    Fallout 1 & XP

Hello! Recently I install Fallout 1 under my XP. At last. Everything works good... except one feature. Every time, when picture goes to light up or fade away (loading screen, healing, special quests etc.) it happens way too SLOW. This speed can vary from "too slow" to "almost frozen", but always is... except first run. After short research, I understand why it is: .cfg file. While it is empty, everything all right. One run, and you receive slowness. And it is even not full .cfg. It seems, only two parts of it: [sound] and [system]. If I delete it, everything work... but game restores it. But _no_ manipulations with this parts makes me anything good - it slows. Even full deletion of any of this parts don't help - only both of them. I have Radeon 1600 series and SB128. All latest drivers installed (but for SB128 it is rather old drivers Can anything of it be cause of freezing?

    Fallout 1 & XP

Update: It was hardware problem somehow. %) Upgraded: Motherboard - Epox nForce2->MSI nForce3 Processor - Athlon 2000+ XP ->Athlon x64 3000+ All other hardware is the same. I even not have to change motherboard drivers - old was nForce2/3, as it appears. %) Problem disappears completely. Now there is no "lightning speed" fading and no delays - old good "2-3 seconds for fade away". Very strange. %)

Resident Evil 1 problems - need help!

Yes, I agree with pskarty709. You need to select something card. If you are lucky, game will work. If not - try next card. I definitely was able to start game on nVidia card, but I don't remember, what card I used for it.

Addition: I tested tweaks. Veery strange results. %) 1. It won't work. I have version 1.2, but it says "You need 1.2 US". I assume, I have UK version. 2. I searched and found only "partially official" patch 1.2 (It still have problems with delays. There is also unoficial 1.3, but it is incopatible with saves, and not removes delays too). Yes, it works with my version, and tweaks starts to work... 3.It works mostly for Fallout 2. %| Only "working" mode is DX9 - it is completely removes any delays with fading. Unfortunately, it destroys movies too. So - oops. Another ideas?

    Fallout 1 & XP

Thank you, I will test it. Another notice, if it can helps: very first time after each system reboot I have "lightning fast" light-up/fade-away. Screen simply have sudden "blink" on such opperations as healing or making antidote, and that's all. But if I close game and starts another (no matter, five minutes or three hours later), fade out will be much slower... or not so much. Random. And rate of fading remains the same in one game session. It seems as some sort of memory leak, but I never encounters leaks, that appears between games, but have no effect in game. %)

    Did you try Compatibility?

    Fallout 1 & XP

Addition: I am wrong. It is completely random (as it seems) slowness. Yesterday I tested Fallout with different soundcard and different cfgs. Nothing. One time it is no freeze, another - almost stop. With identical cfg. I don't know.

Dark Orion, MtG don't work with resolution greater then 1024x768. Use my fix or change screen resolution manually.

Problem with Resident Evil 2 on Windows Xp

g3n, if you not see your card in list, it's not mean, that you cannot use your card. Try to experiment with different cards, starts with TNT. kouryukagami, than it _was_ joystick! AFAIR, this setting can be achieved more simply through setup menu.

Overthere42, stop! I re-read your post, and it seems, I understand your problem wrong. I think, it was video problem with coin animation... No? Ok, please, say again, what program freezes, and what you do? And did you try my ACT fix? It seems have no relation to your problem, but who knows?

Old news. But 1.32 included, yes.

    Magic the Gathering on XP

Overthere42, I ask again: did you try to play this avis separately? As I think, program uses file magvid.dll (do you have it in the Magic directory?), that in turn uses system file avifil32.dll from windows/system32 directory, and this is standard Windows library for AVI. So there is chain: 1. Avi files itself. Check it. Check, if it exists at all and if it can be played by, say, Windows Media Player. It must. 2. File magvid.dll. It must be. 3. File avifil32.dll in the Windows/System32. It must be too. I think, this is double check from p.1, but I cannot be sure. If all above is right... Then I don't know. %) Now.

Can this be joystick? Usually "runs in circles" error connect with this. Disable it in the devices?

Overthere42 You are lucky. Your approach to kill processes have strong chance to succeded, but not guaranteed. Actually, Air Elemental Bug produced by somewhat process, interfere with MtG. But determine will it be "user" process or "service" virtually impossible. So there is only one way, that always give you result: killing one by one every user programs and every non-microsoft process until success. About coins animation - it's simple AVI-file. (Two files - DuelArt/Cointoss_Heads.avi and Cointoss_Tails.avi to be accurate). Maybe there is something with this files or it's decoder in the your system? Can it be played separately? lucksong Did you try to change resolution down to 1024x768? I strongly recommend to download Application Compatibility Toolkit (from Microsoft, it's free), then take my "ACT patch" from Nils Devine page - it's kills almost every bug, remains after patch 1.32. Air Elemental bug remains, though. I haven't it, so I can't try to eliminate it. %)

    Magic The Gathering Problem

I think, you simply make your deck and save it on disk with some informational name. Not work for you?

    Magic the Gathering on XP

Faceltine, unfortunately, all enabled cards ends with patch 1.32. You can _see_ several of others (all listed in legacy.csv, actually) in the Deck Builder if you manually replace card code in text deck file with code, listed in legacy. But all this "additional" cards is invalid for game - your "new" deck simply don't appears in it. grepWhat's the problem? Simply change ManaLink protocol (with right click on it's icon) to TCP/IP. And, of course, you need it on both machines.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen (1) error?

For Win98 there is only choice - slow down game on _every_ movie, except transitions. Or it will keep freezing. My choice is CPUKiller. (It prevents you from "normal" movies, though. Nevermind, it can be freely played from menu.)

    Downloading

    Service-Options-Security-Internet-Another. Second choice in list.

Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate on XP - help?

At last I try Chaos Gate on XP (before I has Win98). And I want "cultist bug". Where are you?! Nothing. At all. I try to make yourself killed several moves, uses different map modes - nothing. I was suspect something more exciting. ;( But it all was 640x480 mode! Ha! It must be resolution... Nothing. Another "nothing" - program simply don't want to write into registry. Mmm? Ah! I forget Win98 compatibility mode!! Yes!!! In the compatibility mode there is possible to write into registry... and I have my bug!!! Hurray!!! )) Hmmm... Remove compatibility mode. Options stays from my previous settings (and I can simply change it from registry , and bug disappears again! ;( Did anyone really need this compatibility mode? )))

Chaos Overlords - Can't find CD

Try another CD-drive. Many of old games understand only first logical CD-ROM, so any other not suite. Some other games don't tolerate many drives (Space Empires: Starfury, for example, assumes, that CD-rom letter cannot be more than H). Try to experiment with this.

    Magic crashed on XP

Never seen that bug (applied to MtG). Maybe solution in the hardware? If there was _nothing_ before computer shuts down, I'll suggest BIOS->shutdown temperature (that means, it's too hot in your area or simply cooler fault). Did your machine have temperatures displayed on display when it's booting? Press pause key and look on them. Any temperature higher than 50C means almost definitely cooler fault, and if so, problem is in that for sure. P.S. BTW, if you encounter "invisible text" (when card buying, for example, must be string "Do you want buy this card for XXX? (Y/N)". If you see that, you haven't this problem), than go to Nils Devine page (mentioned in the another forum - solution is there.

how to install Xcom - ufo defense on Windows XP ?

Did you already slow down tactical speed? All speed settings (along with "Save game" button locate under big "?" button in tactical mode. I personally easy use even maximum 5 speed scrolling, but try slower settings. BTW, buttons "next/previous guy" along with flashing alien numbers (click on it give you more handy centering than map.
