    PROBLEMS AFTER RUNNING MSCONFIG

After I posted my last reply, I was able to compare my services with the win xp default settings and discovered some vital services were stopped. However, the 'enable all' button is greyed out. What should I do?

    PROBLEMS AFTER RUNNING MSCONFIG

That was a useful input from you, American Zombie. At the risk of sounding naive, how do I go about accessing my services to compare it with the WinXP default settings guide? Please could you, or anyone, go a bit further and instruct me on the procedure for doing this, as well as for restoring windows XP default settings and/or re-nabling the disabled services.I think the solution to my problems may well lie there. Thank you.
  3. 1.On the last occasion that I used misconfig, I needed to reboot my computer at some stage and continue working with the system in a diagnostic state, with no programs running, so I clicked to check the dialog box that appears before the windows configuration utility to stop it from coming up and from launching the utility after reboot. Thereafter, I checked the normal start up box so that the computer could load my normal start up programs, but that was never to be, except, fortunately, for three essential programs, namely, ccapps, zone Labs Client and matcli.exe. My start up manager, winpatrol stopped working, in the sense of no longer being able to control programs as configured. When I tried to install a different one, I got the error message ''programs not pre-set.'' It wouldn't install. In the result, I have to start programs manually now, as they won't load with windows anymore, even when when I configure them to load at start, either from within the applications or using a start up manager. I've run msconfig to make sure every desired start up program is also checked there, and they are. However, I also noticed that the windows configuration utility invariably comes up now with the selective start up box checked. Does this mean that my computer now runs permanently on the selective start up mode? What is the root cause of the problem? What is the solution? will a repair of windows cure the defect? If so, how should I proceed to do that without affecting the functionality of installed programs? Since the above event happened, I've also noticed that When I'm trying to install new software, I sometimes get the following error messages: (a)''error. Could not write value 'xxxxxxxxx' to key\Software\Microdoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel'' OR (b)''Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of the assembly ''microsoft.windows.Networking. DXmrtp, type=''win332'', version=*5.2.2.1,'' PublickeyToken=*6595b64144ccf1df,'' processor architecture=*X86'', please refer to help and support for more info. HRESULT oX80070005 OR ©Error:- 1603 Fatal error during installation consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or MSDN for info 2. The following problem was in existence before the problems described above: When I try to log into some websites, I sometimes get the following error message: ''Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified /asp_bin/newuser.asp, line 188'' What should I do?
