    Hi i am using a Toshiba a60 laptop with mandriva linux installed it works fine except i have no sound, i have done what the other posting said but this still hasnt worked. the sound card is Vendor: ‎ATI Description: ‎IXP150/200 AC'97 Audio Controller Media class: ‎MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO Connection Bus: ‎PCI Bus PCI #: ‎0 PCI device #: ‎20 PCI function #: ‎5 Vendor ID: ‎4098 Device ID: ‎17217 Sub vendor ID: ‎4473 Sub device ID: ‎65296 Driver Module: ‎snd-atiixp but this doesnt work i am thinking a conflict because when ' starting up the speakers 'pop' when it initiates the driver but when in linux nothing is working. here is my modprobe.conf file # This file is autogenerated from /etc/modules.conf using generate-modprobe.conf command alias eth0 8139too alias sound-slot-0 snd-atiixp #remove snd-atiixp /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-atiixp install snd-atiixp /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-atiixp && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; } install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe ohci-hcd; /sbin/modprobe ehci-hcd; /bin/true alias eth1 eth1394 alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394 alias snd-card-0 snd-atiixp Please help.     Hi again i found that it is working(kind ov) but its very very very very quite and distorts when bass is played, ive checked the volume levels but his doesnt seem to help
