so very avoidable

Hi, I've just installed final fantasy vii on my pc and everything went smoothly until i loaded up the game and the 'new game...continue' screen comes up, i choose 'new game' and then the screen just goes black, nothing happens at all. Any suggestions on what the problem is?

I've installed that and still the same happens, just a black screen after i click 'new game'
