapper. Also you can find out which ports AIM uses at this addy http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers go into your router and port forward the numbers you find at IANA. Hopefully this will fix the problem for you. Others here may also have suggestions for you. Good Luck

What about going into the services section and changing how it is run. Instead of automatic, change it to manual. You can go into control panel, then click on performance and maintenance, then click on admin tools and then click on services. Scroll down to help and support and then right click on it, then click on properties and then on the general tab you will see startup type. Change the type to manual and then click apply. Then it will only pop up when you actually click on help to use it.

mctonale, one other thing I just noticed about your first post. It mentions that AVG Free said the posting was clean. That to me just points out that AVG is not a good program to have to use for checking for viruses. Clearly you or someone you know were infected by the Sober Virus and it should've have been picked up. With my wife's e-mail when she started getting those messages F-Secure picked up and deleted all the attachements before it allowed the rest of the e-mail through. American Zombie posted a AVP site that tested 58 programs and AVG came in 25th on that list. Here is the link to that site. http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=69&mnu=69

Hi Christian, I agree with Sampson on using Xp-Antispy, it is a sweet little program for blocking that rather annoying Windows Messenger and it's pop-ups. Plus windows messenger just leaves one more hole in your security to be exploited You can get it here at Major Geeks. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2062

The Sobol virus also sends out one from the "FBI" and also one from "mailsrvcs.net"

If you bought the ram from Dell ship it back to them. If you bought it at a store I would take it back and exchange it for the right ones.

Hi Christian, when I used to use msn messenger on this comp it never popped up a passport prompt. I wonder if it could be related to Windows Messenger instead?? I'm not positive but one of the others might know for certain

The Driver Detective says your display drivers are bad. Are you having any problems with them? If yes then you can go to http://www.sis.com/ and get the proper driver(s) You can go here for your Via drivers http://www.via.com.tw/en/index.jsp -
Sorry dude, your SOL for help in hacking here and no hacking site will help you either. If you really want to get them back then go to the customer service people at MySpace and ask them to help you.

Like Sampson said please go to this address and download Hijack this. Then post your Hijack this log in this thread for all of us to see. It will help us help you faster. When you install this program DON'T install it to your desktop pick a folder to install it to. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155

I am not sure whether or not you need Win XP to run Windows Media Player 10. On my system I have Win XP SP2 and the Windows Media Player is version 10.0.0.3802.

Hi bchilly, AVG is an ok program but it only nails real viruses about 50% of the time according to the AVP test sites. To borrow from Relic here, go to: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and scan your system with "Housecall", a free online AVP scan. Just remember the old saying when it comes to free programs, you get what you pay for. You would be better off buying a well known program. Good luck

Go to this address and try their virus scanner. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner. Then if that shows up clean go to this address and use their malware scanner and see what it shows. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/ If both of those come back clean, I am not sure what to try next. One of the others on here can help you after you try those 2 things

MSN stupid virus---please help or else i will have to reformat.

Go to this addy and run the online scan and see what it shows, you should be able to remove the virus then. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner One suggestion though, you should not run two firewalls at the sametime. It is bound to cause you more problems then it will help. The same rule applies with anti-virus software, never run 2 at the sametime
