Is it possible that the laptop is trying to log onto the workplace server?

I was given a new laptop for work - Compaq 6110NX. We are wireless at work. I take it home to use on my wireless system and it connects with no problem to the internet. However, when I open an application such as Word, Excel, Photoshop, those programs freeze. I turn the wireless off and the programs run. The Office applications were downloaded from our server, but are resident on my harddrive. Photoshop and other programs were loaded on the computer by CD. The wireless network at my home worked fine with my old laptop from work and works fine with my personal laptop. No one in the tech department can help. I might add, two other people are experiecing the same problem. Wirless and applications run fine at work with no problems. Unfortunately, I have to do work at home as well with this laptop and sometimes I need internet access while running applicaitons.
